Why can I not see shoulder armor pieces equipped with the Orchid chest piece? Removing my Orchid shoulder armor has no effect on my character’s armor appearance, and I have to remove my chest armor entirely to see any other shoulder pieces equipped. I can’t even preview Light shoulder pieces for the same reason.

The Orchid shoulders, when equipped without the chest piece, are clearly made up of only the top two long leaf blades and one smaller leaf blade on the upper arm. Why can’t these three blades be removed when the chest is worn?

I’m very, very happy with my Sylvari’s appearance, and I want to continue to wear the Orchid armor set, but I also want to be able to change up my shoulder pieces if the mood strikes me. As an example, I very much want to wear the new Toxic Mantle shoulder armor, but simply can’t because of what appears to be a major bug with this armor set.

Has anyone at Anet addressed this problem? I’ve looked around the forum and only found one mention of this issue with no replies.

Its not a bug, its intended behavior. Some armors hide shoulder armor. If you mouse over your shoulder armor while wearing the Orchid coat, you’ll even see it adds a little “This item is currently obscured by another” blurb to the description. There are a handful of other sets that do this as well.

As for why its intended behavior, and they didn’t just put those parts on the shoulder armor (and not the coat) and allow you to remove them as normal… perhaps they felt that those parts were too central to the armor appearance to allow them to be removed. Or perhaps there are holes in the model or some other technical aspect that requires those parts be present at all times.

This is intended?
