Sylvari do sleep, and they can eat both meat and vegetables. They drink, as other races do, and they get tipsy on alcoholic beverages. They gain enjoyment from sitting in the sunlight—and it invigorates them—but can’t live on it as plants do.

My sylvari likes bacon very much. She also likes chicken quite a bit. She makes some really good omnomberry bars.

Just in case everyone wants to know, the amount of energy that movement takes is tremendous compared to the daily requirements that a plant would have to spend to stay put. However, by becoming a plant people, they need far more energy than photosynthesis can create. Therefore, they need food just as the rest of society would need to. I know it is a fantasy game and fantasy mechanics, but I believe this idea would make the most sense.
It definatly makes sense and seems to be confirmed by A-Net. I’d guess they have plant parts similar to pitcher plants or venus fly traps that allow them to break down protein more rapidly than their RL “meat eaters”.

That’s what was said in an interview, that they had pitcher plant pouches for stomachs.

They eat all even meat. It was revealed in Edge of Destiny. They wondered that Cate eat a Moa. But yeah there are plants that eat flies. Silvary actualy love meat and beer. According to Cate at least.
Sylvari have to eat something, being able to move and think is going to take a lot of energy, more that can be provided by photosynthesis.
