In my opinion Salyvari are lacking greatly in available hairstyles. I would personally like to see more long hair options for females & just more options for hair in general.

My question to Arena Net is, are you guys looking into more hairstyles for the Sylvari?

I think that every race lacks variety in different parts of character creation, so it’s basically balanced. Sylvari stole entire light spectrum of colors for themselves so they lack somewhere else.
And I think ANet is possibly going expand these options in expansion packs if people will really want them.

Well, I hope so! I’m also finding character creation lacking quite a bit.

I’d like to have dreads made out of vines.

I think it’s decent. It’s no Elder Scrolls, but still way way way better than WoW.
Plus, except adding things like new hairstyles and tattoos, I don’t think there’s much to improve. They could of course make Face Details editing more thorough, with more options, why not, but I’d rather not expand the existing ones.

For simple reason, now, even if you try really hard and go for all the extreme options your character still looks decent. If they expanded the scale too much, people would be able to create unspeakable monstrosities.

I don’t want to take people away their creativity, but some of the things you could create in Oblivion, or Aion… shudder

I agree that it would be awesome if ANet added more hairstyles for the Sylvari. I would love to see longer locks for the females, especially something with some flowers added into the hair.

I’ve always pondered why they sylvari didn’t have any kind of flowers or other accessories in their hair, eventhough they are the race that represents nature itself.

Vines and flowers are some good ideas. I was thinking the other day about this. What leaves can be their hair? I came up with Willow Tree and Fern. I giggled when I thought about pine leaves for hair – it’d be like a Porcupine :P

I’d like to see long, grasslike hair for males, too.

Well in the description of the Sylvari they are more tree like then plant like. Leaves for hair wood for bones, chlorophyll for blood (even tho thats more plant).

Have more flower parts doesn’t seem right to me since they literally are born of a tree.

For example cherry trees look quite magnificent when they are blossoming so the idea of having flowers as decoration in the hairstyles isn’t that far fetched.

I would love to see longer hairstyles of guys as well. I don’t believe we have any actual long hairstyles. But then again neither do the other races, humans I think have one long male hairstyle or so.

The character designer is lacking as a whole. It is very hard to get into my character when everything feels so preset, like I’m not even playing my own unique character. It’s not me, it’s just one of X number of preset designs for that race.

Of course that would be cool but it’s not going to happen. It’s such a small feature in comparison to the rest of the game that it wont have any focus on it. And really that’s a good thing that they’re hashing out the bigger problems rather than adding hair styles. I always say, if you don’t like your hair or face than find a helm that you do like

what does d3 have to do with character creation.. it has no customization .

I agree with the lack of hair for the sylvari specially the female ones. I really like the concept arts specially the one in the selection screen with the long hair but non can be found in the creation screen.

I agree. The majority of the female Sylvari hairstyles remind me of men’s hairstyles. Two of them are actually female—the ponytail and the LOTSA HAIR one which most NPCs have.

I ended up choosing the ponytail on mine so that my sylvari would feel like a female. Would be great if we could get long hair for female sylvari. The male hairstyles are great.

Although, as Sylvari both males and females can tweak their hair a little bit with some of the racial armor. I know that males and females can both get really long dreadlocks in the form of roots, and the male tier 2 cloth has spiked hair.

I myself agree however as I’ve already made my Sylvari it won’t do me much good if they add more hairstyles to this race unless they also allow us to change the way our character looks like they did in GW1

I don’t think anybody is asking for new customization options for right here and now. I’d like to see them in the future when the game is in more steady and stable state.

Medium and long hairstyles for both males and females would be awesome.

I agree, I really want to achieve the beautiful/poetic effect but it’s also quite difficult. I tried it with a male Sylvari with plum blossoms as my theme, turns out I got reactions from both ends of the spectrum. My RL friend was horrified, but a random stranger I met while exploring really liked it.

I wish we can have more species of plants/trees to tinker around with.

I agree, I would like more option and I would not even mind making my Mesmer again, seeing how it would not be hard to lvl it fast. I can also just keep my stuff in the bank. So when I get to the lvl needed, I can just take the items out. Only thing that would suck is the dyes ive gotten so far and will get.

Well so hope in a expansions they spread out all teh option a lot more.

And yes, I’d say more customization options are always welcome, but not a priority for me right now. In the future, that would be nice to see, though.

Thanks, really appreciate the compliment! I have no doubt more customization options will be available in the expansion packs, but I guess giving some ideas now is always better than when they have everything planned out later.

Hopefully Anet might give us longer hair options in the future. Weeping willows, long grasses, etc, are all possible!

Thank you! And I agree, there’s so much diversity in plant life, it would be severely limiting to the beauty of the Sylvari race with nothing but jungle trees and leaves. As Sylv mentions, weeping willows make for a great “hair” style, or even flowers. I can already picture a sylvari female with chrysanthemum for a “hair” style, such as below (I even drew an outline of her face, although I’m quite terrible at it, lol) :

I strongly agree with this, but for all races. I don’t really like many of the hairstyle options for any of them.. I like long hair with bangs in front, but pretty much all of the longer hairstyles have the hair pulled back into some stupid looking style.

As for sylvari, there were so many things they could have done with them, the possibilities are so open considering how many different types of plants (and even just trees) there are. To the person who said flowers were a bad idea: You must not get out much, there’s tons of different breeds of flowering trees. There’s also trees with berries, vines, etc.

While I don’t think its a “need to have” thing, because there are many other bug fixes in the works, it’s definitely something a lot of people would like to see (assuming they also add a stylist, because if everyone has filled their character slots and leveled up the characters already, there’s going to be a lot of sad people). Have to keep in mind that the design people and the bug fix people are probably different groups entirely, so having them work on them simultaneously isn’t that far fetched.
