Commander Feature: Kick people off turrets
yes please!
Give commanders some powerz
i to like to steal turrets and just sit there using it on the mobs behind me.
i’ll have the honor of being the first one to tell you that people will go to great lengths to troll something and make it fail.
Tequatl is hard, but new players on turrets makes it literally impossible.
Spamming, “Everyone on turrets hit #2 when available please!” isn’t working.
Commanders are players in the community that are not new, have decided to become leaders and help others in WvW and PvE guilding people in champ runs and other content, and are perfect candidates for this suggested feature:
Enabling commanders to kick people off turrets.
It’s what a commander would do. Commanders are leaders, helpful, experienced, and know what they’re doing when it comes to GW2.
This would help.
No its just a 100g tag anyone can buy one and use it and that would make more trolls commanders to buy it and then trolls with servers

^^ This, last thing that commanders need is more power….they’re already big enough failures/trolls
For every good commander, there’s 50 others that are terrible and have no idea what they’re doing.
Many Commanders are not good leaders and would use this ability to put guildmates on the turrets.

I’d rather have 6 less experienced people on turrets, than 5 experienced and 1 troll.
Just saying.
It’s been suggested many times for A-net to change the way commaders earn their title, but they refuse to listen or even post about it.
The title should be earned, not bought.
PvE and WvW titles separately.
Earned by achievements possibly.
Because commanders are magically endowed with the ability to make better decisions than turret trolls?
Giving commanders “powers” is something that shouldn’t happen unless the entire method by which the title is gained (preferably, through actually displaying an ability to command) is altered.
If this went live today, You’d just see even more effective trolls, as they’d just kick people that were actually effective off of turrets in order to troll harder.

While I’ve met some good commanders, the most helpful people I’ve encountered – as someone who has only played for about 2-3 months – have been randoms I’ve encountered in map events, who offered to guide newer players and coordinate boss events.
Of all of these truly rad people, most had a boatload of achievement points. 6000+
I would approve of an adjustment that sees the commander title made available only through an achievement.
It’s what a commander would do. Commanders are leaders, helpful, experienced, and know what they’re doing when it comes to GW2.
Commanders are just players who paid to have a little blue “look at me” icon show up over their heads. It has nothing to do with displaying leadership, helpfulness, experience or competence.
This would help.
I think it would take GW2 trolling to a whole new level.
Even if commanders somehow magically possessed all the traits you attribute to them, I still don’t want any players granted the power to rule over others in the manner described, based solely on their ability to cough up gold or earn an achievement. That’s a cure worse than the disease. Think what you will, but such authority will ultimately boil down not only to kicking “trolls” out of turrets, but kicking anyone out that a given commander does not want there.
Ideally, the entire event needs to be reworked so it is simply less susceptible to turret trolling, but what makes sense and what gets done sometimes seem to lie at opposite ends of ArenaNet’s spectrum.

No way. The devs already have given out ways for people to grief one another (e.g. musical instruments), but giving them this option would be over the top.
Don’t support the Gem Shop, it’s that easy.
Absolutely and unequivocally NOT!
Giving one player the power to control the actions of another player is the worst idea I have seen on these forums to date.
If you want to control other players go to PvP.
As I have said time and time again… 100 gold does not a leader make!
Now that said, I agree that making a mechanic that someone can sit in a Turret and Troll the entire event for 100 others is just a poor game mechanic and should be changed. On the other hand, everybody who has been in a Turret so far had to learn by doing.
Heck there is even an Achievement for using the Turret, so there will be Newbies in the Turrets all the time. Should the Commanders be kicking them too. Who’s to say if they are trolling or learning.
- Change the mechanic by making the Turrets not subject to Trolls
- Well there need not be any #2 if you change #1.

Because there are no troll commanders out there.
WvW commander titles should be obtained by WxP ranks (account bound).
PvE commander titles should be obtained by Achievement points.
Not by 100g

Eh, achievement points are a little bias atm. Players that WvW primarily will have less points than anyone else. Until that is fixed, I’ll pass on this achievement point commander solution as well.
If only the search feature worked on this site…
I disagree although sympathize. You’re right though. It would help. But I still hope I never see it.
Even if you are the greatest commander the server has ever seen – it doesn’t matter. I may not accept your leadership and I shouldn’t be compelled to. Fact is you don’t have to ‘earn’ a commander tag and you didn’t have to have the approval of any other player. Because of that it is only a cosmetic item that has only has as much importance as any player is willing to assign it.
You could argue that a guild leader might be able to have a mechanic like that. By joining a guild it is implied that that you’ve accepted the guild leader and officers leadership. Even then I doubt it would work well. Everyone would just use their bank / personal guild tags when manning the turrets.
The actual fix to this would be adding in something like “Hylek Alchemy Kits” that equip as an environmental weapon that have the same skills as the turrets but with reduced effects. In fact, I would say make the turrets automated and run by Hylek, let players grab the kits and go to town doing what is needed. That way you encourage having a lot of people. You don’t have 1 or 2 people screwing the event for everyone else. You still have to balance strategy of using the support skills of the kits with doing damage to the dragon. It really is that simple and I’m amazed Anet hasn’t figured this out yet.
Bad@Thief: Kiera Gordon
Sea of Sorrows, a server never before so appropriately named.
Most of the commanders I’ve seen are no better than the average player. I don’t use my tag, because most of the time it does nothing in PvE. A blue icon does not a leader make.

I like your thinking.

Not by 100g
They should be both at least, since they could never change it. 100g for the dorito and give commanders a ranking system or something by AP.
New Feature: Use the brain properly.
NO. anyone can get 100g. What if some troll just put his tag up and kept kicking people off turrets for fun?
I’ve suggested this in another topic but I’ll say it here, too. Rather than giving commanders a “kick” ability, why not give the turrets that ability?
To prevent a constant “trolling” of the turrets, the turrets would have a 10-15 second usage timer and a 5-second player-specific cooldown between uses — those crazy Hyleks deal in some potent potions, after all. Players would have to cycle as turret users, increasing the chances for individuals to get their achievements and to prevent a troll from camping a turret. While a troll could still try to get back on, it’s no longer a guaranteed lock-down, especially with 2-3 people standing by to use it while (s)he is on cooldown.
Until the commander tag is something that is earned and not bought they should have no power over the way other people play, especially in PvE.

Problem is that what makes this event hard is actually the coordination and distribution of the players needed for it…with a reasonin like this you just put all of what i mentioned above to basically 0, since it would become again a mindless zerg with some ppl spamming support in it and jumping when needed…
And besider how could an hylek npc properly launch a buff etc at the zerg, at this point even the armored scale buff would become useless, because hylek will anyway do it efficiently…there could still be a “defense” part, but nothing near what it is right now.
The event is perfectly fine like this, and big servers are hosting on small ones since ours is always full and to give a help for it…it came out from like 3 days, let people actually learn how to do this event properly at least xD
What would be interesting would be not only to have the current commander system: 100g and you get the blue dorito.
But to also have a drop much like the little voting ticket we had for Kiel and Evon that you could use to “vote” on commanders who were excellent. To prevent too much “spam voting” There are a couple things you could do to diminish it: Make the tickets worth money at the merchant, so you would have to choose to spend it to vote on another player being a good commander, and you could require a reason to be written in or checked on why you were voting for them. Impatience for writing, reading, and filling out forms would also diminish “spam votes”.
As a commander earned votes of the community, their commander tag would change from the blue to Gold, or Purple or Red….
You could also entrust community affirmed or approved commanders with more powers in events as the OP suggested.
About commanders: In one of the TQ events I was in, I had the opportunity to run a turret. I had the basics, but getting the rotations correct was something I was looking forward to doing. In other words, I knew what I was supposed to do, but needed practice.
There was this commander who kept screaming (all caps) that I was an F’n n00b and that I should basically quit the game, sell my computer and take up knitting teacozies.
Now, I understand that I may not have been the best turretmaster, but trying to learn shouldn’t be something that a random player with enough money to get his “blue dorito” (as a previous poster called it) does with his perceived authority.
Before you say I was keeping everyone from winning, we were hopelessly behind from the get-go and there was no chance to win. We simply didn’t have the manpower or the organization in our particular overflow.
Now for the real question: If you’re trying to learn how to run one, and the only chance you get is during a TQ event, how are you supposed to learn if they boot you off it after (X) minutes? I don’t think giving an already egotistical megalomaniac commander the power to kick people is the way to go.
Anyone seen my knitting needles?
