just a thought that would make things more interesting.. have more abilities per weapon and let the player pick what he wants. only 5 abilities per weapon ain’t much considering you pick your fav weapon and then play with it for the rest OF YOUR LIFE so yeah.. things can get repetitive.. at least with more abilities you could spice things up a bit.

Well most classes get an In-Combat weapon swap – giving you a total of 10 abilities actually. You can pick and choose what utilities or weapons to use based on your playstyle, group play, encounter, etc.

The Engineer has weapon kits, and the Elementalist have the ability to change schools of magic – so that allows for more abilities.

So at any given time any class has access to 10+ weapon abilities that shouldn’t be used as ‘burn cooldowns’ but rather situation-ally tactful. If you try that out – you should find that we have a perfect amount of abilities in the game

I cant believe i would say this, but diablo 3’s skill system could fit into gw2’s gameplay pretty well….

Not that i have any problem with the current system..

the in-game swap is something i am aware of so yes, you get 10 weapon abilities plus the healing one, 2-3(think it was 2) skill points depending on race/class and one elite skill slot that depends on race/class, so in theory we got about 15 abilities.

all that is true, BUT its not personal enough.. traits are something personal because you put points as you see fit instead of going to the web and look for the best build (something that will change sooner or later or already has been, but you get the point)

the class abilities, you won’t see THAT many people walking around with the same abilities which i find cool. you walk around, seeing another warrior with more buffs than you so you know he is using a different skill set and he seems to be doing pretty well and you wonder if his skill set is better than yours.

weapon skills however? every 2h sword warrior will have the same abilities.. doing the same thing. its… stale.

So in otherwords more weapon skills so you can make a unique fighting build thats your style, like from guildwars, instead of every class having the same skills for every weapon.

Ive always wondered why they didn’t do this.

They definitely need to add more active skills and traits that have a more drastic impact on the way each potential build plays compared to other builds of the same class. Certain builds have way too much emphasis on passive traits and signets, and some of those builds can be quite powerful — players shouldn’t have to choose between having a more powerful character and having a more fun, dynamic combat experience.

what is important to note is, while we ask for the above we are not saying that as a result of not having this thing the game will suck or be worse, but its just a welcomed improvement.

Never even crossed my mind but if I’m understanding your correctly, I really like the idea.

Basically you’re saying that you get more than 5 skills per weapon but you have to choose which 5 that you would use?

Only problem I could see is balancing… perhaps each ability slot would have an alternative ability.

I want this too. I’ve found that I often just end up liking the playstyle of one or two weapons on some professions, and within the five skills on those weapons I may not like 1 or 2 abilities which I would like to trade for something else. The 6-10 skills often have a longer cooldown, are more situational and don’t enter my usual skill chain, which leaves me with very little variety in normal combat, it’s a little too simplified.

The one class I found to be very versatile with weapon skills was the Engineer with it’s ability to instantly change back and forth between different weapon sets, this was technical and fun. I see potential in the Elementalist, have not played it enough yet to judge, but there we have a cooldown for going back to a previous attunement, which kind of limits the constant changing of skills.

It’s always been my view that this is pretty much inevitable. As they grow the game, they’re going to add more skills, and those skills have to go somewhere. They’re not going to completely ignore half of the skill bar—and the half that gets most stale for players to boot.

it seems we have reached a consensus regarding the weapon skill bar.. haven’t expected such an agreement but i guess its something many have noticed.

be it more skills to pick or a different idea, at least we agree that in the future something will have to happen with that..

I have to agree with this one… I’m not fond of one of my greatsword skills, and I wish I could replace it with something else. Unfortunately, there are no other skills offered for a Greatsword.

With how many skills and possible builds GW1 had, I’m surprised that they didn’t expand on it in this game. It was one of the mokittenn parts. You really got to customize your build even more.
