This game is centered around cosmetics isn’t it?

It is also laballed as “casual friendly and not grindy”.

That being said, I want to get a second set of gear for my character. The stats on most items are the same, but if I will transmute them into other item the previous skin is gone.

My idea is the following :

when you obtain an item you unlock a skin in your skin storage, the skins still needs a transmutation stone but when you transmute it the skin is not used. That way we don’t have to keep a ton of items of diffrent stats and skins and constantly re-farm them when we use them on a new outfit.

It was a bit hard to explain but I hope it is understandable. =)
Is something like this possible? Are devs working on this? As for now, the whole transmuting is messy and unpracticable. Ty.

Um… you don’t HAVE to do anything of the sort. If you intend on being a fashionista then I guess you will keep a lot of extra junk. In any case transmutation is a gold sink, it’s supposed to destroy something, otherwise it’s not working properly.

If you like the stats and the appearance on the thing, though, why are you transmuting it. The whole point of transmutation is that you have two things but you only like one of the things on each, then you combine them to get the whole you wanted.

Oh yeah the “you dont have to” attitude.

Amazing approach to any idea. You don’t have to pve, pvp, do dungeons, events, get legendaries, look cool. You don’t even have to play the game. It is perfect, has no flaws, and needs no improvements. If I don’t like it it is not for me yea?

Dude I don’t mind a gold sink. Let that skin storage be separate for every character and let every skin unlock cost some gold.

THERE IS NOTHING TO DO HERE BESIDES CHASING FOR GOOD LOOKS. I want to have a few pvp and pve builds because ANet said there is a build diversity here so there is nothing wrong if I get bored with one thing and switch gear to play another one yea? And if I switch from berserker build to full tank build I don’t want to look half naked with lot’s of spikes n stuff, got it? The point is why do I need to keep A TON of items around me to do that? As they say, customisation and looks is the goal and core of this game so why is it so messed? It should be easily manageable… Seriously there is already enough things to make me buy additional bank slots, skins won’t make a diffrence.

If you already ask, I thought about it when trying out new ranger build. I have been playing a full glass cannon one previously. Everything was berserker. Now I went melee and wanted to balance the gear a bit, and I realized that in this non grindy, cosmetic oriented game I have to grind a tanky jawellery, tanky weapons and on top of that another (2nd) set of berserker armor if I want to have a diffrent look for diffrent build, and I don’t want to abandon my old one forever.

Um… pretty sure the OP didn’t say he “has to” do this either, he said he wants to. The transmutation process as it is currently set up discourages people from acquiring additional gear sets purely for visual variety, as you need to acquire two sets of gear for each look. This feels punitive as you are effectively paying again for something you already have (exotic stats of a particular spread).

This means that most players will simply pick whichever armor set they think looks best, transmute it to the stats they use the most and call it a day. They may acquire additional sets for different builds (and pick the next best looking set in their opinion), so if we assume a condition, berzerker and survivability set that’s a max of six sets of armor you need and 18 transmutation crystals.

If acquiring additional sets for their cosmetic value after those first six that you “need” did not require you to double up as it currently does people would be encouraged to acquire more skins total. Players want to collect as many looks as possible, but not when the system forces them to also collect duplicate exotic stat spreads. Obviously I don’t have any data on how much gold the current system destroys, however there are plenty of gold sinks in the game already and if inflation is a problem Anet can easily create new ones. A system like the OP suggests would also drive sales of transmutation crystals through the roof, which I’m sure wouldn’t be bad for Anet.

I agree with the OP; I like the idea of “unlocking” skins on a character (kind of like a built in wardrobe or pvp locker), this way we could equip the stats we want, and apply whichever skin we desire at the time (possibly including legendary weapons and town clothing).
