People want it so professions can’t spam it all day long but maybe it should instead be increased DMG taken while in stealth with like 25stacks of invulnerability for the duration of the stealth or maybe just a regular % like frenzy. Or perhaps after taking x# of hits while stealthed they are revealed. Perhaps even toss in a couple key skills that cause reveal. Warriors pin down, guardians orb detonation, mesmers mindstab, ranger bonfire, thief clusterbomb, necro fear mark, engineer (no ideas here I don’t play them), ele (not sure). Be able to break stealth with a skilled/lucky shot or simply prevent it for a short moment.

Either would encourage more intelligent play against stealth. Instead of the current theme of ganking noobs and stealth running when they engage and find they are outmatched. As well as resetting fights through stealth spamming.

I am not talking about just thieves BTW. Should apply to mesmers as well. Well, any stealth really.

Note that Mesmer/Engi/Ranger Stealth options are in a completely different league than that of Thieves. With Mesmer being the game’s 2nd “best” Stealth operative, Mesmer Stealth doesn’t stack with itself, like Thief’s can. Reasonable mods to Stealth could include one of the following concepts:

  • Revealed triggering on missed attacks. This would be a faster fix, and most Stealth players tend to be a bit smarter on their positioning, as is.
  • No form of Stealth stacking duration with others. This would force a bit more tactical usage of the ability. However, considering how much Thieves gain from Stealth and associated Traits, there’d need to be a commensurate boost in their defensive effiency. Otherwise, by “fixing” Stealth, you effectively nerf an entire Traitline and other linked Traits.
  • This is the code-nightmare one: Retweak Stealth to operate more like Predator camouflage. Instead of true Invisibility, it would then make it harder to see the Stealth-User. Correspondingly, we could (potentially) then apply a certain amount to their defense as an “Evasion/Miss Chance” percentage. It would also avoid the problems inherent in my second theory.

This was the issue with the increased “Revealed” timer. That did frackall to fix the actual “issues” of Stealth in this game, tbh.

So Nerfing the intending function of an attack to do more damage from stealth should be changed because you cannot kill a thief? Stealth is working as intended and is a game mechanic that is critical for a stealth class.

Just so you know a thief is a stealth class, and other classes that use stealth powers are for auxillary purposes. Hence the additional attacks from stealth that are included only in the thief class.

Shadow Refuge is a great stealth, but the fact that is very easy to counter by spamming attacks and AoEs, under the big ring with a house above it.

The main reasons people are scared of thieves is because of the OP attitude people give them, because they run from fights which give a damage boost to thieves. So what i do, is lay down some AOEs, traps, marks, w/e and then go off on a thief. Point to take here is that you might not win, but you’ll have more of a chance fighting then running.

yes, discourage thieves from living in stealth forever while occasionally peaking out of it for 5sec to do dmg only to jump back in seconds later. If they wanna play peekaboo, like they already do, then make stealth cause +25% more dmg to the user. Encourage people to try and get someone in stealth by using their skills intelligently. As it is now a thief in stealth will just shrug off the one or two aoe hits and be perfectly fine.

You gotta get creative.

I can’t count how many times I’ve seen a Thief go to stealth in the middle of some of my animations, only for them to emerge from it in downed state.

CC and Immobilize work kitten well.

Thieves are probably the squishiest class in the game. Yes the class has evades but thats it. Thieves are scavengers, take what they can, and if they can’t they flee.

Lets compare this to Light armor characters, shall we:

Necros: Very tanky, conditions, cripples, a decent necro will put a good fight with a thief and the necro will most likely win.

Elles: If you are a glass cannon elle in WvW, gtfo. Dagger/ Dagger bunker builds are awesome, against thieves. I’ve seen thieves melt in stealth against elles.

Mesmers: Mesmers have a good amount of fleeing powers, and high burst damage to drop a thief (worse comes to worse, Moa).

That being said, when you are in WvW or SPvP, know you character. If you are a roaming glass cannon you will die, a lot. Learn builds and strats. Dont think that just because you are great in PvE you are also amazing in WvW. A lot of people put a lot of time into understanding the game mechanics of each of their characters to understand how to play them better, and if they get killed they learn from their mistake. So use this as a way to learn to play your class better against a stealthed foe, instead of dumbing the game down so you can enjoy it over the enjoyment of someone that can play their character better.
