Has anyone tried Sylvari Engineer?
The racials are extremely underpowered, I would not advise picking a race because of them, or a race/class combo because of them. The recast timers are usually much higher than skills of the same type. Thus, you’d be better off using an engineers own turrets.
Your number of turrets is actually capped by the game. The seed turret and engineer turrets will fail to spawn if you cast them while taking root. Therefore, engineer is kind of a crappy choice if you want to use those racials specifically. Not that I’d recommend Seed Turret anyway. Take Root can be okay for classes that don’t have another reliable source of invulnerability.
If you insist on using the racial skills after someone said that it’s very underpowered then…
You can use Seed Turret along with Supply Crate as the Elite. ( since it drops turrets but does not destroy the turrets that are already deployed ) – But I could be wrong. Eheh…
I have a sylvari engineer and from my experience the lower racials are not bad, but engineers simply have better skills to put in the slots in comparison.
Healing Seed has nothing better over Healing Turret.
Seed Turret has a nice 1500 range but it’ll target yellow and white mobs even if there’s a red one in its range if it is closer. It applies 10 sec bleeding unmentioned in the tooltip but even with it it can’t even kill a firefly by itself. It fires in a huge arc so will miss targets if they move. 30 sec time limit. Terrible, terrible skill. Toolbelt skill Throw Vine can be used as interrupt though.
Grasping Vines is a bit more useful with a very long immobilise and a nice 2 sec block on toolbelt, but it only works against one opponent and has a huge 45 sec cooldown for both skills.
Take root is great for solo or when you want more dps than support. 3 sec invulnerability is fantastic, and with 5 Seed Turrets you can apply quite a lot of bleed. However they have low health and disappear after 30 seconds so it is fairly temporary.
Seed Turrets are not affected by Metal Plating trait. Don’t know about other turret traits.
I actually find the mastiff to be a nice distraction while i bring on the hurt via kits. a walking plant with a flamethrower, quite the mobile paradox
My first character in GW2 who is still my favorite is a Sylvari engineer. I have a lot of fun playing him, but the Sylvari racials are pretty subpar.
If you want to pick an Engineer race for the ‘power’ of their racials, Charr and Asura by far have the best racials for an engineer (primarily from the toolbelt version of their racial utilities) but if you just want an awesome race you need to (bias!) pick Sylvari.
Also a Sylvari (tree!) with a flamethrower is just hilarious…
I think it is silly to go Engineer with Sylvari. They are plant people who are one with nature. Why would they be industrializing, especially if the whole race is only 25 years old.
My engineer is Sylvari and my Norn is a mesmer because I got tired of stereotypes in fantasy settings.

In a word; yes. I had one for a wee bit. I have a Charr engineer main and wanted to know what sylvari engi was like. I got to about level 25 before realizing I wasn’t going to get anything spectacularly new compared to my first. I doubt, however, that choosing sylvari is a lesser choice then the other races available. All of them offer a lil something.

I have a sylvari engineer and for my special I have take root it is awesome! The skill is soo cool especially if your a turret freak, it gives you that I’m a sylvari engineer and it is perfectly natural feel.
