Rate the sylvari name above yours!
8/10 Xixsa, like that name, but i think it would be a better fit on a Asura, still nice one.
Mine is (yet another alt to get to 80) a female war named Synaphei.
(edited by niavim.1842)
8/10 Synaphei. I really like it. Suits a warrior.
Mine is Oakenshot, an engineer.
6/10 Oakenshot: Not bad, but too blatant for Sylvari lore; their names tend to flow more and lack direct usage of English words.
My Sylvari Ranger’s name is Zallurin.
8/10
I don’t particularly like it, but it’s a sound Sylvari name.
Mine is Verithyll
Verithyll, not bad, it doesn’t break immersion and sounds nice. I could even see it being a NPC name. 8/10.
My engineer shares the name with my account, Tuomir. It’s an old name that I’ve used a lot, and since I couldn’t come up with another name after thinking through it for a long time before the beta, I just stuck with it.
I like it! 10/10
Why? Cause it’s kinda Nordic/northern European, which I appreciate.
Mine is Dialmarw (DYE’al-MAR’w(u)). It’s Welsh, and this is kinda hard to pronounce (and spell out phonetically). It’s a reverse of ‘marw dial’ which is Dying Leaf. It’s obviously a necromancer.
9/10 only because is hard to pronounce but vey nice :P
Mine is Athanri (necro) wich is an anagram of Arianth, the name of my main in GW1 and my human in GW2 (and the name I always choose in any mmorpg whenever is possible) and since my original idea was to have a Sylvari as a main in GW2 and I can’t use the name Arianth without adding a surname I just came with this (besides I don’t really wanted a Sylvari named Arianth, a name too human for my taste).

8/10 I love the name, and I applaud your loyalty to your other characters, but this IS a thread about Sylvari names and it seems slightly unrelated to lore or Sylvari culture thus the 8. Regardless, it’s a lovely name and gratz on getting a single name.
My male Mesmer’s name: Styx Hemlock
I wanted to cultivate a dangerous plant vibe with a touch of nightmare court. And of course “Styx” is both the river Styx in hades and also sounds like “sticks” for the tree connection. Hemlock, of course, a lethally poisonous plant.
It’s a great name 8/10.
My guardian is Khara Leafblade.
7.5/10 Khara Leafblade: Your first name is perfect but muddled by the plantlike last name.
Also, I prefer the singular name approach that goes along with Sylvari lore. My Mesmer is Kanarazu, which means “Without fail”.
9/10 to Kanarazu! That’s an awesome name with great meaning. ^^
My Sylvari’s name is Virgo. I stayed up till AM on launch day to get it. ^^ I don’t think it really fits in with the lore though, at least not from what I know…XD
Virgo sounds really nice 9/10 although the name immediaetly remembered me of Viggo Mortensen
My female Sylvari warrior is named Scaitha!
8/10 I like Scaitha. Suits warrior. Kinda like Scythe made all fancy!
Mine is Iriénys for my sylvari ranger.
(edited by Irie.7149)
^ didn’t know that you could use symbol characters (is that what it’s called?). 8/10 sounds elvish and flowery. Mine is a Mesmer named Poison Ivee
Engineer
Island of Janthir
2/10, sorry, but that’s horrible. It’s delightful in a way and I’m happy about it, but horribly so. Actually, if I look at your Mesmer as just Ivee and treat “Poison” as a nickname it’s more 6/10.
I’m Zestee, leafy thiefy shadow bleed kitty. Cuz cookies, pies, and kittens, rawr!
Ziffy Snidehide, Zadie Hawkkin, Zannie Oakley, Zuulja
[ODIN],[NaCl] – Tarnished Coast
6/10 Not common which I like, but not as creative as some of these other names.
Female mesmer Sylvari, Shyla Shylac.
Decent name above, 6/7 out of 10.
My necromancer is “Taigue”, Irish for poet. Death is the mother of beauty and all that.
10/10! Maybe a little biased but that’s one of my favoritest names ever.
My Sylvari mesmer is ‘Anais Palebloom’ .. with a color scheme that follows suit.
9/10 i like the name personally. i like names that tells characteristics
My Sylvari name is “Flasmyr” i want something original and has a uniqueness when it is heard.
8/10 I like Flasmyr
Had to wake up 8am at server head start just to get this name
Sylvari engineer: Drums
(edited by Dr Hashbrown.7104)
4/10 – the name “Drums” nearly killed the thread (Is there an inside joke related to your sig?)
Maybe I shouldn’t speak though, since my name butchers all the rules: Markatta Khara. “Markatta” because that’s the name I typically use for fast or stealthy fighters (the character is a thief), and “Khara” because “Markatta” by itself was taken (curse you, Skyrim forums!). It’s supposed to mean “cruel monkey” in Sanskrit but probably doesn’t…
5/10
Joined game 2-3 hours after launch didnt come up with a good name so I named my ranger “Selveri”.
Selveri 6/10 sounds like sylvari. But I know finding a name can be Hard. Mine is same as here “Robot Ears”.
Still better than ‘Cabbage Ears’, so 6/10
My cycle-of-night thief is called ‘Téadoir’, which means ‘gracious gift’ in Gaelic/Greek

9/10 – I do enjoy names with a lot of thought put into them.
Stylianos
7/10 – it doesn’t quite work as a Sylvari name for me, I tend to like more gaelic sounding names personally, but I like how unique it is and congratz on getting a single name!
My female guardian is called Rhyfelwen – its a corruption of the welsh word for warrior.
8/10 – Names strikes me as interesting if anything, like the meaning of it.
I have a Female Mesmer named Momo – meaning Peach Tree in japanese. I always like to think of my character as the sweet cousin of the pale tree = D
8/10. It’s creative…but I think of Momo from Avatar when I read or see that name.
My Sylvari Thief’s name is Shurumi. He’s a mushroom head.
As much as I dislike the mushroom head design the name is pretty good.
7/10 since its not just “Shroomy” but it lost some points since it seems kinda Asian to me.
Galen of The Dusk: Sylvari Engineer. Wears planty armor but also some techy armor. Loves explosions and fire and to others looks quite sadistic when hes playing with his flamethrower (which is a lot.)
Rahnuil of The Dawn: Guardian. Just started him and found an equivalent form of my grandfathers name Ronald and I liked it.
Proud player of Crusader, Arcanist,
Beastmaster, Shadowraider, and Shieldbearer Zakk!
Both sounding pretty elvish and I like the way they sound 9/10.
I had a warrior called Vegetable Slayer; deleted it by now because Sylvari didn’t seem my match :p
VEGETABLE SLAYER AT YOUR SERVICE!
LOL 8.5/10
I have a thief called minge devourer
I’ll suck volcanus for stability.
VEGETABLE SLAYER AT YOUR SERVICE!
LOL 8.5/10I have a thief called minge devourer
10/10. If only because I don’t know how that got through the filter.
Lt Mc Muffin and Foostivoo (destroyer of worlds) at your service
Don’t worry the games still in Beta.
I used to own Dyer Maker, an elementalist. Someday I deleted it for some reason and forgot to recreate. Give it back to me :’( , whoever took it.
10/10 for the Led Zep reference! too bad you lost it.
My Sylvari ranger is called Caoin which can mean ‘lament/mourn’ in Old Irish/Scottish Gaelic. Unfortunately, I spend far too much time on naming my characters since I study Linguistics so I just can’t help looking up the etymology of words and getting a bit geeky about it =P
10/10, follows that strong Sylvari trend of having two syllables. I give you bonus points for researching your name and understanding its roots. Plus, linguistics is something I’m definitely interested in.
Veri Ka, Elementalist of the Durmand Priory

Veri Ka, Elementalist of the Durmand Priory
10/10
I like it ;o Don’t really care if it sounds sylvari like, I just think it’s pretty XD
My mesmer is Acacia Celestina
Marselia, a sylvari elementalist who prefers the water attunement. it’s a play on Marsilea (water clovers)
(edited by Vuul.9715)
7/10. clever
Sylvari necro Vaniilya. Nothing else to say about it
Aurora Glade (Fun)
7/10, not bad name, but does not grab me as overly interesting
Xihuitl – mesmer. (T2 cultural armour coloured purples is just so mesmer its brilliant, faerie illusionist!)
6/10 – Not really sure how to pronounce it
Russell Sprout – Necro
[TCHU]
Gandara
8/10. Pretty good pun, got a chuckle out of me.
Mine are Rhisling (Mesmer) and Laftkranz (Necro).
Yak’s Bend
Is your necro german? Must be hard to pronounce your name in vent hehe
7 for mesmer and 8 for necro
Nythriel for my ranger.
9/10 Thoughtful and phonetically pleasing.
My Sylvari Necromancer: Witherius
Witherius 7/10. Definitely fitting for a necromancer.
My character is a Sylvari elementalist named Mancakes.
Turtlecakes
Funny name, but it doesn’t match the race or class. 7/10 for lulz.
My character is a Sylvari Mesmer named Amanitaro Muscario
(Named after the hallucinogenic mushroom, Amanita muscaria. Like the mushroom, my character is all white, with a red mushroom head)
8/10, I really like the idea, not so much the name.
Mine is a guardian sylvari named Càomhnóir, that means guardian/protector in Irish Gaelic.
well fitting then, 8/10.
“Aerrith” (yeah, “Aerith” was already taken…it is everytime in any game already taken -_-’)
not very original to name their chars like FFVII protagonists, i know, but ever since i’ve picked up my first MMO (RO), i’ve named all my chars like FFVII protagonists.
it’s originating from “Earth”. japanese people pronounced it “Earasú” – that was Aerith’ japanese name.
but since romaji always gets poorly translated…well…instead of a girl name “Earth”, we got “Aerith”.
sometimes, you gotta appreciate bad localization. :P
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
(edited by wauwi.9162)
Didn’t know the history of Aerith’s name; I give you props for that. I’ll give 8/10 for knowing the ins and outs of it.
Rem Galad: Sylvari Mesmer. It’s Sindarin (Tolkien’s elvish language) for ‘numerous reflections’. And as a nice bonus, Galad is an alternative spelling for ‘tree’.
8/10 I like it. A lot of thought put into it it seems like.
Shynari, a name to go with her looks. “Nari” meaning “Gentle one”.
