why cant i do group events solo?
It is not trolling to say Group event are made for Group. It is only saying what it is.
It is content made for people who play in group. No friends? don’t want to party up with people? Do content that is soloable, which is everything that doesn’t specifically say [Group Event]

True.
I had a friend play with me from day 1, so a lot of the stuff we did was pretty easy. Most of the times we got killed because I screwed up: I’m still not quite used to the whole dodging thing, it’s a totally new mechanic for me.
So finding some group event boss and spending like 10 minutes on the verge of death killing it was fun. A lot of fun.
And let’s be honest, a lot of the event chains that affect waypoints are already kinda messed up. The only reason you see those waypoints contested is because people are farming events. They do the chain, they port somewhere else, and while they’re away, the mobs retake the zone.
Also, the Group Events are kinda like the major evil bosses around. Of course, there’s Champions, but you don’t get a big note telling you about them, unless they’re part of an event. And a lot of the bosses or stuff for Group Events is tied pretty well. You got some exploration group who got annihilated by a boss or you got a fisherman who cannot fish because of a gigantic Barracuda in his spot.
And really, it is an MMO. There needs to be content that you’re meant to do wth a group. And let’s be honest, if you made all Group Events soloable, it would take about a day before people would be asking for Dungeons to be soloable as well. And then you would have no content that requires groups by design. You would only have content that “requires” a group because of the quantity of mobs it spawns. And that’s just bullkitten.

for the trolls the obvious answer is “they werent designed that way” “youre not meant to over power everything” “you cant do a GROUP event solo” . okay so wheres my group dynamic events are meant to attract players is it really my fault no one else is around? should i be forced to form a raiding party before going anywhere just to do dynamic events? if theyre going to do that then why not just bring back the trinity so it feels more co ordinated. which would be more fun than just trying to get 5 people.
now dont get me wrong i like dynamic events but think the execution and possibly even the theory is flawed. but i have a solution. just make events possible solo. ive fought bosses that take less than a second to knock me down and kill me. regenerate health faster than i can kill them. ect ect. i cant do it alone but its in the definition of being dynamic(in that they just happen and so should groups) that i shouldnt have to find a group. you dont have to make them so quickly complete that a solo player breezes through them before anyone else can join. but please lower hp attack condition damage amount of items needed(i think they do this already anyway). keep them active and let other players see that meter for the bosses health or the items collected (which should slowly rise not immeadiatly spike just so people know someone is actively doing the event) like a beacon for other players. if this doesnt work its still a step in a direction guild wars needs to go. i cant play a lot of your content because not many seem to be up for “lfg to run some dynamic events in such and such map”. if they dont want to join fine ill do it myself. make it difficult or tedious in terms of hp. but im sure others will join if they see activity that isnt hopeless. then crank up the difficulty only enough so that i dont dread seeing another player.
Sorry they are not flawed.. If it says group event that is what it means.. A large amount of people. And who are you to say it is trolling when those that reply that they aren’t designed that way or you can’t do a group event solo. The fact is you just don’t want to hear it. Well, you gonna hear it or see it anyway… Group events aren’t designed that way so you can’t do them solo. So if you call my post trolling you obviously don’t know what a troll is. If there aren’t anyone around, they are easily bypassed. Or you can announce in map chat that there is a group event going on. Nobody may know about it if you announce it they may come to participate.
People are always looking for group events and or announcing it in map chat- really you have no reason to do a group event solo. Just link the nearest waypoint, problem solved.
Sorry to say but it is a group event for a reason.
People can solo most of this game, it is nice to need other players for some content.
Also just imagining trying to solo Balthazar gives me nightmares.
If you keep your gear up to date, trait correctly and make use of weapon switching, most group events are solo-able. Once you hit level 80, lower level group events become trivial. Even plenty of the group events in Orr can be soloed. If you are good enough that is.

This is true.
Also no reply in chat doesn’t mean people aren’t already on their way to get there.
So wait at least 1 minute after you’ve asked and You’ll most likely see people come to help.
if the event dont have a champion in it, you can solo it easily. I do em all the time, I farmed 3 events that spawn within a minute of each other and once the third ones done I can repeat the 1st one.
So you cant do solo. SOme you can. Since they are designed to be group events that fact that I can solo some at all shouldnt be correct. But at least Anet have plenty for all to sink their teeth into.
Group event are made for groups , and that is the end of it.
To begin with making champions so weak one player can defeat them while Anet buffs the drops would be stupid.
first off they arent called group events. theyre called dynamic events. and yes their design is flawed. the way anet intended them was for them to attract players when notified about them. sometimes they do and sometimes they dont. and in dead maps they always dont and may as well not be in the game.
all im asking is if i want to do a dynamic event on a dead map…. that i be able to play that content on the fly like theyre intended. and not form a raiding party. like anet intended. because i know few other people will. i dont like seeing a boss and running by them… when i see those orange symbols on my minimap for whatever event my heart should flutter with excitmentk, but instead i usually end up just seeing how far ill have to walk around to avoid it. this isnt fun and its not what they wanted . accept it. they arent working the way they wanted to and either the players have to change from farming to exploring (which they wont and everyone knows it) or the events themselves have to change, which they can and should. stop arguing that everything is fine with them because its not. otherwise every event i went to would be a kittenen party… and it isnt. time to face reality and stop arguing against me and try to think of some solutions. because im right and even anet would agree.
so in essence you want the game dumbing down to the point that its all fodder? And people will argue with them being fine because they are.
You made a thread and just thought everyone would just be up in arms and support you. Bubble burst then
Wait a second, before anyone gets too far along in the conversation, I’d like to point out that GW2 did in fact, ADVERTISE the fact that their events are dynamic in a way that 1 person with better than average skills can beat the events and that the more people that join the event, the more difficult it becomes. I personally have not observed this to be the case. I’ve done many events several times with 3 people up to 40 ppl or more, the creatures do not change dynamically as advertised.

They do.
I was doing an event in Frostgorge Sound, when a bunch of bots crossed the event area. The end result? The mobs toughened up and I got slaughtered.
And it wasn’t even a group event, nor did I have trouble with it before the bots got into the vicinity.
IMHO, the suggestion shouldn’t be ‘make DE’s solo-able’, but ‘What can we do to give players incentive to go back to previous areas’.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.

They 100% sure do.
Reason i got so mad the other day , when i was soloing a champ , a bunch of useless weaklings joined , and i began to almost die , had to leave let them all be killed before i could come back and finish him alone … so funny right? I actually began to have trouble because others actually joined the event.

Unless its a Champion I have soloed most DE’s, so I dont see what the problem is.
first off they arent called group events. theyre called dynamic events.
Then why is there a [Group event] plastered next to the event name? obviously group events are a form of dynamic event that is meant for several people to handle. this isn’t a troll but a fact. but i acknowledge that it could be better, but to make them soloable? no. the issue is the fact that players can be hard to find on some maps (kessex hills being one of the most glaring examples on my home server). but i find that the maps are hardly ever as empty as they seem. a few shouts in the chat often results in enough players popping up. in the event that players are not showing up, just move along, you really don’t have to move THAT far off your course to stay clear of a boss.
i think the whole leveling system is working against the game in this regard. As opposed to other mmorpgs, where one could spend days or weeks in one area due to paced leveling, GW2 has it set where you can basically stay in a area for a day or two and move on.
Give new players incentive to say in maps long and give the guys chilling in orr a reason to get their butts back to the lower level areas.
because apparently leaving 90% of straits of devastation either contested or full of pointless events no one will do is smart design.

The 2 things should not be related.
Anet should work on making people want to go there do events , be it rewards or something they use to call them.
That does not mean making one player do 90% of the events alone.
cos in Orr people are farming Plinx and ignore the rest of the area mainly. Its sad but also true.

they do. Some, increase the Toughness/Vitality of a champion mob for each person fighting it, others increase the spawn rate or decrease the amount of progress each kill/action is worth. A Great example is the glider event in the Asura starting area. If you do the event solo, you have maybe 2-4 gliders at a time, and each glider is worth a significant amount of progress towards the events completion. But once large groups of people show up, the numbers of gliders increase drastically and the amount of progress they provide to the event reduces.
Also Anet has stated previously that the game is soloable 1-80 however not all content will be accessible. Some zones have content designed for groups and will not be possible for solo players. But the vast majority of the content is soloable. And most zones only have 1 small portion that’s not solo-able.
