…if you’ve been paying attention at all it has been repeatedly pointed out how badly a few people or even an individual can troll an entire event by either using a turret poorly or just not doing anything at all while in it; with the only real recourse being to either accept incipient event failure or to do something that violates the spirit of the game like pulling mobs to the trolled turret to kill them. Neither are good for the long term health of this game.

We need mobile bundle pickups that perform the same type of functions as the turrets; in the same manner that charrzookas are handled at Jormag’s lieutenant. This would side step the issue entirely of a few people being able to block event completion. They wouldn’t even have to be as good as the turrets as long as we could get enough people using them as a safety valve.

Yea, SoS had one troll taking a turret and just using it to heal himself so he could keep it.
That kind of stuff just ruins the event.

Yeah I read that thread and it was part of the inspiration for me making this suggestion. The base difficulty of this event does not particularly bother me, it’s the addition of troll-able mechanics with no real way to enforce accountability barring doing things that grossly violate the spirit and rules of the game.

This would be the most elegant solution to a seriously flawed game mechanic. To account for the fact that far more than six players would use the bundles, they could have the effectiveness reduced by several orders of magnitude.

We could also use some sort of “Drop” from the Champions at these things….

I don’t mean more RNG coffers, no, I mean more stuff that helps beat the Event sooner.

  • Supply for building our own Siege like in WvW is one option…
  • Bundles that extend the time on the clock if a small team manages to escort them to a specific point without the carrier being downed. (kind of like CTF)

there’s probably lots of other options too for Anet to come up with…
…That they could also apply to Jormag since they removed loot from those champs

Yeah the event wouldn’t even be all that bad except for how it all hinges on the turrets; in concept I do not mind them one bit either, it is just the execution needs some extra iterations at the meeting room as to how to make this incredibly high profile and public relations affecting event more troll resistant.

Bundles are a good idea, then each person could feel their own individual input made a difference regardless of how they are specced.

A simpler alternative could be to add a turret or two – then the whole event would be less vulnerable to trolls/afk’ers.
If one more turret would make Teq too easy, then maybe their role is too pivotal in the first place.

Yeah having something the superflous ’zerker and condi specs can do outside of turret guarding would be nice too.

Edit: Another reason has been found why we should not be hamstrung by reliance on turrets alone:

Also, the fight might be less frustrating if when the timer was run out, Teq just reset to full health and the fight continued from there instead of failure followed by hours of blamestorming.

This really is the only solution to the turrets, but at the same time how do you balance it? The point of the turrets are to remove Tequatls armor and to remove the poison areas. If it’s a bundle that anyone can pick up both of those things become nothing. Even if they quadrupled the cooldown if you just got everyone who would be protecting the turrets to use that instead the armor would be cake and so would the poison.

Somehow the turrets still need to be in effect, but if they’re automated they could only be automated to drop armor, really, which still leaves buffing and poison removal in the hands of any number of people. Making both of the major problem mechanics, armor and poison, nonissues.

It just doesn’t seem like a balanced solution to the problem.

What about removing the armor piercing ability from the turrets and putting it on the bazookas, along with some new skills. The turrets could be healing and support, with a 1 skill that damages teq, and to replace the 2 skill, an aoe stability on a very long cooldown. The bazookas could be the enemy management, where you take off teq’s scales, and control the adds he spawns with stun, weaken, vulnerability, etc. There could even be a skill that does extra damage to teq’s fingers and/or the bloated creepers. In order to keep the challenge with his armored scales, he can grow scales 5-10x as fast.

“Carefully”

The point of the turrets are to remove Tequatls armor and to remove the poison areas. If it’s a bundle that anyone can pick up both of those things become nothing.

No it isn’t, to start off with you still need a LOT of dps to down Tequatl. Too many people with packs = not enough DPS. Additionally for the armor removal make it a condition stack on the dragon where one use from a pack adds 1 to the stack and when the stack maxes at 25 you remove a scale. From there it would be easy to balance.
For poison you could simply make it a small Self-AoE cleanse (240 range?) on a reasonable cooldown (20 sec?).
There are many things you could do.

Even if they quadrupled the cooldown if you just got everyone who would be protecting the turrets to use that instead the armor would be cake and so would the poison.

Not if they adjust the 2 skill on the packs to be prohibitive without losing lots of DPS as well. The point would give the battle some leeway with losing a turret or two to a noobie.

Somehow the turrets still need to be in effect, but if they’re automated they could only be automated to drop armor, really, which still leaves buffing and poison removal in the hands of any number of people. Making both of the major problem mechanics, armor and poison, nonissues.

It’s already barely sufficient with the turrets we have.
I already partially solved the issue with stacking packs above
Plus, the turret area is the part of the event that scales. Did you never notice that champs only spawn there when soo many people join?
That’s an easy way to balance that and it’s already present.

It just doesn’t seem like a balanced solution to the problem.

Think outside the Taco.

As already pointed out, packs would be self balancing in that every person on a pack is not dealing peak dps to the dragon. At that point you could leave them as powerful as the turrets, but with a shorter range; and the turrets would still be useful to have operational but not as trollable since alternatives exist.
