new player here.

made the account, i randomly selected a server, without to much thinking. you know, i dont know any other mmorpg which lock your whole account to one server.

i played some time, and i like it. (reached level 5 i think)
i’m member of a comunity of various gamers, so i look if we had a gw2 guild. (dint interested me before). we had. so i pm one of the officers, and asked for an invite ingame.
he invited me, but they are on another server, not the one i randomly chose to.
no issue, i could make a char on their server right ? NOPE.
hey, at least i can transfer i presume. i take a look at the prices, holy cows. i could purchase another gw2 with that kind of money.
yeh, i read about guesting, but when the guild is doing wvw, i want to be there to for example.
ok, will make a support ticket, maybe someone can help me.
i play a bit more (level 21 now), and this morning i get an answer.

we want to help you with that, if you delete the characters you have, you will be able to select a new home server. what again ? at the first time i read, i said to myself they can be serious, at least if i knew this when i was level 5 not 21.

but still, after some thinking i could consider this one, but for now, i log out from game.

tldr : please allow one time free transfer per account.
or at least advertise this kind of hidden feature. like you could delete your char to select a new server. is a big difference to do it at level 5 vs level 21.

I don’t want to sound too elitist, but 21 is easy to get to. If I only had one character of level 21 and my choices were reroll or pay up…I’d reroll.

I agree with OP. Every new account should be given one server transfer ( aka one freebie) everyone else got a lot of time to “figure out” where they wanted to end up. But given the current circumstance, my advice is to do what Zorby said, re-roll. I know it seems like it takes a long time to get to 21 but when you reroll you will get there a lot faster, trust me. Piece of advice, do all the starting area map completion zones first ( just doing three fully should get you to 30-50… such a wide space because I did do some WvW in there)

Yeah 21 is VERY easy, and well 2nd and 3rd time obviously even faster than the first time, as you know what to do. Also anything you put in your bank and colletibles (yes that means you can keep pretty much all your items that not soulbound, and all your money too, by putting it into your bank. All achievements are kept as well as those are account wise too

which exactly was the rash decision about it ?
selecting a server at the beginning ? how if i would have chose a server on which i was alone because of low pop ? should i would have been punished for that aswell ? (because i had bad experience with ques in the past in other mmos i almost chose a low population server. thanks god i chosed a high one.).

and no, i do not delete characters i put time/effort in them.
it took me about 1 h to create and make my character. i will continue to play with it.
if i could have start another character on the same account on another server, i would have done that. but i canot.
punish and blame more people for the beginer mistakes they make in a fairly different mmo vs the crowd ones. that will surely make it popular.

If you are a member of a community, that would have just the slightest of chance to go into it maybe just MAYBE you should have asked around first so you could make a informed decision about what server to go to, so yes i would call it very rash. and even if it took 1hour to make it first time cant you remember the choices and do it in 5-10mins next time?

name one mmo who locks you on a single server, the server you make the first char in, and you are unable to make another char on another server any time you wish, unless you delete that char. this is not a common knowledge.

Fine, then be ready to open your wallet or start grinding, because ANet is not going to give you a free pass.

You learn from your mistakes. I suggest you suck it up, because you’re going to get more painful lessons than this.

Mistake: Assumed servers were character bound.
Lesson: Do some research.

It isn’t exactly hard remembering the roundabout positions. 5 minutes to set them, 10 minutes to retune them.

A monthly free transfer would be more like it… and an option to pay to do it ‘now’ and how ever many times …

I transferred to a server for an event, in a period that one could server transfer every week … now i can’t get back to my initial home server without paying just because i had other things to do than play the game ?!
