Q:

Things that don’t seem right in this game…

  • Why are the gem store prices so out of line with reality? $10 for character slot expansion but $7.50 for bank expansion? Why would anyone spend real money on bank expansions when a character can get a 60 slot inventory for nothing? The bank slots are also static, they’re just bank slots while the character can be used as a storage mule or actually played. Also, why are character slots $10 when I bought the game for $40 in November? Although the price of the game fluctuates wildly, a new game is $40(or less…or more) for 5 characters and an expansion is $10 for 1 character. The prices don’t make sense to me.
  • Why does the TP charge 15% of each sale to the seller? Can’t we have a free/open market like GW1? Are you trying to stop inflation by destroying gold to keep prices down? That won’t work…and you’re only encouraging higher prices by forcing sellers to pay a listing fee before the item is sold. If I list an item for 50c below the lowest asking price, I’m not paying the listing fee again because 30 people are offering the item for less an hour later, it’s going to sit there until it’s sold. This is how most people sell items and since re-listing the item costs gold, players are only encouraged to keep their listing as it is and push prices higher. Even if you want to keep the tax, put the whole tax on the sale of the item- never the listing itself.
  • What’s the point of soulbinding? In GW1, getting max armor/weapons was very easy for a level 20. The items weren’t flashy but they were cheap and you could work towards more attractive ones. The armor was soulbound, weapons were not unless you chose to bind them. Max items in this game aren’t cheap and everything is soulbound ensuring that prices stay high(as every set is unsellable once equipped). Every MMO I’ve played allows you to sell items whether you used them or not. It’s like Anet took something that wasn’t an issue in GW1 and brought it to an MMO where exotic armor/weapons aren’t that easy to get. This discourages people from testing and discovering new styles/builds by forcing them to keep each set of equips.
  • Does WvW have to be so slow? The maps are huge and the constant running makes the game feel so dull. Couldn’t 1-2 more posts have WPs available? Or could small WPs that handle a certain number of people every minute be added? Adding unrestricted WP usage anywhere would probably be bad as it would allow a zerg to dominate the entire map. But there’s gotta be something to make WvW feel faster/more dynamic.
  • Why did Anet create the personal story? I know it’s fun to be different but it doesn’t promote any type of teamwork or push people to work together. Who enjoys playing solo through an entire story with very little multi-player(dungeons)? Was it created for hermits? The whole game seems to have been created to encourage nice play but doesn’t really promote people to stay together. A more linear story encourages people to team up more, talk more and play together more often(don’t like admitting it but it’s true). And the worst part of the story is finally playing arah. This is how I felt: http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/064/5/3/drive_me_closer_by_dirkloechel-d3axsog.jpg

Really Anet? I don’t even get to touch him?

I agree with your first two points, especially that sales tax should apply at the sale and not at listing.

I disagree with your point on gear. Souldbound does help the economy and prevents over-saturation. I also disagree with exotics being hard to get.

The point of WvW I sort of agree with. I would not want more waypoints, but I would enjoy smaller maps with slightly less travel time.

The personal story? I’m okay with it I guess. My main issue with the PS is that the story becomes boring / cliche when the Pact stuff begins. I would much rather have continued down my own path after discovering the fate of my parents, and continue to help with Human politics. The White Mantle / Mursaat / Human Gods lore is my favorite and I wish it escalated into more of that instead of the Elder Dragons. Though I am sure the Dragons will make more sense once we learn more about them.
