this is surprisingly a great idea

the only problem would be trolls spending 100g just to get commander, and then trolling

I know there will be a troll commander, but there will be also other commander. i see like 8-7 commander in one map, i am sure half of it not a troll who can take over.

Just make it so that if two or more turret skills have been off cooldown for, say, 30 seconds, the person gets kicked off the turret.

I have to say this is a really bad idea for only 1 reason. All it takes to be a commander is to have access to 100g. If they changed the requirements to be a commander to something more then id say yes to this.

Disagree although sympathize.
Who didn’t realize there would be people who would camp the turrets and stay on for hours at a time before this patch even rolled out? I’m not saying I have a better idea but I think this was apparent. I wish there would have been NO achievement points that came from the turrets that way only people who wanted to really be a part of beating him would man them.
I could see having the option as a guild officer / leader to remove someone from a turret from their own guild. Being part of a guild sort of implies that you have accepted the leadership of those officers / leaders. Having a commander tag is not like that at all.

While I agree with this logic…at least the 100g is a barrier of entry…
Although then what happens when you don’t have enough tags?

While I can sympathize with your issue, I don’t think it’s the answer to your issue.

What happens (not likely, but lets go with it) if there is no commander there to boot the afk off?

What happens if the commander is just a terrible player (cause we all know commander = good player right? not)

If the commander just feels like being a kitten and opts to simply troll the event? (after all, the lootz isn’t good enough, just go read the numerous complaints already)

The proposed solution leaves the door open to create other issues, and there is not a good solution to the problem. At least not one that is going to make everyone happy (there never is).

Maybe instead, set up a system to detect that the event is going, and detect if the turret is manned. Then, if the turret doesn’t activate a skill in a set amount of time (30-45 sec maybe) dump the person off of it, allowed someone else to man it instead.

I’m not sure how long the wait timer before “determining” that the person in the seat is afk should be, but I’m assuming if you’re doing your job, you’re going to be using those skills often.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

You know what happened on my server this morning? NO one was taking the turrets!! Too much pressure or ignorance, I don’t know but after watching one sit idle for like 15 seconds I grabbed it myself and trust me, I can’t hit the side of a barn and I’m the last person you want on a turret.

Good thing I had read the forums and knew what to do though; not that it helped because I didn’t have any defenders so within a minute I died and my turret went down.

Sigh.

There should be 30s check for turrets skills. If you are not using any skill within 30s you get booted. I also see idle players parked on the turrets and that automatically means failure.

Maybe i am not being clear enough with what i meant when i write commander should be able to take over turrets. what i meant was, the commander should have the ability to boot the afk person out of the turrets so other people can use it. we know there are tons of kittenty commander around, but there are a lot of commander who did a good job. i also like the idea that during battle of teq if the turret is not used after 30 secs and people get kicked from it. whatever works. we need all the turrets power to the max, that’s the main key in 1st few minutes. and make afk people on sparkfly fen map log off faster. they are a waste of space and peoples time.

I disagree with OP. What commanders should do is take off their tag if they’re not actively and strategically leading a group. Otherwise their tag is just going to lead the zerg under Tequatl’s feet to insta die.

I did the Shatterer. And I got kicked off the canon twice. Simply because of the spawns around it, they destroyed the cannon. If I’d been afk, I wouldn’t have been able to regain access to the cannon after it got repaired. So, the game takes care of it already.

can you imagine how many trolls will be doing that? at least with a commander tag there’s that 100g barrier. not all people can have it. one of the strategy to a victory is to make sure the turrets be used properly. that is also a commanders job if their tag is up.
