A Sylvari Engineer
Mhm – I don’t know much about the lore, but considering we have 2 racial skills:
Seed Turret: Create a Seed Turret at targeted location which will attack nearby enemies.
Take Root: Take root at your current location, becoming immobile, but causing several turrets to grow nearby.
They do seem to fit an engineer quite well.
I never use any of the racial skills though.
1. Lore-wise, why would a Sylvari become an Engineer?
Thanks!
To rebel against his nature. Humans do it all the time.
Just because Sylvari happen to be plants doesn’t mean they hate technology. No reason being an Engineer should bother you, lore-wise.
Heck, I’m pretty sure there are a couple Sylvari NPCs in the personal story who are Engineers.
As Electro said, sylvari don’t hate technology. They are curious and interested in the rest of the world. Right now there is an influx in the engineer profession because the charr have demonstrated how effective their technology is. So your sylvari could have a few reasons depending on your individual character.
- To learn about the charr
-to broaden your horizons and join the larger world outside of the grove (which would also fit any class)
-They may have a mechanical knack
really, it would be the same reasons any non-charr race would take it up, since it is charr tech that they are specializing in.

Thanks for the replies. I’ve pictured a sylvari with a alchemy knack specifically, but it looks like all can go!

Sylvari can easily work with any and all classes, really every race has somewhere each class would fit.
I think it would be difficult to advance technologically if you restricted yourself to plant-based solutions anyway, so of course a sylvari with an innovate side could take up engineering.
Heck, engineers are a varied class, so it’s easy to have fun with. For example, my sylvari engineer started out trying to find an alchemical solution to promote fire resistance in sylvari. She tested her concoctions herself and one… backfired. Now she’s kind of mentally unbalanced. And by that I mean, she tends to prefer her surroundings be on fire.
So now it’s easy to see how she might prefer using the elixir gun and flamethrower. Overall, I picture her as a sort of “mad scientist” type, so engineer makes a lot of sense for her.
The same reason some people LOVE their LEGO sets.

Sylvari is a very curious race. A Sylvari Engineer may just be curious about industrial weapons…
Simple answer would be their curious nature of wanting to know more about the world. What better way then to study all the neat gadgets the other races have invented and possibly create their own. The new NPC Scarlet is a Sylvari engineer/scientist that created doomsday robots and tons of other stuff. XD
Plants love technology anyways…like greenhouses and playing in the sprinklers. :o
I don’t think Scarlet would be the best example of curious awesomeness that is sylvari engineering. There’s a difference between being crazy about something and being something crazy.
