Please help me try to understand because I cannot wrap my head around it…
Trahearne, a firstborn of the race built on life and appreciation of all things living is in fact a necromancer, a profession surrounding death. How does that make any sense, what am I missing here?

Sylvari don’t see death as bad (necromancers don’t, either), just something to learn about.

Necromancers, in my opinion, are more than that. In fact I’d argue that necromancers have a better understanding of life than anyone else.

Trehearne is not only one of the Firstborn- he is the very first of all the Sylvari.

His Wyld Hunt is to cleanse Orr- literally a nation of risen controlled by the Dragon of Undeath.

Being a Necro makes sense in that aspect, since he needs an understanding of how life and death works
Necro’s are not your stereotypical evil masters of undead hordes either.

It’s a thing in Tyria, not just for Sylvari, that necromancy isn’t sinister and dripping with evil. It’s just another type of energy use. Necromancers can heal as well as harm with their manipulation of blood and cold and poison. My human necromancer is a cheerful friendly sort who is just-plain-folks except she has trained for years in the study of “transition energy” ie that which comes from the moment of death. My sylvari necromancer is a daft scientist who studies decay and rot in the name of learning to combat it in case anyone ever inflicts root rot on the Pale Tree. She’s a bit monomaniacal on the subject, really.

All the skull and bones stuff available for outfits, and the Bloody Prince’s gear, well, that’s catering to modern Earth sensibilities as to necromancy, but it’s hardly required for a Tyrian.
