8/10 Cool backstory relating to the name.
Valder Malgus, a proud elementalist studying the magic of Primordus to imbue his fire magic and obliterate his foes. The name is a mixture of Magus and Malus, meaning magical and evil respectively. Valder just means very.
Cool name and bio to your Sylvari character!
8/10
Here’s my Sylvari warriors:
Willow Turquoise, a sneaky thief with beautiful leafs to hide her identity.
Lwyn Tourmaline, my main Sylvari character, lovely as we speek, she’s amazed with posion and condition with archery.
Galadriel Tanzanite, a beautiful elementalist Sylvari who love to use her elements power against her enemies!
Ivy Chrysocolla, the newest member in my Sylvari gang, she may look beautiful with her flowers and leafs, but she is indeed dangerous as she cast dark magic of her class, Necromancer.
Oak Lips, a fine brave Sylvari warrior who defend every Sylvari-friend she may find in her adventure!
Cindy Diamond, her loyalty to the Sylvari race is indeed her task to help and protect, whatever she might bump into, she has to protect everyone at all cost!
I smell a trend there! heh. 7/10’s with a personal fave of Oak Lips!
I went all out traditionalist with mine: Ghwain
first name only (one family so no surnames) and a nod to the Celts and Arthurian style legend of a certain Green Knight.
Edit: sorry AdziH!
Good inspiration, especially if you made ??a Warrior ou a Guardian (in green) 8/10
The Pale Tree awakened me during the Cycle of Noon, in a clear day, where only the great sun shining brightly over Tyria.
I’m Bánghrian, from Irish “bán”, that means “Sun”, and “ghrian”, that means “White”.

didn’t rate mine first
Kentigem
Its Irish Gaelic for chief.
Learn as much mending and medical info as possible so that it can be added to the Dream.
Become the first Chief of Mending and guide the newly awaken as well as those who want to learn.
hrmm 9/10 for me.
I have two Sylvari
Cerynitian my female guardian
Firstborn Una my female thief
Cerynitian I like a lot, does it have a meaning? 8/10 for the sound of it
Firstborn Una… mhh, sounds good but with high expectations right? 8/10.
Mine is an Elementalist called Triallair, it means “traveller” in Gaelic, I’m really into lore names….
9/10 – ‘Triallair’ shortens nicely to ‘Trial’ if somebody wants to address you quickly, and is aesthetically pleasing to write what with all the vertical lines. If you remove the first letter, it’s also nicely symmetrical (same spelling forwards as backwards). I like that you’ve got a proper meaning for it in Gaelic, and that it conforms to the Sylvari naming pattern of having two vowels next to each other.
My Sylvari thief is named “Lithrael Drosera”.
As a GW1 player I like to always have a last name, even if it isn’t something that’s done in-lore for this race. I don’t recall where the first name comes from, but I’ve just always used it for elves and druids since my days playing ADOM. ‘Drosera’ is a type of plant known for using traps and in some cases poisons.
9/10
I appreciate the originality and like that a part of the name relates to plants, which mine does not.
My second Ranger is named Lumina Wild. The name has no real meaning behind it other than flowing nicely. I’d have preferred to give her a singular name without a surname, but I couldn’t come up with anything that wasn’t already taken. Still, I’m satisfied with what I settled on.
Champion: Phantom, Hunter, Legionnaire, Genius
WvW rank: Diamond Colonel | Maguuma
8/10
Do not really like “wild” at the end, sounds kind of cheap, but Lumina reminded me of one city from .hack games nad i like it.
My female warrior is named Maaya Moto, its shorten version of my favourite singer’s name – Sakamoto Maaya, and i think name Maaya fits sylvari really nice.
I like Maaya a lot, but the Moto part makes me think too much of the SAB character.
I’ll go 9/10 for Maaya,
7/10 for Maaya Moto.
… sorry =/
My female Sylvari Mesmer has received a make over and was renamed after the start of the second season LS.
In my personal story for her, she was touched and changed by the pulse through the Leyline that Scarlet set off while travelling in Brisban Wildlands.
She has since been renamed Leyliana, which is of course a contraction of Leyline and Liana and obviously wields leyline weapons
9/10 I like the back story and your gear choices Leyliana and Liana fusion is nice wondering if their was any back story for your original Sylvari Liana
My Sylvari is called Alara Uniden
Based on the mytholigical plant creature the Alraune
Alraune / Alra Une / Alara Une / Alara Uniden
Maxed charmed and Uniden for a more realistic last name like the horror movies based on the Alraune and the media characters based on the thing like Alura Une’s in Castlevania or Poison Ivy in Batman and Alraune’s in other media Alara fits the stereotype.
7/10 but only because the cordless phones in my house were manufactured by Uniden
I have two sylvari
- Aneirin, a male ranger
- Arianell, a female elementalist
6.5/10 for first name, seems a little bland.
8.5/10 for second name, sounds like a striking and assertive sylvari.
Mine’s a male elementalist, Caaaaptain Plaaanet!
Blue skin. Green leafy hair.
7.5/10 for lack of originality, but awesome unique reference with leafy plant guy =)
Najjynn, Male Sylvari Guardian
7/10 a bit of extra letters in my opinion, if conjuncted like that. Nice flow of words, like the sound(s) of it
My male Sylvari Ranger: Alverym (Alvern meaning spring, green fields, coming of spring, Termination Rym for child. Child of the spring yay)
9/10, it sounds fitting for a Cycle of Dawn sylvari
Mine is Cledwen
From the welsh “caled” (arduous, austere, dry, hard, harsh severe) and “Gwen/gwyn” (white, fair, blessed)
His glow/pattern color is white and his demeanor as a soldier fits the rest.
Behold
Dashea The necromancer known as “Baelfire”
^for some reason it wont let me type her name without turning it into the word kitten..switch the E with an I
8/10 for Cledwen, I enjoy the thought process of the name and it give sthe visual of a soldier.. however the stigma of Sylvari not taking titles or nicknames is a little silly.
We’ve killed dragons folks, destroyed hordes of undead and hundreds of more unfathomable deeds. EMBRACE IT!
(edited by Shotzo.6209)
9/10 for “Dashea”, it sounds appropriate without being cheesy.
Mine is named Ruaun (pronounced roo-AHN), named after the Ru’Aun Gardens, a magical sky temple/garden from a certain other MMO. Seemed appropriately planty, and the name felt sylvari-ish to me, or as much as I could make it without a clear lore style guide. XD
idk how to rate names, i always feel too generous
i made a skulkingly large sylvari, shaped and colored, and named Gréwt.
and he’s a guardian
:D
(woulda done a better name, but there’s probably some stupid kid that has 20 different accent spellings of his name just to be a douchbag)
7/10 but idk how to spell this name… Sorry
So, my Sylvari is Mesmer and shes wake in Cycle of Night. Her name is Luxorris.
Lux (Light) + Orr (Kingdom of Orr) + is (thats means nothing)
A 8 of 10 For Luxorris. The light of Orr? I like the idea. Would love to hear more about her.
My sylvari is an elementalist and heavily set up as a healer. Her name is Sanf.
I meant to put San Fauo which is bad latin for ‘Dips in blood’ but I hit enter too early. I liked the simplicity of her name and kept it.
9/10 for Sanf, really elegant and simple !
My two female Sylvari :
- Gwenwyn (poison in Welsh), a dreamthistle geared ranger
- Gyrwynt (tornado in Welsh), an elementalist
8/10 for both; fitting concepts.
i have 3 sylvari because i think they’re rad.
durhyn, the thief. a lightbringer with the order of whispers, durhyn’s wyld hunt is to gather powerful allies to fight the dragons with. the fact that he’s kind of a jerk but still assigned as a whispers liaison to the pact make his job somewhat difficult.
idsin, the warrior. an explorer with the priory, seeking a ritual to unbind a dark blade he has been cursed to carry.
vaers, the engineer. studied with charr and asuran engineers before joining the vigil as a combat engineer. i changed his face after the end of LS season 1 to reflect the idea that the battle with Scarlet left his face heavily scarred; probably my current favourite.
Like the thief name and the engineer, though warrior name sounds, in my ears, as a combinations of “ID” and “sin”…Which is a kinda weird combi…
Anyways, my only serious character now is Anyori, Mesmer of the order of whispers, shrouded in secrecy, never showing his face, unless you know me, or when you’re about to die.
“Anyori” 9/10, simple and cool name!
I just create my new ranger sylvari, his name is Ewen. I still not sure about his name though… What you guys think?
I know a creepy dude named Owen. I call him Ewwwwen next time I log in.
Ska Roots – I’m a reggae fan and my character is a living plant person, so…
8/10 i cant say i know much about reggae but its not a terrible name in and of itself
i have a fairly young sylvari mesmer name Ukakuja
his name is a combination of two words the first being ukaku which means shining feather and kakuja which means shining one
My last alternate to 80 (thanks to the new levelling system), my Sylvari Ele :
Bubbles Fizzlepop
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
6/10. Cute, but it sounds more like a Charr name, and even that’s a stretch.
I have three:
Gellain, female Thief
Rian Sunspear, male Guardian
Feanwan, female Warrior
gellain 7/10 i think that ones a bit human sounding but its a nice name
rian 9/10 i really like this one! it definitly feels fir for a gaurdian
feanwan 8/10 i like this one two its very original, i cant say i’ve seen much like it!
reposting because i got skipped -n-
i have a fairly young sylvari mesmer name Ukakuja
his name is a combination of two words the first being ukaku which means shining feather and kakuja which means shining one
7/10 You clearly put a lot of thought into it, but it doesn’t quite fit the Celtic theme the Sylvari have going.
6/10. Cute, but it sounds more like a Charr name, and even that’s a stretch.
Or I could rip off real world cultural names from gaelic, norse, etc. Nah.
It sounds like what it is, a fairy name.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
I have 3 Sylvari.
Soshi O Path – Necromancer with the Whispers
Psych O Cherry – Warrior with the Priory
Frosty Nightmare – Ranger with the Vigil
League of Omnipotents [Omni], Fort Aspenwood
10/10 because they’re funny ^^ (but not so sylvari names, it could be 5/10 because of it but… I like theese word jokes)
I have one sylvari, a ranger with the Order of Whispers, called Synevra.
because it’s not my mother language.
If you can correct me then do it :3
8.5/10, because it sounds very relevant to gw2 lore
I have a female sylvari engineer called “Áine of the Grove”. Áine means radiance/brilliance because among those born during the cycle of noon, she stands out as a technical geek, almost to the level of Ceara. The ‘of the Grove’ part is because in the engineer academy there is a human female student called Áine as well :p
10/10 for the investment
My slyvari warrior is named “Dry Leaves”
Coz if u step on dry leaves it will make a lot of noise!
8/10 not bad, though I get the feeling it might work as a nickname than an actual name.
In case mine need repeating:
Gellain
Rian Sunspear
Feanwan
Hm Gellain could work for a Sylvari 7/10, thou the second name is human to me and the third i cant decide.
My male ranger sylvaris name doesnt realy fitt for one, thou i still like it alot and had to use it – Sephiroth Seraphims.
The second sylvari, a female necro, i named Atropine Belladonna. This one i gave a lot of thought. Atropine is a competitive muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist. It is a naturally occurring tropane alkaloid extracted from the deadly nightshade (Atropa belladonna), among a few other plants.
Thou i had to roll around with the words for the name before coming up with this, im satisfied anyhow.
Oh I totally love ‘’Atropine Belladonna’’!! definitelly 10/10 ^^
My mesmer sylvari is named Whistlers Nocturne… Maybe doesn’t fit so well and not that original since it’s named after the painting ‘’Nocturne in Black and Gold: The Falling Rocket’’ by the great James Whistler.
Edit: I’m trying to keep my char in the colours related to the painting too.
No.1 UNICORN EU!
Show No Mercy For We Have [NoNe]
(edited by BatsBite.5637)
Whistlers Nocturne might not be all that “sylvari” but extra points for being inspired by art I looked up the picture too and the colours seem well suited for a sylvari. And I think Nocturne by itself works well, even if it’s not gaelic or celtic in origin.
I’m afraid I’m a character junkie, so I have no less than 3 sylvari. Two of whom I deleted and replayed because I wasn’t happy with their first names o.O
Tamzyne – Mesmer (I had to find an alt spelling of tamzin which means twin, so it was just a given for a mesmer, plus my first name for the character, although entirely made up, started with Tam too)
Melsevi – Ranger (If I remember correctly it means strawberry syrup lol, I was just looking for “planty” words that would sound like a good name. She’s not even strawberry coloured.)
Caipín – Elementalist (Caipín means cap and she’s got the mushroom hat on plus toadstool colouring.)
8/10 across the board love the origins for the names
Saira – Sylvari Thief
Ventus – Sylvari Ele
8/10 for Saira! Love exotic names.
9/10 because I personally think it suits a an ele Sylvari
Engineer – Iris Parabellus
(edited by Luke.1402)
7/10 Iris is a great name, but the last name’s a mouthful, and Sylvari don’t generally have them anyway.
Just Made a darkish purple + red glow sylvari mesmer yesterday named:
Rulian The Phobetar.
Ru = Dream, Lian = Master, Phobetar = Freightening.
His rolyplay is a loner sylvari which made a name for himself as a trickster and monster in children’s stories. lol.
Smokin Muh Blunt Yo
yo you name be cool fo rizzles 7/10
Cannabissica
just had to give it up fo Smokin Muh Blunt Yo 9/10
9/10
If you’re going to reference marijuana, this seems like a better way to do it.
