Its such a cool name!
Very beautiful and yet sort of mysterious and dark, which fits your beautiful sylvari perfectly!
My Sylvari here’s named Aerwyna Nereyda which means “Friend of Sea” and “Sea Nymph”.
She’s an elementalist, and as you surely can guese, water is the element she feels most in touch with!
8/10
Cool username, goes with picture quite well! You kinda remind me of a little smurf—cute!
I just made a male elementalist, Arundo Verosa. (scientific name for reed + something else…)
9/10
I really like plant names, I think it’s intelligent.
My ele is called Helygen Deilio, it’s Welsh for Willow Leaf, although I suspect it should mutate to Teilio maybe? Welsh is very much my second language, I’m from Pembrokeshire where most people speak English.
9/10
Nice name and logic put into your name i’d love to see a picture
My ranger is “Bloodrose Lunaria”. The first name set her body/hair color scheme, green skin and blood red color for her hair leaves. Lunaria was for “Lunar” since she was born during the night cycle.
8/10
I think it’s an interesting name with a nice ring to it. Also well paired with your character’s looks which is nice, despite it not following general Sylvari naming conventions
Ok, here we go:
My main is an elementalist called “Cioradh”, which comes from the irish gaelic word for spirit, “spiorad”.
Also have a female necromancer named “Maemrin”. I guess you could say that I drew inspiration from the irish word for maple, “mailp”, but then changed it up quite a lot just because it sounded better in my opinion. To be fair there’s not much left of the original word
(edited by Zephyr.8564)
7/10 for Cioradh
9/10 for Maemrin, I like that one. Sounds good.
Mine are Barley Jack (ranger)
And Paetunia (thief)
6/10 for Barley Jack, sounds nice not super special imo
8/10 Paetunia is pretty cool! And the alternate spelling makes it look pretty.
I had a necro sylvari named Natus Ex Betulis which is google translate-Latin for Born of a Birch (she was pale)
8/10 Clever—I like it
Mine:
Just for fun…. Scarlet Briar (with an accent on the c)
If it was your original name: 9/10
Because it is stolen: 2/10
Mine: Eruinn
Argyreia, my mesmer.
Decided the name based on rules:
- single name (as per sylvari lore)
- starts with ‘A’ (personal rule, most of my chars do)
- must be a plant name
- has hallucinogenic properties (as she’s mesmer)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argyreia
Eruinn: 9/10 nice one
(edited by Arianhod.3485)
7/10, it’s kind of exotic and I prefer single names!
Mine’s Kallyah, a sylvari elementalist so white she blinds everyone around whenever the sun touches her… skin?
PS.: No rules for the name, I just prefer single names.
Paetunia is a 10/10
as is Argyreia
necrodendron , in case you can’t guess by the name alone , is my sylvari necromancer .
adapted from ; Rhododendron (from Ancient Greek ????? rhódon “rose” and ??????? déndron “tree”
i was really looking for a name with something to do with or related in some way to poison ivy , but all the ones i could think up were already taken.
Edit: woops forgot to rate
I really like Necrodendron it’s very clever! 10/10
Mine is Theia Fernleaf, I really wanted the name Theia because it’s the name of our moon and I just really like the moon but I didn’t want to call her Lunasomething and Fernleaf because Theia was already taken and Fenleaf… is planty XD
I recently out-leveled that pretty armor I really like that look though so I might use it again at max level (I’m stingy with charges)
(edited by Mazzy.3176)
7/10, pre cool name
I have a Sylvari Ranger named Anax Majik
Anax meaning King [along the lines of] in ancient greek and instead of doing Magic I went with Majik.
Nearly level 80 as well
9/10 I love different language and spelling use!
My elementalist is called Valresti. The r and l are like a rolled d sound… kind of like a japanese r.
9/10 I love different language and spelling use!
My elementalist is called Valresti. The r and l are like a rolled d sound… kind of like a japanese r.
10/10
I love it. It sounds very regal and I do like how the ‘rolled d’ sound rolls off the tongue.
I have two:
Eirilysse [Elem] – my attempt at following the Sylvari naming convention, a modification of Eirlys (welsh. “snowdrop” —one of my favorite flowers), since somebody already took the other variations.
Yuureibana [Mes] – something I settled for after failing to find a Welsh/Celtic name for Lycoris radiata. It’s also one of my favorite flowers. Yuureibana (tr: ‘Ghost flower’) is one of the numerous nicknames given to the Red Spider Lily by the Japanese, in connection to the legends surrounding this flower. Needless to say, my mesmer looks a bit like a ghost: black eyes, white skin and hair, thin body. (no screenshots yet because she’s just a few days old).

10/10
9/10 – just because it’s somewhat confusing to look at.
I love the thought you put in, and they sound like they fit your Sylvari perfectly!
I have three! (sorry not sorry) And they’re all female, for the record.
Vernula [Ele]
Taylene [Guard]
Ishilin [Thief]
8/10. Taylene especially sounds like the sorts of names we see on NPCs.
My only Sylvari is a burst thief called Thy Leafy Doom
6/10, I don’t usually like names that aren’t namelike and it makes me wonder if a human would be named Thy Fleshy Doom.
(……wait a minute…. band name!)
My Sylvari necromancer is Xiliane, and my guardian is Mirrorbark.
10/10 on first name. I like the single words and an X either at the beginning or end of a name. Mirrorbark is cute, but 7/10 for two words put together.
Named mine Kyusinx because she’s my first characters and it’s the unique name I use in all MMOs
10/10 Just rolls off the tongue.
Belladonna Napellus : Female Necromancer
Named after Deadly Nightshade {Atropa belladonna or Atropa bella-donna, commonly known as Belladonna or Deadly Nightshade}
And Monkshood {Aconitum napellus (monkshood, aconite, wolfsbane, fuzi, monk’s blood)}
Lady Alexis Hawk – Main – Necromancer
Ravion Hawk – Warrior
Belladonna Napellus: 9/10 sounds really cool and I like the meaning of it
My sylvari ranger: Azeral Styx
Her real name is Azeral, but since she is part of the Styx clan (which holds members of other races aswell) she’s called Azeral Styx. She’s also the founder of the Styx clan.
(edited by Styx.8537)
10/10 I love how it sounds.
My sylvari mesmer name is : Saint Kara (“Kara (Turkish)” means black in english)
My name is Xeia! <33 She is so pretty. n___n
(Saint Kara is nice sounding, I like that you used Turkish! )
While I’m not sure if the X is pronounced ecks like in xavier or z as in xena I like both ways though so props. 8/10
I went for the comedy name, but later found myself trying to roleplay a solid reason behind it. His name is Climbable Fungus as he has the mushroom hat/head.
6/10
Not keen on ‘fungus’ but I like the concept and it suits a Sylvari c:
I have a dark, thorny haired female necromancer called Monik Spire.
6/10 the name sounds okay for the description you gave.
Mine are
Divya Devi, an Elementalist. Her name means Divine, or Heavenly Goddess.
Maahi, a Guardian. Her name means several things: The great Earth-Goddess, when a girl is named, or Lover when a guy is named. Intended due to not “really having a gender” and the love of a Sylvari being so deep and passionate beyond genders.
6/10, I like the name Divya.
Mine is pretty bad, my Sylvari is the first character I ever made when I was a noob to the entire game, so I didn’t even think to give it some creative nature type of name. She’s red/white, so I named her Vermilion Frost.
Vermillion Frost is..interesting. 6/10 for me, because to me it sounds more like a title than a name.
Four of my five characters are Sylvari, but at the moment I’m only playing the eldest and youngest.
First is Cyadni, a Tier 1 asset with the Order of Whispers for infiltration and assassination. Kicking in the door with her two pistols, or dragging a foe down with her knives, she’s high speed death from any direction.
“One strike is all I need.”
Second is my newest, Vadoni, She’s a fiery little whip of a lass that swings a hammer as long as she is tall, when she’s not raining blazing death on her foes with her longbow. She’s as subtle as her sledgehammer and likes it that way.
“You. Me. Bushes. Lets have some fun before we go wreck someone’s day, ya?”
(edited by Highlord.7158)
7/10 Cyadni. It sounds Sylvari, and yet a little not Sylvari.
10/10 Vodani. It sounds spot on to me.
I have two.
Ceara Bramble. The reincarnated spirit of Scarlet trying to make for her past lifes deeds.
Freyr Treewalker. His Wyld Hunt is to guide Ceara so she doesnt end up like Scarlet.
Ceara Bramble 80 sylvari engineer.
Freyr Treewalker 80 sylvari ranger.
Ceara Bramble: Interesting, if a bit un-original (i’ve seen several such ceara/scarlets running around already) 7/10
Freyr Treewalker: Also interesting. nice that you linked them together. 8/10
Mine is more hopeful than loreful. Glenn Airgetlam – a guardian who has dedicated himself as a knight of fair justice – to make sure as many people as possible are happy.
7/10. I like the last name a lot. Only gave a 7 because Sylvari tend not to have last names…
Mine’s Sephareal…tried to go with something Celtic or Welsh sounding since apparently Sylvari have usually these types of names.
7/10 as it sounds like something taken direct from FF and then just tweaked a tiny bit. My two Sylvari are Caroine (necromancer) and Rayne Fahl (thief)
Caroine 9/10 excellent name, Rayne Fahl 6/10, a bit disappointing, doesn’t sound very sylvari like!
Male Elementalist: Culun Redleaf
Culun Redleaf Love it actually, reminds me of cumin 8/10
Sylvari Elementalist: Aidan “the Firemind”
I actually like the name 7/10. would give 10/10 if you could actually put quotations in ign’s.
My sylvari’s are Death Sumac(Necro) and….. don’t laugh at me, ….Monk of Mordremoth(Guardian).
I give both a 7/10
Mine is Lhingron, meaning spider. Will be thief.
(edited by drkonus.5084)
There are many choices when considering a name for a humanoid plant, some names are actually quiet creative, I have read that some players have thoughts of using a form of Welsh names or using names from elvish lore.
My characters names are:
Vandei a Ranger
Aenn a Mesmer
Nat a Warrior
7/10 for all three of your names.
My Sylvari Ranger is named Craolgair. It’s a combination of the Gaelic words Croabh (tree) and Sealgair (Hunter)
So like a tree hunter. Sounds pretty cool to me, but it could prove quite difficult to pronounce so 8/10
My elementalist is called Leothian
7/10, That’s pretty good, but it seems… Guardian to me.
My thief is named Amras. Somewhat uncreative, I know.
I like it. Simple, but still sounds like a Sylvari name. 8/10
My thief is Triasch. I will admit to ripping it straight out of BattleTech, from Clan Steel Viper’s Triasch Keshik.
9/10
Great name sounds very Sylvarily (that’s a real word); very thiefish too.
My warrior = Matauik
7/10
I guess I like the sound of it (is it ma-tau-ik or ma-ta-uik by the way?), but that’s pretty much it. I would have never guessed that it’s a sylvari name, however. But then again, if all sylvari would have to stick to gaelic names, it would turn boring quick.
My sylvari mesmer is called Ceilidh Nightsong. The Nightsong is not her last name, but more of a title/nickname, really.
Cèilidh means “visit, visiting”, in some cases I’ve seen that it’s supposed to even mean pilgrimage. Nowadays, a ceilidh describes a social event of sorts, with dancing etc.
I kind of like the duality of the name, since in my mind sylvari are still very alien to Tyria, so they are somehow similar to simple visitors. Moreover, they are usually quite an optimistic, merry people, so being associated with a “party” also fits.
9/10
I REALLY like how you put thought into it and the race as a whole. Really well done and creative! The second part of the name is the only reason I felt a bit iffy (at a 9), just didn’t feel like it fit with how well thought out the first name was.
My Sylvari Guardian is: Rainin Direheart
I don’t really want to go into much explanations other than Rainin has been a name I’ve used for a long time when naming my main characters and it felt a little fitting of the race and the class. Direheart has a lot to do with my personification into this character..
8/10
It’s Rainin’ Direhearts, hallelujah! Jokes aside it’s a nice enough name, the Rainin to me sounds like it would fit well enough with the whole Guardian theme, but I’m somewhat iffy on the Direheart bit; still a nice enough name though!
As fern my own name, it’s Nelle Borus; not very imaginative, I know, but the several I tried were taken!
Necromancy is her calling… I tried to give her a wintery theme, name included, ah well.
I don’t know, I like it myself ;o 8/10
Acacia Celestina. Celestina is a last name I use for all my characters to make them easy to identify so yeah.
7/10 Nothing wrong with the last name, and the first name sounds untypical but probably popular anyway.
Lol. My Sylvari Mesmer is named Mirage Iboga.
:P Yes, its lore related, and no, I don’t care that its not Welsh.
Tarnished Coast Server
7/10
I remember the Iboga, very fitting. Maybe with the releasing of more maguuma maps, some maguuma/jungle themed hair and face options may come up for sale, and you could really pull off the Iboga look.
I have two sylvari, they’re twins.
Vaellen – Elementalist
Veallan – Warrior
