profession specific armour
I agree. I play a necromancer myself, and find the options for creepy looking armors severely limited.

I completely agree with this! There was this in GW, so I don’t see a motive for why not to put it in GW2. I’ve just made a thread myself in which I share my desire to have profession specific weapons, here it is:

The only thing I also would be obligatory to have, if there were to be profession specific armor, was a different armor for each element (in case of elementalists, as similiar to seen in GW).
because first of all it doesn’t have to take much time to make them, you only have to design 8 or 16 armour types, becasue all the profession only have one type of armour(heavy, medium or light). 2 types of armour per profession would be nice
This is not true. An armor in game is a 3d image not made of real fabric. So you need 3d images for every 6 and every race. Now for Norn, Silvari and Humans, the difference are so minimal you can almost fully use the same model. For charr and Asura you need totally different models. So to do this they need to design 6 models per armor set. With 8 professions, and your wish to add 2 per professions this means they need to make 96 new models.
Although I like armor and shopping for my armor, I do think that every profession and style can get the armor they like, including some really goof-balls. I rather have them invest time in other things.

well my point was that the armour (light medium heavy) is bound to a profession, like a warrior is only able to equip heavy so they only heave to make heavy armour for the warrior and not light and medium and an engineer only needs medium. Compared to dungeon armour for example it’s a whole lot less armour to make.
you wright about the fact that charr and asura have diffrent models so they need to be redesignd, but they do not completly have to change the armour is already there they onoly need to be redesign a little bit.
i think you made a mistake with your mathmetics by the way.
2 types of profession armour X 3 diffrent models for the races = 6 models per Profession for all races
there are 8 professions so 8 prof X 6 models = 48 diffrent models
furthermore i respect your opinion.

Thank you. What I mean is that what you call a simple redesign is actually the hard part. It is the making of the model. The colouring, paterns and drawings are the easy part.
It is the reason why it was available in gw1 and not in gw2 (that there are 5 races needing 6 models for each armor set instead of 2)

I just think that they can do it, regardless all the effort. Heck, they’ve put so much effort in the game, why not make it better with this? They’ve made all the dungeon armor, they could use those models and just come up with some changes and new patterns! So many things they could bring back from GW to make GW2 the ultimate game! Profession specific armor and weapons were an excelent part of GW that must come back!
How to get them? Will the way to get profession specific armor affects the degree of freedom in game?
Armor Vendors, like in GW! It’ll give you much variety, possible choices you can make! That’s more freedom, in my opinion!
I agree with having specific looking gear BUT I would not like to have it locked to one proffesion. Why? – because I am loving the way gw2 has its gear and the tranmustation, and dye options. Its a freedom that should not be lost by having locked items of the same armour type. Having said that – i don’t think many ppl would choose to have an armour type that wasn’t ‘theirs’..
Would a thief wear some medium engineers looking armour ( labelled engineers)? – probably not.
The OP has a good point though. Even if Anet decides not to release specific armor for EVERY class, they could release one armor for one class for all races occasionally.
In fact, maybe you shouldn’t see it as just class-only armor. But armor designed towards fitting more to a necro/mesmer/ranger/whatever. It would still be light, medium, or heavy armor, and thus could still be worn by other classes. But the style would specifically tailored towards one class.
