Sylvari armor looks........odd
http://www.twitch.tv/disasterdrew
This is the reason I’m playing a light armor class on Sylvari. For some reason the Sylvari have huge wastes when armor is on them, even though they are less curvy than Humans. It makes no sense and almost all the medium/heavy armor looks like crap on them. Preview the Commando chest piece on your Sylvari, it looks like he has a wedding dress hanging off his butt. I just don’t understand why this is so.
I really hope its a bug and not the intended style cause the only heavy armor that looks any good on them is racial which is alright but…..

Light armor class doesn’t look any better…
This is the starter armor for my poor Ele guy, transformed into the HoM set.
It looks SO bad that I can’t play with him, until I have gathered enough money to buy the tier 2 cultural armor.
IMHO, Sylvari don’t have nearly enough plant looking armors (they have the grand total of FOUR, 3 cultural and 1 dungeon). At least make their starter armor fit their race, for god’s sake :/
Here’s a pic of him, see for yourself: http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/530427_257707117683891_1976015739_n.jpg
I don’t mind not having cultural armor but at least make the armor models look as good as they do on humans.
Luckily the tier 1 cultural heavy armor looks nice enough.

Just transmog racial.
I have to agree the beauty of the sylvari is lost wearing any armor but the cultural and a very few cloth pieces. I have an elementalist and a guardian but when previewing the heavy armor in the pvp locker for my guardian I really don’t even want to lvl her.
Bumping this because its still a problem and it needs to be fixed!!
http://www.twitch.tv/disasterdrew
It won’t be fixed.
The problem is just as bad on Charr. Most of them look like they beat up a human, took their clothes and then tried to stretch it over their much too large body.
The design team got lazy, they made every non-racial outfit for humans and then tried to morph it to match the other races and they did a pretty bad job of it on all except for maybe female norn.
As a Sylvari thief I rarely see this problem, however I do see clipping…another symptom of this issue.
I totally agree with this one. My amore is just floating on the body it’s to wierd! But i don’t like to play the humans…. please fix it! :P

I have to agree with everything said here.
The armor in GW2 is a far cry from what we had in GW1. In GW1, we had enough choices that we could not only customize our characters during character creation, but also throughout their careers, thanks to the variety of nice looking armor.
In GW2, we carefully craft our character’s appearance, and then we all get stuck wearing the same thing, even though it doesn’t look the same, or even right, on every character.
And, let’s not forget that most armor in GW2 requires, crafting, or grinding, in order to get it. Whereas in GW1, you go to the material vendor to get the mats, then to the armorsmith to buy it, so simple and grind free. (yeah, there were a few exceptions in GW1, Obsidian comes to mind.)
Guild Wars 1 had a lot of armor choices… after three expansions. In the initial release there were only four / five armor sets for each profession (8 / 10 if you count the 15k versions). I have no doubt that armor variety will increase as more content is released.
As for the way armor fits, I agree that some work needs to be done. The reason I switched to Sylvari is because of how poorly most armor fits on the Asura. Substance E hit the nail on the head by saying Charr look like they mugged a human and tried to wear their armor

Twilight Arbor heavy armor looks pretty amazing imo
Twilight Arbor armor is still basically Sylvari armor that is why it looks good on us :P I have to agree with this topic as well. I have a Sylvari Guardian and every armor except for TA and cultural ones just don’t fit on us :/
It’s true that the armor looks bad on the most characters…. but it’s especially wierd that it looks wierd on sylvari since that has the same stracture as a human!
I agree with this thread i think the sylvari need adjustments with how some armors work with them especially alot of shoulders and leggings >< I cannot my my thief because of this fact as someone mentioned above the commando armor looks like a dress on us males.
heres my warrior love the way T2 heavy looks on him mixed with a bit of heavy armor of HoM and vigil but its really all i can find to make a good looking set =/
Hasseo: Thief 80
Caex: Necro (Main) Power/Reaper
T3 female heavy helm is my favorite of the whole game. Making a female warrior sylvari just for that helm.
i manage to make my sylvari engineer decent looking ,those medium trench coats…..
Crystal Desert
this really needs to be fixed. i have alot of FAT days on my new sylvari :P and it does not make me feel like a pretty flower at all.
That made me laugh almost as much as the thread with the Sylvari crazy eyes. lol
Weird. My sylvari ele looks perfectly awesome. But maybe that’s just me.
I had to remake my Sylvari warrior (only at level 8 ) when I saw that she would end up with “clown shoes” for foot armor from the HoM set and that the shoulder armor was disproportionally huge on her thinking that I made her too tall. She was also having issues with “sinking” into the ground up to her ankles.
I made her shorter and it kinda fixed the “sinking,” but the armor scaling is still a problem and it is different depending on the armor. Some armor has “clown shoes,” some has dresses for leggings instead of a skirt, some have HUGE shoulders.
Hopefully they can fix this.

yea sylvari medium armor sucks….or maybe is all adventurer class armor idk the only one that looked semi okay on my sylvari male ranger was the order of the whispers armor…i got the lyssa armor set now and i look like a puffy space cowboy and it sucks….
Ponzu what armor is that?
Lyonrwar: Ranger 80 Lyonswrath: Mesmer 80
SoR :: Ethereal Guardians
Yes I was concerned about that… The “wedding dress effect” of medium armor for sylvari… I would like to make a sylvari ranger, but if the armor is looking too ugly… Please fix this, Anet… It cannot be a intended style… they don’t have that huge butts!
If they would look the same than they look on humans, it would be perfect. The medium armor coats look great on humans, but the butts on the sylvari…
This is my character with Lost Shores shoulders, the T3 head, the arms and chest from TA and the rest T2 dyed with natural colors so I look like a tree.
Must be for heavy armor, because medium armor looks fine on my thief
Must be for heavy armor, because medium armor looks fine on my thief
It’s cuz you’re a female char, which is the only way to get non-trenchcoats.

Actually, I found that this is one of the ONLY med armors that has non-trench coats, even on female…wtf
Yeah, I’m surprised so few people have brought this up. I wear heavy armor as a sylvari, but I look incredible. However, there are a ton of armor pieces, particularly Shoulder pieces, that do NOT fit sylvari. They are huge, Norn size. The armor that shows this off the most is the Koda, but its not the only armor style that’s been improperly fitted to the race.
Hopefully its fixed…soonish…
I think someone, probably myself if nobody else does it, will have to compile several pics of human vs sylvari in various armors to show the bugged out weirdness. Maybe that will at least get a dev response acknowledging that certain armors do not fit properly or scale down in size properly, and that they’re working on it.
Which is really all we’d need to hear to be happy.

I actually think the giant shoulders is a game-wide issue, nothing to do with armor being sized for Norns or anything.
I know quite a few of the shoulderpads on my Charr characters are ridiculously huge and don’t even fit the shoulders properly, they just kind of float off a bit. And they’re in Medium armor, not even heavy.
And while I don’t have a Norn character, I was looking around the Norn forum the other day and noticed a topic about cultural armor and how a few of the cultural shoulderpads are way too big.
I think its just a general thing where some of the shoulderpads need to be seriously looked at across the board. Or maybe its intentional that some shoulders are supposed to be massive, maybe someone likes that Rob Liefeld look :p

Looks like someone had to much photosynthesis today o___o

Oh? Well that’s actually good to hear, if its a wide spread problem, maybe it’ll actually be looked at.. At some point. This is probably a topic for the bug forum actually, just need a few comparison picks to go with it.
Ps: wasn’t really saying the armor was fitted for the norn race, was just saying my character looks like he’s wearing a Norma shoulder armor lol
Male medium trenchcoats are really poofy – that wedding dress effect. Super annoying, especially since sylvari models are “skinny humans looking sideways”. This should not be an issue. Bump for visibility.
my silvari looks fine tbh…
my silvari looks fine tbh…
Perhaps you were attempting to be funny. Just incase though, I’ll spell it out for you.
You’re wearing sylvari racial, it’s built for the sylvari.
Many armors that are not racial, do not fit the sylvari correctly, especially heavy armors.
Understand?
I’ve created a topic for this bug in the bug forum, please post your pics showing the issue there.
The topic has received developer attention in the bug forum. Please post your screen shots of the armor issues, along with the name of the armor.
Also, if you can get screen shots of the eye bug where sylvari eyes darken to black during the day, post them as well.

Nightmare armor looks absolutly fantastic. Shame that the sylvari glow affects it as well.
I think it just takes some creativity to really make a good set even if the named Medium top gives sylvari males hips that just wont quit for some reason.
