Q:

Hi, I am a level 80 ele who is geared fully in zerker gear. I don’t have the gear suggested to use in the fight, but people keep telling me to be in the forefront of the battle just because of the ice bow. Is this right even though I am in zerker gear and die every few seconds? (I think the longest I managed to stay up was about two minutes) What exactally is the role the ele is supposed to play anyway during this fight? People have shouted at me for heals (zerker gear is terrible for that) and others just want the ice-bow.

P.S. I know Tequatl can’t be crited and I know that the recommended gear is knight, but I don’t have the gold to buy the gear let alone craft it (I do have a toon hat 400 tailoring).

A:

Don’t stack with the dps zerg.
Give them ice bows from a distance, kill fingers, spam some aoe on Teqila the Dragon and help turret defence if needed.
Don’t stack with the dps zerg.

You will eventually die if you cant jump on waves or a poison cloud hits to your kitten . But without stacking with the dps zerg your survivability will increase from %1 to %51 =)

It makes sense they send you up front because of ice bow. What they fail to understand is that you need the required support to do so.

I think ele’s can be used either as supportive (stacking) as well as offensive (ice bow, fiery greatsword)

From what I understand, you can prep the zerg before the event starts by casting a bunch of frost bows for them, that won’t expire until used, and help out in turret and battery defense during the actual fight, where crit will be helpful.

The recomended gear is Soldier if you are with the zerg. You can get a set of PVT gear for karma at the temples, except for the leggings. My Elementalist’s main set is zerker, too, so I know what you mean.
I ran HotW a few times to get the leggings btw.

If you don’t want a new set, protect the turrets.

For PVT you can run HotW, AC and SE a bunch of times. It might take a couple of days but even swapping only part of armour at first will help. You could also get PVT rares. They won’t be as good as exotics but they will still make a difference and they are a lot easier to come by.

As mentioned spawn frost bows before the fight. During you will be more useful in defence. You will still provide a lot of damage during stun phases by summoning Ice Bows and Fiery GSs.

If you end up staying in the zerg go S/F. Using Swirling Winds, Magnetic Wave and Obsidian Flesh can prolong your life quite a bit. If you learn to get out of the poison circles quickly (if they are not cleansed) and jump/dodge waves you will survive a bit longer.

You can still support the zerg by dropping bows/GS near them. Just don’t stay around for long. It’s also easy to get out of the poison AOE if you keep moving

Just use the karma merchants at the temples you can get a mock sentinal gear for all but one slot at least in heavy I am not 100% sure of other weights.

I didn’t even think about the temple gear. Thanks, I’ll look into that when I get home.

As a user with main elementalist, if you dont want to spend money/badges in a PVT gear you can use your zerk gear for defend turrets. Or you can use the cleric gear for support the zerg with heals or turrets.

Simple solution is to just spawn Ice Bows while prepping then help defend the turrets.

The nice thing about turret defense is that critical hits and condition damage all work as normal against the mobs. I’ve tried helping the zerg (in Celestial Gear) a few times with conjured weapons, but I found myself spending entirely too much time respawning to make much of a contribution.

You didn’t mention what weapons you use, but I’ve found staff to be very useful at turret defense. Fire magic is good for nuking a couple of mobs quickly (and they usually are packed together pretty closely,) water is good for healing yourself, other defenders, and the turret users. Earth is better-than-usual if you use Shockwave 5 and Unsteady Ground 4 on foes soon after they appear in order to slow them down while they’re still far from the turrets. That can be a bit dangerous, though, so you’ll want Arcane Shield at the least if you try it.

My normal spec I use dagger/dagger which I would if I was defending the turrets, but with tequatl to just be able to hit him I’ve been using staff which is another reason I keep dying because it’s so stationary compared to the daggers. With the d/d I have massive aoe at close range and can heal myself nicely. I don’t die when soloing in Orr it’s just zerker for tequatl that had me. Thanks for the advise though. I’ll try staff sometime in the back

You can get almost all of pvt from temples (including accessories). The only piece you can’t get is the pants, which you could get from a few runs in ascalonian catacombs or from wvw badges.
