Need for instanced large group content
I like harder content – it’s thing I’m missing since WoW heroic ICC or whatever the mode was called. But it was instanced so i had my own team and i could control everything, it was fun and stuff…
Here I dont feel so optimistic, because it is yet another open world location – another larder for farmers who have forgotten how to play or can’t do that at all. Also if we fail – nothing’s lost I’ll just go farm something EASIER instead. Many people don’t like it hard way so make open world easy for them, just give them their precious loot. Moreover, after 2 tries it is obvious that turrets are IMPORTANT – and there are guys who in normal fights just spam 1 with bunch of minions to do their job -well, apparently minions won’t think for them, nor they will use turret correctly.
Hard content? Hell yes!
Hard content in open world when anyone can destroy your tactic? Hell no!
Yeah I don’t really play the game any longer – whaddya think I am doing on forums?
It’s been stated that they don’t want to do a lot of instanced content. This was part of the reasoning given for not implementing a ‘hard mode’ for dungeons. They feel if they add too much instancing, it splits the player base up too much, resulting in the inability to find people to play with. They want people out in the open world… from my understanding of what has been said.
And just to reiterate, if this is not intended to be a resolution toward the need for large group content much like raids etc., and it’s just another side development (and this can be proven with an Anet statement or a source to one), then I for one will gladly forget this issue and go about enjoying the new content.
Mike Z stated in an interview months ago that they were working on ‘raid like content’ but with the ‘guild wars touch.’ Nothing was really elaborated on. This could be that, it might not be. It was not stated whether that content would or would not be instanced.
“I then asked if they had add PvE content which may include more than 5 players , such as raids in other MMOs. Mike confirmed that they are currently working on this content, but it will be different from what we know about other games approach “Guild Wars 2 touch” on this facet of the game They take their time to this experience is innovative, creative and really fun for the players."

There is the further ‘raiding’ discussion in this thread which references a QA session in LA with Chris Whiteside, where he says essentially that they are working on it, and it will be unique. Again, could be referring to the world boss revamp, but I’m not thinking so. Again, nothing is mentioned as to whether or not any of this is instanced.
We have known since the blog post for the 2nd half of the year (before really) that they were revamping the world bosses to make them more challenging. We’ve known since the PAX preview that it would require teamwork and strategy.
I believe this is part of the resolution towards large group content. (Although nothing has been said definitively) At least a step in that direction, but I don’t think it’s the only thing they have up their sleeve based on the information we have (and don’t have).

Thank you for a very informative post Lanfear. Haven’t had the time to keep up on all of those discussions so it’s much appreciated.
Not a problem coehl.
Colin also touches on ‘large group content’ in his PAX interview . Right around 10:30. About how they want to put more guild support in. How they want to build events to ‘play as a community’ and to bring ‘your world together.’ To me, this seems very much like at least partly the answer to our desire for raid like content, while still keeping people in the open world, something Colin also touches on in this interview. He states is a really long path, and that Tequatl is just the first step on that path.
Edit: From my previous post, where I mentioned them not wanting to do a lot of instanced content, comes from this interview…Colin’s responses around 16:20 mark, when asked about HM for dungeons…

I hope Arena Net sticks to their guns on keeping the focus on the open world and not on instances. However, given their history on sticking to their artistic vision, I’m not holding out much hope.
Maybe they should just pop a portal that takes you to the event only when it’s time or something. And the portal should reject under-80s and blue gears and things like that. Instantly weed out all the AFKs and unprepared. This is not casual content or trolly troll fun times and they do need to handle that in some way.
They should add a portal named “Want raids? Enter here!” that teleports everyone who enters directly to World of Warcraft.
