Anet, this one is actually the first fight in the game that requires something else then auto attack on a safe spot and go afk.
And it does not seem that kittence you understand the mechanics. But it will take some time until people know what to do.
Glass cannos in the front are useless here, they are constantly in downstate as they do not have enough toughness and regeneration. They are better off defending the cannons while ranged builds with a decent amout of toughness/regenerations stay at the front. They have enough room to move/jump over waves while keeping constant dps.
So the tactics is obviously. But will our melee zerkers understand it or will the rage on the forums? We’ll find out.
Yeah, good luck whittling down his health with no zerkers on him. Tell me how that works out for you. I’ve yet to see him go below 80% and that’s with people who actually know how to dodge and stay on him while dealing with ads. He has too much health for the limited timer, simple as.
I’m sure he’s doable in a timely fashion with an entire zerg decked out in exotics and ascended but you cannot prevent people with lousy gear from participating in an open world boss.
I agree with OP. Great fight, please don’t nerf. A dragon shouldn’t be beaten by smacking its pinky toe with a sword for 10 mins, thanks for the fix. For the first time I actually feel like Tequatl is an angry dragon that’s out to kill us, like it should have been from launch. I’m a big fan of dragons, and the old Tequatl was a poor excuse for one.
Thought I should put some feedback on here, between all QQing farmers and metagamers. Thanks again, loving it
World bosses cannot be crit apparently so Zerkers may be the worst gear to fight this boss.
Fair point. I still don’t think toughness is going to do much for you since it does nothing to mitigate condition damage which is what is killing most people from what I’ve observed. The only real solution is to stack power and roll with an ascended weapon and then pray that the rest of the zerg does so too or you will inevitably fail.
Which brings up this question: is it reasonable to ask everyone who goes to the Tequatl fight to have the right gear for fighting him? Or to have an ascended or better weapon?
Yeah, good luck whittling down his health with no zerkers on him.
Crit damage is useless here. You cannot crit Tequatl. Just raw power builds are needed that have invested a bit toughness/regeneration instead of crit. dmg. That’s enough.
For example: warriors with 30 points in defense on knights gear can stand in the front for the whole time and dealing constant damage without ever going down. For such builds they just need to jump over the waves and move a bit out of the red circles. But they can deal constant damage. Similar for other classes.
Just needs some time until people get used to it what to do. We had about 80 people on my overflow and about 60 were constantly down This obviously cannot work. Health is too high for a team of five to bring him down.
But again I like this fight. It is a good thing that it does not work right away. In about a few days more and more people will understand how it works, tell it to other and it will be completed. Of course only in the last 1 minute or so. It is designed to be a close call.
This currently is as close as we get to raid content in GW2. It is a good start.

I hate to say this but yes. If you do opt to go there in nothing but blues you will be a burden and take up a slot which could be better used by somebody else. This unfortunately also goes for people who just wants to quest in the zone while the raid is up.
I can’t help but think that ArenaNet has completely lost sight of their vision.

Agreed – if it is true that only people in exotics, and the right kind of exotics only, can do Tequatl, and that ascended weapons are preferred, this could just breed horrible elitism. After all, Tequatl is a world boss, so it should be open to everyone who wants to do it, regardless of their gear or even skill level. If you’re going to make doing Tequatl this elite, maybe you ought to instance him.

This isn’t raid content, it’s just a buffed up bullet sponge of a world boss. People aren’t having issues figuring out the mechanics, people are having issues dealing with the absurd amount of health he’s packing. I’ve seen the fight be done to perfection and still not get anywhere close to actually taking him down since a lot of the players were underleveled and undergeared.
While I too want difficulty in my encounters this kind of hit point bloating is the absolute worst kind. Especially when you factor in the gear treadmill which has now been made obligatory.

This is not needed at all. It is not about 5 players in a CoF speed run. It’s about a lot of people who keep standing and dealing constant damage.
No need for special gear here. If you are full glass then stay at the canons or use them with the right skill. Anyone more balanced goes to the front. The mechanics are this easy. It is just a paradigm shift here. Other builds beside full zerkers are getting more useful in PvE. We will see if Anet keeps this up. More fun for players who like to play more tanky.
All kind of builds are needed here and can be used. But zerker glass canons are not the important and deciding ones. Of course they are needed as well. But not only! I like that.

I agree. Is as close as we get at the moment that what I said. I would love to see some real raid content.
But if people do not like it, meaning they prefer auto-attack and go afk then we will never see proper raid content. So these buffed world bosses are also a testing gound for Anet to check acceptance by the players. If it works out they might do real raids in the future.
About gear tread mill and ascended. Hate it like everyone else. Will get worse when ascended armor comes.
First attempt: we done kittened it up
Second attempt: still awful, but we know some things to improve at least
Third attempt: PHASE TWO!!! — oops, we done kittened that up….
Fourth attempt: I dunno, but super excited to see those lasers fire.
maybe dont nerf it that much but seriously you must be blind to not realise that this fight is almost impossible… the mechanisms aren’t that complicated and the fact is that the boss simply has too much health for a 15 minute fight….
You guys know that giant shiny laser lets you crit on teq right? protect the laser, swarm zerkers, get 6 real players on the turrets and profit.
The only real problem is the turrets. There is no way to keep stupid people and griefers off them, having 3 people being able to mess up an entire fight for 200 people is kinda poorly thought out…

They don’t have an impressive track record of dealing with griefers.

it’s not useless if you’re defending the cannons.

I have done it and it is no fun. I don’t care for beating it or not, I don’t mind a hard fight, as long as it is fun. Tequatl is simply annoying and I won’t do it again. Getting constantly pushed, pulled, kicked, thown and similar things is not, what I would name a fight. I never reached downstate with a fighter in a good allround gear, but it has not been even near to fun. It does not even matter what class you play, all you do is dodge, run, stand up, heal, cure, run, revive. No thank you. Won’t try it again.
The shatterer before with the hard battle for the guns behind, that has been fun! Keep you minimal chance for ascended gear, I choose fun over gear everytime!
This whole thing right now reminds me of the Fire Ele near Rata Sum back in Beta.
Yeah it was a death march at first. But after Anet nerfed it, I came back months later and literally soloed the darn thing. …Lots of kneejerk here…
If people want an Encounter to really kneejerk over (and NOT Karka either)…. no then they needed look not further than the Balthazar escort this past month. Now there was an encounter that was really broken by the recent changes that happened to it. And the worst part is that Anet still hasn’t confirmed if those changes were intentional or not. (1/4-second cast on 6-8 wells at a time?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???)
+1.
Loved the first encounter I had with Teq 2.0
got kicked around so hard it still hurts. Can’t wait to get it on with that dragon again.
Tequatl feels like a real fierce dragon now. No more zombie gaming on this world boss!
Seeing a Charr burn gives a whole new perspective to the word charcoal
I haven’t had so much fun with a boss fight for a long time. I just did the Golem and Tequatl and it was ooooh my gosh.
At Tequatl playing as an elementalist I was able fitting in all roles. I repaired the turrets, I defended them, I used them to cut down Tequatls armor and even stepped in at melee range.
It will take a little while to coordinate players in this fight, but then it will be fun for all. Please dont nerf it, it is the best fight in the game so far!
I want my loots and I want it nao pouts. The tidal wave is great, by the way. Give this NEW event time to sink in. From what I know it was released earlier today!

You understand Zerkers do just as much as anyone else? Because they can’t crit him, so serkers are pretty useless in this fight, if you want to max your dmg on him, don’t be a zerker, you’re honestly only hurting the event imho, if you’re in the zerg that’s fighting him directly. SO, you want max dmg? GO PVT, Maxing Power out will gain your maximum damage other than being SERKER/CRIT.
Crit damage is useless here. You cannot crit Tequatl. Just raw power builds are needed that have invested a bit toughness/regeneration instead of crit. dmg. That’s enough.
Can any DPS builds confirm this? I know a lot of people mistakenly think all world bosses cannot be crit. Did A net remove the ability to crit on Tequatl?
You are failing to see the bigger picture – if we’re failing to beat him on launch, how do you expect to beat him after a few weeks, when people will either just give up or don’t care anymore? Good luck trying to take him down with 20 people.

Tequatl is an object, you can not crit objects. Any gear with power as main stat and then defensive secondary stats is best, so something like PVT. Obviously for the mobs around the turrets you just go full berserker.

You will. And many as well. But there will be a lot of people who never will. And they will still show up to scale the boss for you. There is only as much of damage and protection a skilled team can bring to make up for the deadweight. You cant filter people out from Teq like you can when doing your high level fractals. And Teq will scale same with everyone. He will also scale with those AFK corpses under his feet. New Teq is fine as he is. He is not fine as content which forces you to rely on so called “bads” to complete.

This bold part is(was) false. You most definitely could crit Tequatl before the update. that is why I’m asking if a Zerker who has gotten past the laser phase can chime in, I don’t see why they would change that. The laser still seems to serve it’s original function, making Tequatl vulnerable to damage and crits.
Excellent. Yet another encounter in this game that’s pointless for melee.
Getting close enough to Teq to melee him is a fool’s errand. If you do succeed, you can’t crit him. I’m relegated to keeping mobs off the turrets, and repairing them whenever possible. Can’t DPS, can’t tank, and the current attitude of the folks trying to do Teq is “don’t heal or rez”, so this should be… fun.
This is going to be another “do once, then never do again once successful” encounter for many folks, I’m guessing, as I’m betting my server won’t bother mustering 80+ folks in the same place again once the hardcore folks get their one-and-out.
