I agree, the fight in an of itself is a ton of fun and definitely doable.

The arbitrary 15 minute timer seems pointless.

From an RP perspective what is Tequatl thinking?

“I’m going to give these guys 15 minutes to kill me, if they don’t I’ll just smash their cannon and corrupt the area.”

A more RP solution would be

" I can’t risk destroying that cannon until their turrets are taken down, once all 6 are destroyed I’ll smash their mega laser and corrupt the land! Myuahahaha"

I think 15 minutes is too long. A good big boss fight should be should be 6-8 minutes imo. Short enough so that people don’t say “let me know when he’s at 10% and I’ll port in” as is what happens in my guild with events like Claw or Lyssa.

Maybe some people would like a 30+ minute boss fight but I think in many cases they don’t really know what they are asking for.

No boss fight should last longer than 15 minutes. Most boss fights outstay their welcome after 5 to 10 minutes. Tequatl simply has way too much health, and the time given is not enough to take that much health down. Plus, it doesn’t scale properly with the number of players participating. Don’t increase the timer, but decrease his health pool.

Like others have said: 15 minutes is about as long as any fight should be, unless it has 4+ phases that are very different.

IF anything needs to change it should be his HP by ~40%. So far I’ve only heard of one server getting to 50% so it would still be a challenge for that server but would feel much better for the rest who would be getting him to the <50% range.

15 minutes is way too short I have to agree. Now I’m not saying it’s impossible, cuz I’m sure it’s possible to do in 15 minutes, HOWEVER:

IF there is an overflow, they don’t stand a chance in hell.
On smaller population servers there is NO way that there will be enough people on to do it every time he spawns. This means that if someone can only log in between say 6am and 4am, then there is a VERY good chance that during that period, there won’t be enough people. This can even apply on larger servers.

Frankly, I dislike a lot of the new boss mechanics changes (and I was excited when I heard.) But there are fun changes, and there are changes that cause insta-down and insta-death. Insta-anything bad is a recipe for insta-frustration. This means people will not want to do it. I like that they are trying to get more people to do these, however if it comes down to where there are only 5-10 of us to do say the Elemental, then we might be screwed. That’s not fun.

Also sidenote: Elemental is broken….so can’t do it anyway.

Back on topic. Either increase the timers, make it so the stupid damage dealer things arent insta-down/death, or add a number 6 skill to turrets that rezzes everyone in X area…

That goes for any boss in God of War too. They are about 5 minutes, except for the Sisters of Fate in GoW 2, who last 15 minutes… but they are 3 boss fights in a row basically. So 5-7 minutes is the standard for most boss fights in many games.

I loved the fight. Loved the idea. Loved the improvements. But i agree that the timer is too short for the changes in his health. I see people on the forums saying that they shouldn’t nerf it in any way and that they like the difficulty.. In the long term they are going to filter into the people who simply get kitten ed of at the event and stop doing it entirely. I haven’t missed Tequatl since i entered and we never managed to drop him under 70% no matter which overflow i entered. If they don’t nerf it they need to move him somewhere else or do something so that the afk turret players and the white/blue geared have a chance/shouldn’t be allowed to do it. Still i’m all for the chance of failing but not in a norm that is impossible unless you meet some perfect requirements that are impossible in a game promoted as casual.

I think 15 mins is doing with practice and with competent turret operators. I just wishes that the dead lazy kitteners would just WP and run back instead of waiting for a rez. If you are down and can be rezzed quickly we will but if you are dead it takes too long and the time we spend reviving your lazy kitten is time not spent contributing to the fight.

I think something like that would be the best.

The Problem with Tequatl right now is, if the entire group consisted of Pro Players and everyone knew what exactly to do, the 15 Min Timer wouldnt be the Problem.

But World Bosses are not – and yes im saying a bad word now – Raids.
If you have around 10 ppl coordination is doable, once you have around 20 it starts getting hard, but 200 ppl and more? Forget it.

Edit:
I would really appreciate if the WP was not contested during the fight, once Tequatl has won: OKAY
But during the fight it just encourages ppl to just stay dead like it is with other events where the waypoints are too far away, e.g. Grenth

I actually have an idea that would make the fight a lot more palatable. The main problem seems to be getting him to the first laser phase so you can hit him during his moment of vulnerability.

What if they added an additional laser phase at about 90% – 95%. That would allow people to break into a vulnerability period before needing to deal 25% of his health bar with his insanely high armor.

Weakling, did you ever do any of the older WoW raids? Stuff like Onyxia took 25~ min for a medicore organized group on voice over, a 15 minute boss is no problem, if his hp fits and there are no bugs or trolls (both that sadly exist if its open world or plain made by a-net).

It was painful when people spawned the whelps or didnt move out of the fire, but it was a good challenge and you got braggers rights (and it got easier with the gear you got from beating her if you had enough DKP). Thats kinda what raids are about.
Problem in GW2 is there is no control over important objectives, a lot of numbers werent really tested (like the krait vets that can somehow instakill the turrets but barely do damage to players as seen 2 times already on overflow while trying to repair the sodding turret) and bugs like jumping over shockwave physically but still getting knocked back and getting stuck inside the sodding bone wall.

You guys arguing over 15 minutes and forgetting that it’s 15 minutes per phase.
It’s already much longer than a 15 minute fight. Right now it takes longer than a dungeon run, or a full fractal set.
For guaranteed failure (On launch day, when server pop is at max specifically to do the new content.)

Tomorrow will already have half the population, and I for one am not even bothering with a second attempt. 150+ people on an overflow, mostly surviving and doing everything they were supposed to do, and didn’t even get him to %90.

That’s just…. terrible for an open world event.

TEQ as a boss should not be nerfed and I hope that all world bosses eventully get his treatment (Excluding Jormag and Karka since they are already hard). That said I do agree the timer should be upped. Maybe not during the living story event but after when the achievements go away so people don’t just sit in LA for 2 weeks and wait.

An extra 5 minutes should be enough (Especially once people understand that you cant auto-attack him with a greatsword anymore). I also think the rewards could use a little tweaking but are largely fine. Something as simple as throwing some T6 mats into end chest would be enough to bring encourage players it is a lot of effort.

Timer needs to be at least 1 hour so maybe some servers can get it to 75 or even 50 percent(50 might be possible for most servers if a lot already can get it to 90 meaning 10 percent damage i 15 mints… 40 percent in 60 minutes).

More than 1 hours would probably make it too easy for the “top servers”.

But 1 hour should be okay. Weaker servers might learn slowly and still can get some success at the beginning when they are able to get him to 75 for next phase…(instead of having to wait and train for a few months stuck at 90)
