But making more guild missions and having one be a big boss fight would still be neat.

I think this is a brilliant idea TBH, it’s a way for Anet to introduce “raid” content in a way but w/o excluding anyone and by reusing existing content. Let me explain.

You revamp these world bosses so they’re actually difficult and have these mechanics people need to learn and play around. Anet then creates instanced versions of these which could be an instanced dungeon sort of like Mad King Lair dungeon, except for guildies and make it a guild mission.

Then make the minimum people required 10 or so, and have the encounter scale up the more people you want in it up to the same amount of the actual encounter in open world.

Now you essentially have “raid content” for guilds in essence, and even better, it scales so you can have 10-80 people in it. Scaling would be like, the number of mobs spawned, the turrets available and required, hp/dmg/aoe’s etc.

They could also get more creative with it if they wanted and include a hardmode version for those that want it, though I doubt they would do it unless it was easy enough to implement.

Its really not that far-fetched of an idea, considering there are the bounty guild missions which are essentially just a raid boss mob thing. Anet would just need to figure out how to get people to get into the same instance which could be done by having people click on the guild mission flag planted to enter the instance (which would only be for people in said guild).

Yes. I did. It would still require being a part of a decent-sized guild. I’ve no problem with instanced content. My problem is purely with making instanced content require being part of a decent sized guild. Make it not require a guild and I’d have no problem with your suggestion.

Again, that would exclude those people from the content, or force them to join a large guild.
A lot of people who play GW2 play it because it doesn’t have dumb reward tiers that force you to do big raids to get the coolest stuff (IE every other MMORPG out there).

I’m in a small guild, and I like my guild a lot. I don’t want to be forced to join a bigger guild just to have access to some content.

Having instanced version for pugs would be cool too, but this is the best compromise Anet would probably bother with.

Yes. They do exist. And they caused a large community furor when they launched due to gating people out of the content. That action killed a lot of smaller guilds. And yes. There is still complaining about that. It’s just mostly died down as most of the small guilds already died and the few that didn’t have found large, friendly guilds that don’t mind helping their fellows out.

If they can make in instanced version, then there is no reason they should have to make it guild-only. Dungeons don’t require guilds. Larger content in GW1 (Urgoz’s Warren and The Deep) didn’t either. Neither should most larger-group content.

I’m against instances in MMOs as I think they push player bases out of the world and into their own private games. At this point you might as well not have an MMO, but a town lobby where people group up to do multi-player RPGs. I’d rather the content be in the world and shared by everyone. This is more organic. You don’t take 25 people to fight Deathwing because he marked the entrance with a sign that says “maximum capacity 25”, you take every capable hero to take him down.

Taking down threats to the realm should be a server affair, not just something guilds do on their own. The current problems people have with the Tequatl are not because he isn’t instanced, though I agree instancing would allow for large guilds to take him on easier. The problems are multi-faceted and include:

1) People becoming familiar to the encounter. It is day one and many people only got to try him once yesterday. I assure you many people were just trying him the first time every time yesterday. I stress that before we conclude “trolls” will ruin this to not see your fellow players as trolls just because they are dying or misusing the turrets. This is evidence for ignorance. While it could be evidence of malice, we do not conclude malice unless further evidence is presented to conclude it is malice 1. Have patience with your fellow players as they come to grips with the mechanics and teach them. As servers succeed, and they will, the knowledge will propagate as more players witness/research successful attempts.

2) The event largely starts unannounced. There is no lead up to the event, which can make for shaky starts. Pre-events would be welcome… I mean where does the megalaser come from anyway after it is destroyed? This event definitely could use a construct the megalaser/cleanse the shore of corruption pre-events.

3) People don’t or can’t read the chat. The chat goes by quickly and some may not pay attention. Arena Net could add NPCs that give clearer and louder instructions to the encounter to aid in positioning and tasks.

4) I tentatively think that the encounter could be too difficult. As I’ve suggested since release , they should scale group event difficulty based on server success/failure 2. If an event succeeds, it is harder and more rewarding the next time it occurs. If it fails, it is easier, and less rewarding. More difficult versions of events should be more rewarding, than less difficult version. Unfortunately, guesting players might cause overflows on some popular servers. This is an engineering problem I don’t have a solution for, but probably does have a (costly) solution that involves creating overflows for a world instead of overflows that get populated by any world that currently needs one. This overflow would copy the current state of the world it was created for (i.e., it retains the difficulty and state of dynamic events).

+1 to that
It’s would give us control over coordination and make sure that players who get there are actually willing to play and listen (y’know, put some effort and not immediately die, not respawn and block players who could contribute but have ended up in an overflow).
As long as the same guild isn’t a requirement, it would be ok for both small and large guild and maybe even lead to more communication between the guilds and guild alliances.

Somehow I agree.

It’s impossible to organised with strangers.
Given the player limits, and how the extra bystanders will just scale the event up, I don’t think it’s in the GW2 philosophy to request organised game in the outside world.

Just keep an easy version with no rewards out so players won’t cry, and turn the current fight into an instanced guild mission!

High content in the open world is a gimmick of the game. Doesnt matter is it good or bad, it’s a gimmick, ANet can write in an advertisment: “There are HUGE bosses in the open world, so you HAVE TO buy this game, kittensucker”. Instancing any world boss just like removing ability to roll from Sonic the Hedgehog.
About suggestion for adding instanced Tequatl for guild missions while keeping it in the open world. It will be rather less epic if enyone who have a big guild be able to just summon Tequatl when they want to fight him. Anyway, ANet could just add new diffcult bosses to guild missions without bothering Tequatl. World bosses are separate piece of content, are you not going to ask devs make copies of every single boss for open world, dungeons, guild missions and WvW?

One of the things I like most about this game is that I can do content without having to look for a guild that runs things at certain times and then having to wait for people to show up.. I DO NOT miss raids. Playing 3-4 days a week at set hours like a job.. and that is what would happen— Applying for guilds and linking your build and gear answering stupid questions as you apply for stupid guilds so you can do content— No please don’t do this to this game.
