Caladbolg - The Pale Tree's Sword
Ok i fixed the topic hehhee u.u… cant use spaces between the lines

Ooo cant wait to give it a try on my Sylvari!
A reason why people hate trahearne.
Slot 1 is similar in behaviour to guardian mainhand sword IIRC, slot 2 is chain lightning as you observed, slot 3 is a simple melee knockdown, slot 4 is Illusionary Wave on the mesmer, and slot 5 is Whirling Wrath. The names are changed, though, and it’s plausible that you could produce all of those effects using elemental magic.
(To be honest, I’m kinda glad Caladbolg is only in PC hands briefly. I prefer playing my character rather than just being the Bearer of Caladbolg.)
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
Aye I wasn’t sad to see Saladbowl- er I mean Caladbolg go either. I wasn’t expecting to have to use it in a mission so I was flailing about spamming skills wishing I could earthstomp-sandstorm-churningearth combo.
When I first heard about the sword through the story line it sounded really good. I was thinking: super sword, nice.
But when I went through this step on my Sylvari ranger the game made me use the sword. When I had the sword, I had no pet. The novelty of having a named sword super quickly wore off, it just made the battle harder than it should have been. Esp. since I was and still am specced into beast mastery.
I thought the graphic looked really cool, and carrying it around was fun, but they should have given you the option to change back to your other weapon sets.
I agree that it makes the battle harder than it would otherwise be, mostly because you’ve never used the weapon before and aren’t used to playing with it. It’s cool to see the different effects, but I pretty much just mashed buttons to use it…
The value of Caladbolg probably depends largely on your profession. For professions like the warrior and guardian, which don’t rely too heavily on their profession special mechanics and have the basic fundamentals of solid melee survivability, I imagine Caladbolg would be great. For most professions, though, losing class features and/or the skills that normally offset their relative squishiness is… painful.
I went into that one as an Elementalist, so I got to go into that one with all the squishiness inherent in that profession using a set of weapon skills that were, for my purposes, an inferior substitute for staff air (let alone the other three attunements).
(Even for the soldier professions, Caladbolg has the problem of lacking focus – it has two melee and one quasi-melee skill, a long-ranged skill, and a pushback. This is probably a compromise aimed at making it vaguely useful for all professions, but while having a spammable ranged attack and a spammable melee attack on the same weapon is nice, softer professions probably do end up just spamming lightning and hoping they don’t have to use the other skills.)

Anyone else notice it’s got what plants crave?

Doesn’t necessarily have to come from the toilet.
Do you even lift, bro?
I remember that sword ….
How I HATE it still.
A Mesmer carrying that sword is hit hard. Loosing 2x Clones, 2x Phantasms (Remember, no weapon swap either), and being stuck in melee without Blurred Frenzy, Chaos Armor, or Chaos Storm? Nightmarish, and made me glad the sword got stuck in Trahearne’s hands. Thats not even considering if they allow Dodge Clones to work with it or not, as I can’t recall if it did at the moment.
(Though I wouldn’t mind having the Skin for Sylvari racial specific weapon though.)
My basic thoughts when carrying and trying to use it was …
“No WONDER why everyone else who carried the blade before me DIED!”

Trahearne would’ve of added to the many “favored” Firstborn death toll if we hadn’t been put on full on guard duty…

Maybe that’s why he goes down so often, guy can’t even be a Necromancer with that thing glued to his hands and whenever we revive him, it just makes him suffer even more. I wholly support him wielding Saladbolg now that I think about it.
