I have no interest in high-level Fractals, so I skip them. I don’t want to spend hours and hours in dungeons, so I avoid Arah Explorable.
I’m not a big MMO guy, I’ve only played the GW games, but I’m consistently surprised by people who seem to complain because they feel the need to do EVERYTHING. If you aren’t enjoying being a completionist, stop being a completionist!

You’re not being a jerk, lol. And you have a point, if I don’t like it, I don’t have to play it. But my point is that when anet adds more content that is suppose to be more challenging, it also needs to be more fun. They have made a habit out of this, so just asking if anyone else agrees/disagrees…
And please, as long as you’re respectful, feel free to have the opposite opinion of me XD It’s important that anet hears what everyone has to say about every subject so that the majority can get what they want.
I think it may depend on how quickly people figure it out: if we’re still failing with 80% health remaining in a couple weeks, I can’t imagine it being fun…

My opinion is objective fact.
Speaking for myself, this is more fun. It’s great and I hope the other dragons get similar revamps.
So to echo timmyf, maybe this just isnt for you, because other people like me are finding it both more challenging and more fun then before the changes.
The game has a little bit for everyone and a challenging outdoor encounter that hinges on coordination and good execution from everyone involved was sorely missing. Good job on this one Anet.

Firstly, kudos on your second paragraph.
Secondly, different strokes for different folks. I haven’t killed Teq, but I find the fight a LOT of fun. It feels epic, massive, exactly like what fighting a dragon should be like, and the possibility of failure adds to it. Even if I don’t get material rewards for it, I’d still show up for the fight and give it what I can. I just did the fight on my home server, and people seem to agree with me- everyone was excited even though we failed, thanking the turret gunners, talking strategy about the next go-around, and yelling light-hearted threats at Tequatl.
At the risk of sounding abrasive, your opinion is not universal, and the devs are not required to tailor all content to your personal preferences. Again, I don’t say that to be trollish- it’s just the best way I can word it, sorry.

That’s not the kind of attitude arena net has to provoke in the players with their new contents. Sure, there will always be people who don’t like the event, but clearly the majority doesn’t like it. Not to mention they removed the old Tequatl, so they kind of harmed us, who would like to ignore the event.
Even if some people enjoy it, it will be really hard for them to do it once everyone loses interest in doing it. Perhaps giving some kind of reward on failure will get their attention.

I’m under the impression you get a reward for each 25%, but I haven’t gotten that far yet, so I could be wrong.
Also: this is one dragon. There are two more dragons which you can win every time. (Claw being the harder/longer of the two.) Are they considerably harder with the patch? I don’t know. But I can’t imagine people are failing them.
Beyond that, there are a ton of relatively simple world bosses.
So even if you want to fight world bosses or dragons, if you don’t find Tequatl fun, you have other options. The VAST majority of world bosses are easy and winnable nearly every time.
I think it’s a little early to be freaking out.

Does anyone know what the rewards are for the different stages? I didn’t even know about that.
Not to be a total jerk here, but maybe just don’t do this event? If you don’t like it?
I understand what you’re saying. But the players who like the revamped event need to be careful with that approach. What could happen (and I’ve seen this happen before in a game called Pirates of the Burning Sea):
1) The minority that likes it says “If you don’t like it, just don’t do it.”
2) Large numbers of people stop doing it because they don’t like it or how difficult it has become or the risk/reward balance is way off.
3) Then the ones who do like it rarely/never succeed because there’s not enough of them left on at the same time.
4) Then that second group gives up too because they don’t have the numbers and the encounter becomes a wasteland.
Everyone hates events that are too easy (the Jungle Wurm in it’s first version). I have no problem with anet making Teq harder. But not insanely harder. I’ll just say “why bother”? And I’m sure I’m not the only one.

This! The fight is great. I just wish I could do it coordinated with a group and not with pug zerg. There are always people trying to coordinate the fight, but to much people die in front of Teq and wait for a rezz. Everyone wants to get a turret but don’t know how to use it.I believe It strongly depends on the 6 people that sits on the turrets in this first first phase. Protecting the turrets isn’t a big deal.

Hmm…
More Challenging: Certainly
More Rewarding: Only if you beat him, and we still don’t know the extent of rewards.
More team play: Yes, but no way to coordinate those teams so far.
Big Mindless Zerg Friendly: No, but the mindless zerg still exists and is likely needed for DPS
I see groups making a bit of progress in each overflow, but it’s minor. I’m wondering if we’ll see this become regularly beaten, or if after the initial rush it will be forgotten due to how difficult it is to beat him.
I like the more challenging content Anet has been rolling out lately, I did kind of hate Liadri but that was purely a camera complaint. This Tequatl fight though, it’s a matter of waiting around for the privilege of banging one’s head against the wall because the majority of the people present for the event don’t know how to do it. It’s not like a traditional MMO raid where you can remove useless people and replace them, here you’re stuck with them and they serve no purpose but to scale the boss up and make it even harder or at worst end up on a turret doing nothing. In a WvW setting where organization is key, this fight would be right at home, but out in the PvE open world this whole thing feels very out of place.

You just contradicted yourself. The fight is NOT great because of the very reasons you posted

Isn’t this exactly what happened with the Karka Queen event?
When a good chunk of the playerbase defines a “fun” boss as “something that dies easily” (actual words from map chat) how can you make challenging content and still make sure it’s fun?
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”
Speaking for myself, this is more fun. It’s great and I hope the other dragons get similar revamps.
I hope not, and i already hate the timer they put on Jormags Claw because i often made him late at night with not that many people and that take of course a loong time, and that fun is now gone.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
You cannot, no matter how hard you try, organize a group of more than 100 people. I just tried to do it, and there were afk genius’s standing in poison rings, ding-a-lings that were dancing in Teq’s face while he farted on them and they died, and then there are the people that disagree with any plan a commander comes up with, and they end up leading about half of your zerg to certain death.
I honestly don’t know how Anet expects people to lead a zerg this large against a fight that’s impossible in the first place.
I literally almost cried when I saw that there was a timer for Teq. Why. On earth. Would Anet. Put a 15 minute timer. On the most difficult boss in the game. The boss timers were literally the worst idea that I’ve ever seen in an mmorpg before.
Fighting a dragon isn’t really where they’re going to focus casual fun gameplay. I can see why people like that gameplay, but it just isn’t going to be a part of everything. Sometimes they need some content that’s a change of pace and requires hardcore organization.
Sometimes they need some content that’s a change of pace and requires hardcore organization.
And pray tell how does a 100 man pug organize against a open PvE meta event? I would love to know.
This event will ONLY get done with large coordinated guilds using TS etc to get it done, and even they they will mostly fail.
I forsee Tequatl the lootless becoming an event that noone will ever do if it stays like this.
To the OP.
Is it more fun? I like a challenge but this is beyond what any one person can do to attempt to complete it. So it is not fun. It “could” be fun without a timer or if he has less hp or an extended timer.
Is it more challenging? I don’t think that the mechanics are more challenging I think they bring a nice change of pace, that pace being rez, rez, rez, rez, rez, die…wait for rez.
It is beyond a challenge to even elite guilds and I will be surprised if anyone finished the meta in it’s current state.

Not to be a total jerk here, but maybe just don’t do this event? If you don’t like it?
A lot of people keep saying things like that or “Go away” “Do something else.”
What is gonna happen and has already started is people doing just that. And once enough people have stopped even trying, then those that want to do the event will eventually get hard pressed for enough people to do the event.
Rather than tell people to stop and go away, you should try to encourage them. After 4 tries, I have reached my limit and decided Teq is no longer for me. IF enough people feel the same way as me, then the event will eventually die off.
Encourage, don’t discourage!

To be honest this is what I imagined the dragon fights would be like whent i first started playing this game. Right now tequatl gives me the feeling of being faced with an epic beast that really need teamwork to kill, and not to be half afk and spamming 1111, and dodge the ocasional creeper (i admit it i did it also before the patch, half afk at Tequatl). Now you can’t, it is a challenge to defeat him, even if it is a pain, but i find it fun.
Time to end my little rant here before i start going of track.

The problem with this reasoning is that you can apply it to anything. Don’t like the dome in queen’s gauntlet? oh well the content just isn’t for you. Think dredge fractal is way too long and tedious? oh well the content just isn’t for you. Yes not everything is for me, and I can accept that. I would just like the content to be well designed. At the moment Teq is not that well designed. Do the new mechanics add fun? Yes it’s much more fun now that you don’t just sit around and hit abilities randomly. However, what isn’t fun is having your success dictated by 6 random people.
I’m not exactly sure yet if any event that has the success of 100+ people decided by a very small minority is all that good of an idea, but there are much better ways to implement something like that. For example, you could create a jumping puzzle that has something important at the end for the fight. Those who are good at jumping can do this and those who aren’t can fight the boss or protect the jumpers. This kind of mechanic self selects for success whereas the turrets randomly select people who may not understand the mechanics of the fight or, at worst, are griefers.
Players who are raising these concerns about Teq and other events are not just whining that “content isn’t for them.” They are evaluating the new content and telling the devs what about the event works for them and doesn’t work. Sure, maybe for some of them the content isn’t for them and they will just never enjoy sab because they don’t like jumping puzzles. Still, many are simply saying that there are parts of this content that get in the way of enjoyment of that content for them. That is called constructive criticism, even if it isn’t displayed in a very constructive manner. Some may enjoy jumping puzzles but not like sab world 2 because it is very long and frustrating. That is a valid complaint, even if you enjoyed world 2. You can think about their points, consider if what they are saying is due to them not liking the core idea of the content or an extraneous part that is not well designed. Or you could just lazily say that the “content is not for you.”
Disagreeing with criticism is fine, disregarding criticism because it is criticism is not, however. So please, stop saying “content is not for you” just because someone dared to say that they did not enjoy how the content was designed.

So he shouldn’t do any of the new “challenging” boss events?
And by challenging I mean “oh look, it has more health and does more damage”.
No new mechanics.
Just more health and damage.
Great job, arenanet, sure is challenging. It’s like I’m really fighting a boss in HOTW!
From what I’ve seen so far, the possibility of the event succeeding all depends on the competency of the people manning the turrets. So even if I am trying my hardest to do everything right, if those on the turrets either don’t know what they are doing or even refuse to (like so many trolls do), the whole event fails.
I sincerely hope not but if that is correct then the Tequatl event is soon to be a ghost town.

I agree with the OP and with this reply
Yay for the people that want OMG thats hard content if one little corner of sparkly fen is dedicated to then i dont care i just wont go there and it wont affect me.
What is still true for most people this just isnt a fun way to do it.
I have what i think is a good system 8gig quad core HD7800 but:
with the ping all the way to little old NZ and the crowds needed for the event
I find it becomes a game of whak a mole where im the mole and i start one step behind
Simply coating all of an area with overlapping one shot aoe adding a horde of champions doesnt make things fun it just makes things hard.
New Dragon new challenges i expected NEW not just the same old ways to kill the players x10
To those that have the ping the twitch and think its fun go for it and enjoy
I will be raiding temples stalking champions hunting down BG in wvw and having fun with out teakettle
