ranger - unique/rare pets.
I LOVE this idea!
I never liked how my pets never changed as i lvled and i was disappointed that they look no different than the mobs in the world.
The idea of GW2 is that everything is accessible to EVERYBODY.
This kind of goes against that. Compare it to something like legendary weapons or ascended armour – everyone has the ability to get them, it just takes time or gold. What you’re suggesting is too dependant on luck, chance and other variables.
If you want unique/rare pets then play GW1 and unlock the Hall of Monuments. I don’t see that many rangers going around with a Black Moa or Black Widow.
My cents on the matter is that pet skins (buyable or as rare drops or rewards) would be extremely amazing. Having a white tiger skin instead of the flat exists-everywhere snow leopard would add layers of flavor to the rangers.
But it would monetize upon a class feature. I feel like if Rangers get something exclusive to their class, the other classes would do well to be treated to the same effect. Suppose however that each class gets it’s own class-specific skin-type rare/exotic reward.
Rangers get Pet Skins.
Necromancers get Death Shroud Skins.
Engineers get Kit Skins or Turret Skins (Woe upon that huge backpack while wielding a flamethrower!)
Mesmers could get Phantasm Skins
But at this point I’m only halfway through the list and I can’t seem to think of anything skin-worthy and unique enough for the remaining classes.
^— White Tigers would be likely to come with Cantha if it ever gets released, since that is where white tigers come from
i want a lion as pet
Lions can be found in Elona

Not really, it wouldn’t be any different than rare armour sets.

Because Black Moa, Black Widow, White Raven are so horrible to use in PvX that you’d rather slit your own throat before you start a fight? It takes anet for ever to remember that they are pets and to get them on par with the other pets.
Why not do something Similar to Guild Wars 1 when it came to rare pets.
Example:
Holiday pets would be out in the wild, would only become available after you finished the meta quests/content to charm. (Jingle Bear/ Jingle Moa) tons of fun options for this to do….
For Exotic pets, why not make them based on your personal story and involvement in the living story. Example: Orrian Gorilla, would only become available after you finished the Zhaitan Story Arc. Tropical Birds would be come available for finishing rather SSC 1 or 2.

Because in GW1 maps were instanced which meant everyone had exactly the same amount of chance to get the rare pets. In GW2 you’re proposing having one pet occasionally somewhere on the map which only ONE person would be able to get. People would just end up camping or finding ways to make sure their guild members got it.
With rare armours – all of them are easily attainable in game, you can either work towards crafting them or buy them off the TP. What you’re proposing has no guaranteed way for people to get it.

Why does it have to work that way? Can’t they just spawn somewhere that isn’t particularly easy to get to, or after a quest you have access to an area where you can tame one? I don’t see why they can’t be given away as a reward in some shape of form.

You didn’t fully read my post then. I suggested numerous was of getting a rare pet.
Some you could find in a dungeon, either as a random spawn or random drop. I would prefer the former. Dungeons are instanced.
Also if we talk about your issue saying guild members would camp spots? I have played a game (WoW) where rare pets would spawn at random locations around the map and never did guild members camp out for their fellow rangers. No one was ever willing to sit in a spot for hours for their fellow guild member, and never did I come across a non-ranger camping those spots either. If fact in that game it was worse because those rare pets could be killed by anyone. I did mention that they are only targetable by rangers, and could open up an instanced fight 1v1 to obtain the pet.
Also once people obtain that pet there is no need to return to get it. You may not be the first but you will eventually obtain one IF you put in the effort.
There are multiple ways to make this work, but it shouldn’t be as straight forward as going to X location and pressing F. They are rare and should be an accomplishment to obtain.
It would even be nice if as a ranger you found clues like footprints, and you could track down its location. This would also help a ranger feel more like a ranger…
They are rare and elusive, I don’t like the way you mention “guaranteed” as if you could simply buy one off the TP. This is not the idea behind obtaining one. Its for a ranger to get out there and track them down, NOT spend some gold on buying one.
I should add that they would respawn after a certain time after last being tamed. I think the confusion you have is when I say unique. I really just meant rare.
