vip/premium membership
And yes im talking about a monthly subscription
I don’t think a subscription is necessary.
If they would take away some of the RNG elements of the game, people would be more inclined to buy stuff off the gem store if money was an issue. Which at this point, I don’t think it is.

The Black Lion stuff makes them more money than a subscription model.
My point is not realy about Dev making money , its more about getting all the content for a certain fee per month , i dont want to spend 20$ time to time to buy stuff in the the black lion market, i want to have full acess , i dont want to buy a key for a black lion chest , i want to be able to open it when it drops
To be honest something similar came to my mind long time ago. Not as extreme as your proposal but still in a direction of a monthly subscription. Thing is in the last couple of months I can’t shake the feeling that I am playing some F2P game with a strong emphasizes on micro-transactions. Normally I wouldn’t mind cosmetic stuff etc. (I never did during my eight years of GW1) but after seeing so many literally offensive restrictions in the game I simply have the feeling that someone in ANet decided to restrict how much content is worth the price that was initially paid for the game. I mean restricting people from entering that new Divinity’s Reach zone that was introduced during the Queen’s Jubilee event to people which bought a pass from the gem store really felt low. Then implementing an idea that was suggested by many people here (myself included) to introduce an instant trait reset token yet putting an insane price tag of 4g per use on it also felt very restrictive.
To cut the long story short, if adding an optional monthly subscription meant that people could enjoy unrestricted content which actually felt like something cohesive then I would gladly pay for it.
Always 1 oyster in the bay.
Let’s not go down this road, again.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…

In other words, you want to spend money but “I dont want to buy a key”.
So will the people who pay this subscription fee get all the chests opened that they want while people who don’t want to pay a fee have to buy a key per chest. So what is it that you want. Free stuff with a fee (not really free) or stuff that you can choose to buy when you want it? You make “full access” sound like “free stuff”.
what are you talking about?
you already have full access to everything in the game.
everything in the gem store can be bought with in game gold.
No its not about free stuff , i could buy keys with gold , its not the point the point is that i dont want to pay gem to buy stuff , i want to have access to this stuff or all the content that you need to pay with gem , with ingame currency , and yes i know i can exachange gold for gem , but its way more easy to buy gems and it also mean that you can buy gold with $ ingame
So you want to pay a monthly fee to get all the armor skins, keys. mining picks, etc?
So I join for a month, then loot the TP for as much as I can then go back to a standard account? Sounds like a great way for players to cheat Anet. On the other hand, you pay a monthly fee and end up paying far more then you would if you just purchased the items outright?
This is just a really bad idea all the way around.
depend on wath price you pay , and wath they put on the gem store, they cant revemp the store
the gem store is working fine.
there is no need to revamp the billing system.
Won’t ever happen. They’d lose the income from the gem store.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
no thank you.
I already have everything and if there is something I want in the store I can just buy it and it cost me a lot less than your “premium membership”
Hahahaha. This game would collapse the minute that a subscription fee is implemented. I am very sure that the majority of the population would leave, including myself. Then the GW2 box would be used to keep me warm at night when I use it in place of fire starter. It’s a good idea for the minority, but for the majority, it is not.
Won’t happen; thank goodness. Want ta talk about a mass exodus – the game would vanish almost overnight. Guild Wars doesn’t charge monthly fees, it’s a cornerstone ah their business model. Ya wanna spend 15 bucks a month on gems, go ahead, but you won’t see a subscription model happening.
I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.
Sounds good, but as of know they would probably make less money if the implemented, maybe not, it depends on the spending habits of GW2 players, and who anet gets most of their money from.
Most sub free games probably rely on a small percentage of the player base who have a lot of disposable income to spend a health amount of money on the game each month to make up for hose to don’t spend a dime. (I’m thankful to those who do this) If they implemented an optional monthly fee, most of the big spenders will probably switch to that.
In comparison to what I pay for WoW which is 15 a month, GW2 is much much more expensive with its gem store prices. This is why I never spend a dime on GW2, I prefer a flat monthly rate while everything in-game is free.
But like someone said, they make more money off gem store than monthly fee by a long shot because there are crazies that spend thousands.
The Black Lion stuff makes them more money than a subscription model.
It would make a lot more if prices were lower.
i dont want to buy a key for a black lion chest , i want to be able to open it when it drops
Sounds pretty good, buy one month of premium access, buy up the millions of black lion chests on the TP for 5c each, open them all to get enough goodies to last you years, and then never have to spend gems for anything ever again. 10/10 would do.
The most they would do, if they do it, would be to make a supporter’s membership which would give you a certain number of gems a month, and maybe some shirt or title you can wear showing you’re a supporter.

Didn’t even read it.
It would be better for them to make a premium membership battlefield style
No monthly fees, 1 payment, easy as pie
It’s impossible to do at this moment.
You can’t pass from a free to play model to a subscription model. If you are granted access to BLT items for a small fee (like a sub fee of 15$), what would stop you from paying 1 month, getting the items you want then stop paying?
yeah let’s just nullify one of the strongest marketing aspects of gw2.
Seriously, I vote this thread for the worst Idea of 2013.

To quote Shawn from GuildCast way back
“They made it so clear, no subscription fee ever, it practically burned into my screen.”
VIP Access AFTER 60$?!?!
I play Guild Wars 2 BECAUSE of no subscriptions, and I refuse to go down that expensive road again.
No. No. NO. Someone close this thread.
