Q:
Is The Grove the Detroit of Tyria?
A:
The Grove is the most beautiful city in my opinion, especially at night. Having lots of non-Sylvari running around it would only ruin the atmosphere, in my opinion.
“Fleshbags out! Keep the Grove pure!”
No it can’t be Detroit.
It is actually prettier.
None of the racial cities have much traffic besides maybe Divinity’s Reach. And that may only be on my particular server (I’m on Tarnished Coast, the unofficial RP server) because there’s a lot of RP’ing that goes in in Divinity’s Reach, it may be as dead as the other racial cities on other servers.
There’s little incentive to go to the racial cities beyond getting racial armor, when Lion’s Arch is a more central location, is easily accessible through the Mists (and acts as the central hub to get to other areas), has the Mystic Forge, has its own dungeon, has jumping puzzles, becomes a central location for the personal story later in the game, is usually the center of events, ect.

ha! i totally agree, and was hoping someone would say that.
that said, my other characters are human, so i guess i haven’t spent much time in other cities, either. it’s a shame, too, because i really like The Grove.
Detroit is the third world state of the US. Quality of life there is almost Iraq levels.
It’s cuz Anet traffics everyone to Lion’s Arch. The Grove is my favorite city and has THE BEST layout for crafting.
As mentioned, all the emphasis has (unfortunately) been on Lion’s Arch. Divinity’s Reach is somewhat populated, probably because we are humans and because Queensdale is one of the most popular zones in the game.

I actually use The Grove instead of Lion’s Arch due to the close proximity between the Bank/Crafting and Trade Post. It’s also fairly convenient that it loads fast.
I just wish I didn’t have to pay a waypoint fee…
On Boralis Pass, I’ve actually been seeing a lot of activity in Black Citadel. Though lately The only racial cities I’ve spent any time in are Black Citadel and Hoelbrak, I went through all of them before my hiatus. I’d say that the order of player activity was as follows:
1. Divinity’s Reach
2. Black Citadel
3. Hoelbrak
4. The Grove
5. Rata Sum
So yeah, The Grove is generally among the slowest racial capitals.
Every MMO with a “hub” will see most players flock to it ASAP. It certainly doesn’t help that Anet is pushing people there for all the Living Story content, either.

Nope, I’m staying.
Some of the Sylvari are cute.
So HA! :P
lol
Have you ever actually spent a night in Detroit? I did over a decade ago with bars on the motel window and I really did hear a few gunshots during the night.

We get drivebys where I live on a regular basis. You get used to gunshots after a while.
I have worried about my laptop when I have to roll to the floor, though.
