A boss without a guaranteed win scenario.
I hope all the dragons get this treatment because so far it is pretty awesome. Funny that failing feels better than winning because you know that when you finally win it will be that much better.
So you want others to not be able to participate because you want to show your kitten if you will beat it?
If all world events got this treatment I would simply start to ignore them.
World events are not where challenging content should be. It’s hardly bragworthy to luckily land on a server that beats him…
Endless Petrification Tonic
The problem is that it’s a world event. I love difficult content, but I found it more frustrating when you are depending on the average player to do well. It’s like doing a free-for-all 300 man raid with little communication.
You wrongfully assume that people are complaining about the difficulty, the problem is the difficulty in a free-for-all event. I hope it gets better when people learn the encounter, but you will always have that uncontrollable aspect of random people trying to work together.
If this is what the future holds, people will even start changing servers just to be on a “dragon kill” server :p
Granted, the Champion of Balthazar was pretty well up there. My problem with the boss fights is that with a decent player turnout, you could always kill the boss in just a few short minutes.
Content that cannot be beaten the first try is fantastic. Content that requires a little cooperation is more fantastic. Content that can’t simply be DPS’d to hell is even more fantastic than the last.
I don’t care if most of you can’t get him below 90%. This is one boss that you’ll be able to brag about once you finally beat him.
And I can’t wait until we do bring him down.
Thanks A-Net.
As long as they don’t pull a Square Enix and make a Pandemonium Warden or Absolute Virtue scenario, I agree with you. Thus far it doesn’t seem that’s the case. The time limit seems the biggest obstacle, and I am certain that by the end of the day we’ll collectively figure it out.
The fight should be decently difficult enough to keep the players busy but should also be enjoyable. I get that the fight right now is uncomfortable seeing as we’ve effectively been handed everything on a silver platter since launch (the Fire Elemental pre-nerf being a notable exception), it’s going to be good to get this down.

There is an insurance commercial that had the quote, “just because you’re a good driver, doesn’t mean everybody else is.”
Same applies to Open World bosses and Pick Up groups. You may have the best gear, and know the encounter inside out, but if the other people don’t, you’re going to be paying for it.
Tequatl in its new form is perfect raid content. It is not perfect Open World content.
Eventually it’s going to see
“My server sucks at Tequatl but X server is good at it, I’m going to guest/transfer there”
“Man nobody else is using food and potions, why should I waste my money on them?”
“Nobody else is using PVT gear, why should I buy it?”
“Tequatl fails most of the time and doesn’t drop decent stuff because all the good stuff has a low chance to drop. Why bother since he already failed 5 times today?”
Factor in the cost of food/potions/WP costs/Repairs/RNG loot table for account bound gear and let me know if he is worth it in the long run.
Sungam summed it up pretty darn well.
I am 100% in for high risk and high reward content but for the love of Dwayna make it instanced and 5 man.
Open world content will be very close to impossible even with multiple guilds running it to be effective.

At least give us more turrets, at present most of them are controlled by afk’ers…
I like this update. I don’t care about feeling as if I’ve achieved something etc. What I care about is story consistency. A dragon should be almost impossible to defeat. It was absurd when we all used to wait for teq and just DPS him down.

Arah storymode says hello. You afk for the whole final battle shooting at AFK elder dragon. Story consistency, right…
I just hope the reward is worth … the amount of rage there will be if people get blues and greens out of the chest…..
When people saw the preview of the new Tequatl, where a dev used cheats to bring down his health several times, there were already some red alerts. People immediately brought up the point that it was taking that many players way too long to take even an inch of the dragon’s health bar down. So how would smaller groups of players ever have a chance at defeating Tequatl? And that’s exactly what we got.
A hard boss is fine, if the fight is fun. But if a group of over 50 people is fighting a boss for 15 minutes, and they can hardly get him below 80% health, then there might be a slight issue.
Currently it seems like a boss without ANY win scenario.
