Hello fellow Sylvari!

I wanted to create an Elementalist as my main and I would need your help with his design. I would like it to be neutral, because I plan to have lots of different looking sets end game for different builds and stuff. Make sets themed by the elemental attunements and stuff. Really looking forward to it. Now, to be able to do that, I’d like to have a neutral looking Sylvari that can go with many different looks.

So: Which colour schemes would you recommend for this?
(Could you recommend any hairstyles and faces based on your opinions?)

In my experience, Sylvari are easier to work with if they are either pale or dark. The middle tones seem to be a bit more difficult. I would say a pale grey/beige/green color or a dark grey or green goes well with just about everything.

If you want to keep it neutral, you can choose no pattern and no glow, but personally, I think those two things make the Sylvari look stunning, so I would not go that far if it was my toon.

White glow looks decent with just about everything, but if you are absolutely sure there are certain colors you won’t wear, I would think you can be a bit more bold and maybe pick a glow color that would go well with the colors that you do like.
Same for the pattern.

My guardian is very neutral color wise. Dark grey skin – white hair, glow and pattern color. She can wear just about every color.
It is a very neutral look, and I made her that way, partially because I did not have a clear idea of what I wanted for her gear wise, and mainly because I wanted her to resemble frost on a winter’s night.

My mesmer on the other hand, initially had certain color limitations, when it came to weapons and dyes.

I recently changed her glow and pattern color just a little bit, which means she can use a greater variety of dyes now, but she is still more of a theme color wise. A theme I can tone up or down as I please.

If you don’t want it 100% neutral, maybe you could add a discreet theme in your Sylvaris’ pattern, skin color etc, representing some of the elements, but without overtaking completely.

As for faces. This is really a matter of taste. You can make it look very alien or you can make it more human looking. It really depends on what you prefer. (Also, do you plan to make a male or a female Sylvari?)
I tend to stick with the more human looking faces, but it is a matter of taste and I have seen many beautiful Sylvari characters with the more alien looking faces.

I have attached a picture of the mesmer so you can see what I mean by toning a theme up or down.

Full purple heaven vs. a more neutral look.
(Ignore the Skull Masque though. I just wanted to see how it looked like on her.)

Hmm, I tried to represent all 4 Elements in this.
Skin color for earth,
Glow for water,
Eyes for fire,
Hair for air.

What would you say about it? Anything I could change to make it better? Would it go with most combinations of armor in endgame?

I like his colors, and since you can dye your armor any way you want, I think the question you need to ask yourself is: Does it work with all the colors you have in mind?

I could see him look great in an air, earth and water themed armor set for sure, I am uncertain how the glow would work with a fire themed set.

If I were you (I always do this :P) I would do the initial story line quest and then teleport directly to heart of the mist and walk through the portal to Lions Arch. All the dungeon vendors are there, so you can try out a lot of endgame gear, search for dyes on the trading post and preview them as well.

It should give you a better idea of whether or not his glow is in conflict with dyes or weapons that you want for him. (The glow shows up a little bit, if you preview at night time.)

I think the skin tone is great and the white hair and fire eyes look awesome. The only thing I am not certain about is the glow, but it could work if you don’t mind a more dramatic look for a fire themed set.

I like him too and Reesha gives very good advice as always.
My only suggestion would be that you might want to take a look at swapping the glow with the eyes.
So that you have the bright blueish eyes and the firey glow- if you are so inclined

He looks great

Thanks Morrigan. <3
Firey glow would definitely be another option worth trying out.

I just realized, I don’t know if he has a pattern color?
If the glow creates too much of a contrast and limits your dye options, maybe that is something you could try to explore as well. With a pattern, you could still have all 4 elements represented, and the the choice of glow would only be a matter of choosing what goes best with everything else.

A pattern color, similar to his current glow, would most likely blend nicely with his skin color and be less dominant than the glow.

Just an idea.

Hmmm…. I went with a rather natural look on my Sylvari Mesmer (you can find her in the Show your Sylvari thread – I may repost her if you want me to).

I really like your idea. I went with blue eyes for my Mesmer to represent the water that would run through them. Green is her skin tone. I chose a green glow also.

But perhaps, what you could do is have the pattern and hair be red (think autumn leaves) and the glow be whitish for air (after all, plants do breathe out oxygen) with blue eyes (think a bright blue) and keep the skin tone.

Edit: When I think of elementalists, I think of them as a) flashy due to multiple elements, b) showing a distinct preference for one element (I themed my Asura Ele to water/air), or possibly (though rare) c) a more natural look

My Ele is very earth toned. Light brownish/green. Hair and armor is dark green/brown. Her favorite element is earth element so I use the brown headgear gem still and tier 3 cultural dyed to match her hair. Also has bright green eyes and bright green glow (I can’t see making bright eyes and glow a different color, in my opinion, since the glow both comes from within). Personally I probably went the tame typical route, but I don’t see many go with “natural” colors in terms of grass or basic plants.

I’ve seen a lot with bright colors and a mix. The good thing with an Ele is you can be really bright/colorful for the class, especially on a Sylvari. All depends on how you want to design it. If you are going the fire route you do have a bit of options with reds/oranges/yellows though. I’d say it would look less strange if you matched the eyes personally. All up to you though.

Hey everyone!
Thank you for all your dedicated help, it really means a lot to me!
Those are some nice suggestions you have. I think I’ll play around in character creation a bit and see which combination I like best. Thank you guys again for suggestions, and if you still have any you can of course still post ’em!

EDIT: Tried something else out, how do you like it? I already tried the autumn hair and pattern, I don’t quite like that, I like how this is lighter and less aggressive in color. Though I kinda miss the fire, except for the glow which you won’t always see.

Hmm – They all look good, but personally, I still like your first attempt the most.

It also depends if you still want your original idea to hold true?
If you still want him neutral looking, then it might be an idea to only hint the elements.

Another idea would be to maybe focus on one or two elements instead and add the rest through coloring of gear etc.

I attached some pictures to show what I mean.
First one is an attempt for water, but toned down a bit so it remains neutral. (That is only if you still want neutral though. As others have mentioned, an elementalist can get away with being colorful!) In the end, all that matters is that you create a character, that is exactly how you want.

The second one is an attempt on earth and water.

Third one is a picture of my very neutral guardian as I failed to post that earlier, when you asked for a neutral look.

Here’s another combination I tried with the autumn theme, really like the glow on this one:

I personally like this one… I really like the blue glow and he doesn’t look as fiery as with the red glow… The autumn hair isn’t that bright red, which is nice I love the eyes with it, also. As far as air goes… I know you didn’t like the autumn pattern, but maybe you’d like a more.. whitish pattern? To represent air? Since that is the one you are kinda missing. I like him how he is though if you aren’t going for representing all elements.

Thanks everyone for their further input!
@Reesha
I really like the idea and the look of a more subtle style, but I think I’ve decided on a more flashy, elements representing style.

@gamemaster
Thanks for those picks, they look really neat. Especially the last one, that looks awesome.

@Lorelei
Hmm, I tried making the pattern white, it kinda contradicts with the whole setup and I did not quite like it.

So my final try is this one, I decided on a new skin tone because the other one did not really represent earth. The hair again represents air, I like white hair. The blue pattern just looks nice on brown to me I like it. And the orange glow is for fire, together with the eyes. I took the orange glow because I want the glow on the cultural to be orange (wanna do a mix with the hellfire set later on hehe).

What I would reallyyy love to do though is something like the last pic of gamemaster: I always wanted to make a black Sylvari with red glow, looks sooo awesome. It’s just that I fear that might look more thievish and wouldn’t go with all the armor and dye combinations I want to do (incase they would be brighter colours).

That one I like. ^^
I think the darker skin tone suits him and the blue and orange blends in nicely.
If the armor combinations you have in mind still is the elements, then I think the darker skin tone actually makes it easier.
I think all the elements would work with this one quite nicely.

I don’t think he looks thievish at all either. I think the white hair softens it up just enough.

I really like that one. I like his earthen brown, tree-type feel I would say you got close to the black/red look with the brown/orange look, but it isn’t too obnoxious to go with different armor styles and colorings. The blue pattern works really well. Also, he is warmly glowing I like softer glows and I think this one fits that.. it isn’t a bright red. It’s striking but not crazy, if you will xD

I suppose you could always make a thief with that black/red pattern ;P But I think this one looks great for an ele.

Yeah, I like that one the most too. Went with the face from the black and red pic as well and I really like it.
Now I’m exploring everything with him and can’t wait to collect skins and dyes and make awesome combinations and try out new faces and hairstyles yaaay!
Thanks for all the help, I can get very indecisive so you guys really helped me out here!
