[sPvP] Some proposed ideas.
The idea is good. I think all of us, if not most us, would like a visual rating as well as a ladder. Custom arenas also would be great, along with spectator mode.
BUT
All of this has been said before. It’s all on the " To Do " list. The only reason it hasn’t been done sooner is becuase things like MMR needed to be done first. Can’t have any sort of ranking system without properly placing people against others of equal skill. And now we have MMR.
I appreciate the post and the lack of screaming, QQ, or otherwise flaming. People need to change their mentality and realize that anything good takes time and won’t be instant.
I also love this game, and would love to see said proposed changes.
Is this for premade teams, randoms or a mixture of both?
And the reason why players are mad is that everything took so long and nearly nothing changed since beta. And there were also stepbacks in game design

I’m not sure what you mean in asking teams/randoms/both? Care to elaborate?
It should be for everyone. And patience is a virtue, ranting on the forums day in and day out is not going to make the dev’s want to change the game more, it’s only going to show them that the community they are dealing with is childish and will turn into an angry mob, making their job more difficult.
We’re definitely listening. I like these ideas a lot. Custom Arenas will still be used to fill the role of hot-join. They won’t all be password protected, and people who just want to jump into a game are still going to do that. We’re curious to see how the population shifts now that the tournament formats are changing.

Hi, Evan,
Thanks for taking you time to reach out to community.
I would like to ask you, who can I try talking to regarding the necromancer changes.
In particular, recent patch introduced a change to our DS mechanic that now forbids us from swapping weapons inside it. There has been no official word about it, even though I tried to get a response.
Once again thanks for talking to us, we appreciate that.

Phew. For a moment I had thought you were going to keep HJ and CA instead of integrating them I’m assuming you’re going to allow people to actually fix their teams, lockmap, and /votekick among others?

I like that you guys are keeping an ear and an eye out after this patch. Hopefully now with Solo Queue more casual players can realize they can just hop in games like they could do with hot-join or even do the same with Custom Arenas (maybe).

Sry for the late answer. Didn’t read it. My question was how you want to solve the problem, that premade teams play against random teams. It seems like that your system don’t really care about random and premade people. That could be a problem because randoms normally don’t like to play against premades and premates don’t like to play agianst randoms. I wanted to hear your solution about that problem.

when are you going to fix matches starting 5v4 or 5v3? Nobody on your team seems to want to respond to this major issue.

Thanks Evan for taking the time to respond, it’s a relief to hear that you’re not only reading along, but also thinking in the same lines as most players regarding the role of Customs in the future. Also thanks to TC for writing this up in such a constructive, polite manner.

Thank you, your reply is much appreciated.
To be honest, I haven’t seen much change in population since you made paids 1-round games. They seem to be extremely popular and easy to access since queue times are so low. The only problem is many people just stopped queuing for 3-round tourneys, which is what most of the less serious players like to play, since they are scared of getting facerolled by more serious players. In turn, we are losing a lot of the less experienced players shortly after they join.
Thank you again for your response.

I think there are two possible solutions to this.
- Implement a solo/duo queue system where you only get matched against other solo/duo players.
- Or if we just leave the current MM system, we give pre-made teams an artificial boost to their collective average MMR so they are less likely to get matched with a group of solos. (This may already be implemented, I’m not sure)
These two options by themselves are not enough, though. We need a larger population for these changes to take noticeable effect.
I want to emphasize, though, that these changes cannot be done overnight, we can’t expect ANet to simply make these magically happen.
Since this thread is being read ive got some suggestions regarding the solo Q debate.
One of the primary concerns about it , is that it would divide the community. It’s obviously linked to what the OP is talking about here, as funnelling hotjoin players into proper matchs is really important. And for new players like that a solo Q might be very important.
For people to learn the game, and for it to be an esport people have to learn , at least a little, the meta and how the game is really played. Not like what you have with the come and go almost deathmatch experience of hotjoin. That way they will know enough to want to watch what better players are doing.
To wit.
Solo Q , should really be solo or duo. That way its not entirely 1 or 5 only.
And to help out with the ‘wait time’ on real teams quing for ranked matchs, here are some incentives ideas that would be easy on the development time.
1. Unique titles for winning ranked team games. and winning X number of them with certain classes. Somewhat like how we have tourny titles now.
2. A tiny cash prize for ranked team games, like 10 silver a win. That way someone can make gold in spvp. ( why not, this would be trivial compared the money people make in pve, and might drag players into doing team games).
3. As a consideration, consider the 1vs1 tourny implentation with ticket cost and 5 man team requirement? The pops that where happening where still fast. Teams will definately Q.
4. By allowing solo/duo Q, the only groups left out will be groups of 3. As a 4 man group can either, easily grab a fifth from map chat. Or split into two duo teams of 2 till they have more log on.
I myself am not dying for a solo q. But the community is, and these are i think good ways to help it happen that would invovle very little investment of dev time relative to other suggestions.

Ok, I think both solution are good enough to handle the Problem. Good porposal
But in my opinion the changes in pvp takes too much time. Players are leaving constantly. This is really frustating because most of the systems we propose now, had already been implemented in guild wars 1. Random Arenas and Team Arenas worked nearly perfect in Guild Wars 1. Now we have to debate with the developers that these changes must be implemented in the game. It is really disappointing for everyone who has played and loved guild wars 1

Then: Developers dodge hard questions and simply don’t answer them. Ok i can understand that they are tired of giving the same answers again and again but we are also tired of sentences like these:

I like these ideas. One thing I’d have to say is if you want to separate teams from solo/duos I would take the the sytem LoL has implemented and just have a solo/duo ranked, a team ranked, and an all goes normal modes.
That’s just me, though. I’m sure there are other ways to go about it.
Custom Arenas will still be used to fill the role of hot-join. They won’t all be password protected, and people who just want to jump into a game are still going to do that.
I’m not sure if it’s common knowledge in this board or not, but does that mean custom arenas are going to substitute hotjoin?

Hey Evan, I just wanted to say that it’s great to see some dev activity on a lot of these threads man. I think it’s awesome and that I speak for the whole community when I thank you for the time you’ve taken to read and respond to our posts.
We’re curious to see how the population shifts now that the tournament formats are changing.
I’d like to make a prognosis: The population, after an initial boost because of the patch, will dwindle.
Mainly because of the 4v5 player bug (yes bug, not someone leaving the roster or game) and the constant matching of PUG and premade teams.
To not make this post too dramatic I’d like to add that I appreciate the recently increased ANet activity in this forum ;-)
Linked your idea in my new post (#4):

Hope you don’t mind.
Not at all. Thank you. I am annoyed, though, that this thread got moved to a subforum with abundantly more activity than the sPvP subforum so now it will get buried and discussion will end.
Mods, I would appreciate it if you moved this back to sPvP so this discussion can continue.
Thanks,

They did the same thing to me.. xDD
Remove Raid of the capricon from the mappool … no one likes that map anyways.
OR freeze all the water on that map and put “Ruins capturepoint” ontop of the ice.
Add more capture points in the pubgames 8v8 roster maps…3 points just premotes one big blobb of players zerging from one point to another wich means that tactical play is redundent. Would like to see more maps like the Allience battle map saltspray beach from gw1 with 12 capturepoints so that players learn that running as one big zerg makes you loose. Ofc scale it for 8v8
As zerging dont work in tournaments this would help the pubgamers learn how to play the map wich would make the pubgames alot more fun.
Right now when I play pub games i go to thier close point and when the enemie “zerg” comes I run away and wait for them to leave…since none is defending the point i just go back once they left…
