Convince me!
I love the Sylvari because there is quite a lot of mystery around their beginning and because they are so connected to nature
I have one human character, but I have four Sylvari, and my main is a Sylvari.
The customisation is awesome on Sylvari characters too because of the different colours of skin, pattern and glow. Recently my room mates and I made four Sylvari elementalists and we each use one of the elements and we customised our Sylvaris to look like their respective elements. They look really cool running around together xD
I have characters of every race, though, and it’s always good to mix it up and try new things ^.^
sylvari while having limited amount of faces ( like any race in this game) can look completely different thanks to skin colors/glow/eyes
amazing cultural armor
sylvari females run properly and not chopped off like humans currently do
[Teef] guild :>
The glow. If you use the lights-out option in character creation you can test out how the glow will look with various hair, face, and color choices. I always set the glow to brightest and then at night my sylvaris shine like stars. The cultural armor is also amazing, though not all of it’s to my taste (big clunky boots, no thanks).
If you RP there’s so much range to sylvari characters. They can be anything you like because each one comes out of the pod with a unique set of knowledge of the outer world. I still make each one somewhat astounded by the reality they face. Also they have empathy with other sylvari, which isn’t a super power but is an interesting addition to interactions. One of my guildies has a sylvari who runs a brothel that just got wrecked in LA. She wrote a really great story of his burial in the ruins and rescue, in which his usually repressed powerful empathy became the beacon that let others find him and pull him out, as he broadcast his pain and fear and anger.
Humans get a better home city, and have the interesting feel of being the race on the down and outs (if you follow the lore), but sylvari have so much more creative potential.
This thread seems fishy. Maybe he’s already a Sylvari, even at heart and just wants to be praised and told how awesome of a Treebro he is? :o
Sylvari is the mater race
we are the most graceful.
have the best animations
have the best character customization
the ability to grow our own armor
as a bonus we glow at night.
Arguably the best racial elite- take root is amazing
It seriously bothers me deeply that whenever I play one of my 3 humans I do not glow.
So much that I have made additional Sylvari’s to compensate for my poor human 80’s
Ah yes, animations! Male or female, sylvari got the best /dance of all. One that looks like something they’d actually do. It may be a pop culture reference but it’s not a fad dance.
I am so tired of cutesy modern dances shoehorned into worlds where they don’t fit ><
Dreadlocks…thats it thats all I should need to say
As cliche as it is to say it, here it is. Who plays a human in a high fantasy game? They are like the people that go to a Mexican restaurant and order the cheeseburger :p

Considering GW, the only race you could play in GW1 was human. One of the major reasons I’d imagine for playing a human in GW2 is if you wanted a character that was a descendant of your GW1 character.
As for sylvari, they’re awesome. They are a nature race that is not an elf (talk about cliche), or a nymph or dryad. They have an awesome appearance, with lots of colors, styles, and a glow. They are apparently biologically immortal. They have an intriguing, and mysterious backstory, which lends itself to an interesting racial character. Their starting zone has three jumping puzzles. Their hometown is an amazing three tier giant tree that is still fairly easy to navigate.
Thank you all for your comments. You have convinced me to choose Sylvari. After spending a few hours with this race I fell in love.
Sylvari are so openminded. They seems to be so carefree but in fact they face many problems.
I love Sylvari personal strory. Brew it is one of the most polished. I love their voice. The accent is wonderful. It’s a huge relief after playing female norn with her deep voice. I really like the fact that the Sylvari storyline make me feel appreciation by other characters. Throughout its history, I overcame Bercilak and felt my victory during the dialogues with the characters.
I really like the Sylvari sexuality. They have no problem with that if they love a man or a woman. It is rarely seen in RPGs. Remind me Asari from Mass Effect.
I personally believe that when it comes to the appearance of the Sylvari are the most gain in the night. Their design is amazing. I love their dreadlocks. Such a unique appearance lacked in other breeds. Now I have to make room for the other Sylvari. I think i will reroll most of my characters to Sylvari. I wish I had tried this before.
Thank you all again!
P.S. To Doggie.3184 <— actualy im not “him” im woman.

HA my point about the dreadlocks rose above all!! DREADS
Hi.
Im heavily wonder about the choice of breed for a new character. The choice is between a Human and Sylvari. Please try to convince me to choose Sylvari. Why these race is better choice than Human?
we glow. enough said.

Here’s my answer: Storyline & NPCs
The Sylvari are the focus of the main GW2 storyline. You can’t get the entire story without playing at least 1 salad. The Nightmare court are much better baddies than the centaurs and White Mantle combined. Plus, the human storyline is just a bland copy of the Sylvari storyline.
Caithe and Trahearne are a zillion times better than Logan. I played the human PS up to level 10, but I was forced to quit because the NPCs were too bland. Logan is too Mary Sue goody-goody two shoes and his story is about protecting the Queen. His story doesn’t go anywhere. He has no flaws, neurosis, or obsessions to make him interesting.
Caithe is will be the first NPC your sylvari character will encounter. She not only tries to get the original Destiny’s Edge back together, but there is possibility that she may be leaning towards Nightmare. And did I mention that she loves the leader of the Nightmare Court? She also opens up more if your Sylvari is from Cycle of Night or Cycle of Dusk.
Trahearne is better understood if you play the Sylvari PS. Yes, he’s still a bit of a snarky j___ a__ who steals others glory. Keep in mind that his attitude towards a character changes depending on what order you choose:
Trahearne hates the Vigil (I’ve seen other players’ vigil characters being treated very poorly by this guy.)
He’s suspicious of the Order of Whispers. (My main Sylvari —a member of the Whispers-- was treated as dirt by this guy. BTW— Did you know that the Order is trying to keep tabs on this guy? I found this out by having my main talk to Gardener Oraiste outside the entrance to the House of Aife. My main character has a noble personality.)
He loves the Piory. (He’s all sweety-sweety with my second character — a female ranger who has a charming / captivating personality. I was surprised when I first saw this. )
IF you do decide to create a sylvari character, the best storyline is the White Stag story, and pick the philosophy “Where Life Goes so too should you”. The philosophy will help you get access to the Malyck storyline which may be the focus of future Living Story updates. You’ll find out why when you play the story.

AH! So you did pick Sylvari!
TWO THUMBS UP for the sexuality comment. That’s the best part of playing a salad.
Welcome to our leafy family!

I love the dance! It’s called the Bhangra dance, and it’s a traditional folk dance from the Punjabi people of India. It reinforces my Engie Sylvari’s nerdy nature and personality.
You can read more about the dance here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhangra_
