I still think the timer is more for making sure all the servers (and overflows) are on the event at the same time and not overlapping. I don’t know if 15 minutes is necessary (I don’t see why it can’t be 30), but it seems to me like Arena.net wants to keep a tight schedule of appearances and downtime.

I’ve been doing old Teq nightly for months now, and I’ve never seen him be up for more than ten minutes. People don’t let Teq just sit around. There are a few events that tend to “coast” like some of the Temple events, but most events are over as fast as it’s reasonably possible to beat them. They do not need a timer to coordinate servers.

If it is a matter of him starting exactly X minutes after beating him, and then wanting them all on the exact same timer, then that shouldn’t be a problem. He seems to be on what, a 150 minute spawn timer at the moment I’ve heard? Just give him a 145 minute kill timer. If you fail, wait five minutes and you can do it all over again, but an hour and 25 minutes should give you a solid chance at it if you’ve got your act together, and I imagine most servers will have it done without difficulty in under 30 minutes at peak times. The full 145 minutes would only be needed for pick-up groups with less than ideal numbers.

I just think they got the Claw of Jormag timer and the Teq timer reversed. It only took 15 minutes out of 30 to kill Claw on my server, but in the same 15 minutes, teq ended consistently at above 75% after 15 minutes.

Yeah, we beat Claw with plenty to spare last night, although we had more than the usual number of players since the Champ-train joined in earlier than usual for the novelty of it. No idea how it would have gone with normal numbers.

Okay, I’m not crying about it. Difficulty increase is good. However this is a full map of people that genuinely tried for 15 minutes. Look where his health is at.

less zerker, more pvt

This. More partys and less solo “press 1 for cookie”. Finally content where zerg of 300 showing up is not engouh to trivialize fight into 1 min long auto att spam and this is reaction of players. This only show that a year of granted rewards for doing nothing but showing up can spoil everyone.

Teq will be beaten and it will finnaly mean something other than pinata busted. For this ArenaNet I thank you!

A simple failure mechanic is turret/battery life. If all 6 turrets die at any point, then the event fails. If all 3 batteries die, the event fails. It keeps with anet’s want to add more dynamics to events while not penalizing the userbase for not have 120 people in teamspeak…

I think the encounter is fun, but it has some design flaws. Since it’s an open word event it seems silly that the success of 80+ people to a vast extend depends on 6.
It is not as if you can vote someone out of a turret or vote for who is in them in the first place.

You can’t decide who is going head to head with Tequatl, 99% of the time there will be someone not familiar with the encounter.

I think maybe it would make sense to implement more turrets? The size of the add waves could be reduced a bit, so it would be possible to defend the extra turrets without having less people in the middle.

Each turret should become less powerful, but since there would be more of them, the success of everyone would not depend so much on whether or not you have top notch players controlling each turret.

If the majority of servers continue to have difficulties, I would think not having the closest waypoint contested would be an idea. I tried the encounter several times today, and before long, there were more people lying dead on the ground than people alive. People did not release and run back. If the waypoint had been right next to the encounter, odds are more would have.

I find the encounter interesting but I don’t think it is designed well for open world.

Wouldn’t it be a bit arrogant to presume that just because certain groups can’t do it, that something’s wrong with the encounter?

Maybe a little humility and consider that there’s a learning curve, and perhaps you’re all not as uber as you may think?

There’s already progress happening. Latest thread had it @ 50% (~4hrs after patch). I would wager that at this rate (and excluding any nerfs/buffs) it’ll be downed before tomorrow’s reset, and be on farm before the weekend.

For what it’s worth, I personally find the event rather daunting. But at the same time, I find it refreshing. Nice to have something to work for.

And with respect to all the complaints about the level of co-ordination required, there’s nothing egregious there. It’s a new event. Once players get more accustomed to the strategies demonstrated, and more importantly, optimize them, the degree of co-ordination will also subside.

I only hope ANet also will take note. I expect a future revamped Claw of Jormag to take at least 24hrs before it’s downed

Teq is a 15 minute fight for the first phase… if you have time to wipe on him for 15 minutes you have time to clear CoF which is usually less time… quit trolling. -_-

seriously not trolling. Sometimes you log on for enough time for either Tequatl or CoF.

I am really amazed and shocked to see that a person from my server used the word “nerf” as a topic for Teq 2.0 . Being one of the biggest PvE servers in EU, people should be thinking positively, let us do it before Desolation or that kinda stuff. It’s not been 24 hours yet and Blackgate has done it, and they are a T1 WvW server. So it means a group of organized people can do it. Finally something challenging comes and people started the “nerf” cry within the 12 hour mark lol. Best you could ask ..is for better reward maybe , depending on the difficulty. It will be nerfed eventually, as nothing stays challenging in GW2 sadly. So I’d say learn the mechanics, try and eventually defeat it and you can say UW did it. Don’t worry about one autoattack-dodge-2rares boss as there are plenty of facerolls, like maw or behemoth. Let people get more organized on an event as it’s just been released. And don’t make Underworld known as Farming server from a PvE server. :/

Did I ever ask for an auto attack boss? I’m asking for something that we could either actually beat or that wouldn’t cost 20 silver a try. I’m just disappointed that from now on I’ll probably never get to actually finish Tequatl again even if we try again and again. Or I could just go to Blackgate, like most people will do.

XD..you could say some American server glory hunters might transfer to Blackgate for the league rewards, but that’s whole other thing. Like I will probably do the Teq event with my guild and some other guild maybe, being on TS organized..so not worried at all.

Underworld is trying to organize itself up, then guest to medium server to beat him where there’s less overflows. The thing is Tequatl used to be doable daily. Now it’s a guild event that we can organize once or twice. What I mostly dislike about him is that he is not instanced (we should be able to organize an 80 man party with no AFK people that upscale it) and that it’s too hard to do unless you’re on TS.

Hamidon Raids in City of Heroes required a significant amount of players and a similar level of coordination. When they revamped Hami Raids to be more difficult and engaging, it took some time for the players to puzzle out how to take him down. The players pulled together, worked together, kept at it, learned the new mechanics and nuances. And once they figured it out, they were able to take Hami down consistently and reliably.

The GW2 playerbase still needs a chance to puzzle Teq 2.0 out. Don’t let less than a day of playing dictate whether or not the new Teq is impossible.

It was the same in STO when they released the first pseudo-raid (“The Hive”) in years. People were instantly lighting up the forums bemoaning that it was impossible and needs toning down. You would face something analogous to twelve or thirteen Lupis that you’d need to burn down within a short time limit.

Within a day or two it was doable. Organized groups realized it was a simple DPS check and smashed it first time, and even PUGs can handle it happily with at least one solid DPS team member or even just a tough mob anchor. Today it’s farmed for endgame gear and those cries that it was broken are long forgotten.

I enjoyed Liadri as well quite a lot, I hope this is just the first in a string of legitimately difficult releases!

Yes, we got to 60% by NOT learning the mechanics -_-
Stop assuming things about people. On big servers even with organized united guilds on TS it’s still most definitely hard. We’re even giving people potions of undead slaying and food. And still if not everyone is 100% in exotics, not everyone is level 80 or not everyone is in pure power build (conditioners are slowing down the damage by capping each other) it’s still kitten impossible.
And on top of that if you fail you have to camp the map for 2 hours, else you’ll get into an overflow.

Teq is unfarmable and totally unworthy to kill. When the majority of players will take their achievements, new commers will be unable to make it and as a result begin to complain on forums.
This boss require TOO much efforts, preparations, spending and coordination for just a chance on ascended weapon that probably wont fit to your characters. And btw those skins arent new but just a lame recolor.

See the positive side of this: price for undead slaying runes and pots have skyrocketed.

About to try again. Had 55 people on TS, had about 5 big guilds of the server, so YES this is the BEST we can do. If we won’t manage it better, we won’t manage it better. The thing is there was commanding, there was defending, there was attacking. In the end we ended up with too little people on the turrets defending, therefore at the very end the turrets fell. It’s a balancing act. A very precise one.

Commanders were absolutely fine, AFK noobs are killing us though. For example I had to grab a turret, because our turrets were literally AFK for 5 minutes this time just to troll. Randoms can ruin this so fast. It would be so much better if it was instanced. In the end the combined attack on Tequatl failed miserably on UW. It kind of means that we might now need to team with other server guilds, go to low pop servers and beat him there.

If you want your easy boss farm where you only press “11111111” and a few minutes later you get your loot, maybe its time you learned how to use THE OTHER KEYS, and actually PLAY the game.

So please, if you can’t appreciate Tequatl’s upgrade, and the work that ANET put into making it more dynamic and challenging.

Tequatl is a world boss where randoms come in, curse at your TS, die and stay there just to upscale it for you. What a great world boss design!

If you want your easy boss farm where you only press “11111111” and a few minutes later you get your loot, please just leave or kitten.

Where do you see people asking for that? They’re asking for 1. Either for it to be organized guild’s raid content in a closed instance where randoms could not upscale 2. Or to get more turrets so that trolls could make it fail less 3. Make it so that the people could be booted off the turrets by commanders 4. Nerf his health by 50% so not just a few select servers could beat him 5. Make sure that average level 65 player in the zone would be able to participate instead of being seen like a burden gimper because we need more DPS.

Can you honestly say you’ve EVER seen even 100 people in a zerg.

I’ve been playing since launch and I have yet to see a screen so full it is undoubtedly at least 100 people.

So many times I’ve seen people say our zerg is 100+ and I get there and its maybe 40. Counting is hard….

Tequatl is not too hard, the majority of the players have just gotten too spoiled by the easy boss farms. You hardly even needed to dodge anything with the old bosses, and needed NO strategy at all.

Yes, Tequatl is great boss world design! Tequatl doesn’t need a nerf. The average player just needs to learn how to THINK, and LISTEN (Things that are taught as early as Preschool). If you can’t do either, I think you need to do some educational backtracking.

Getting ready for the 3rd Tequatl attempt on UW today. We no longer have support of the biggest guilds, due to them not having 5 friggin hours for a dragon. It will most likely fail YET AGAIN.
Also mister if Tequatl is so easy what server are you on and how many times have you beaten him?

I love how if anyone says Teq is too hard, there are automatic assumptions made by the Gods of Gaming on this forum:
1) you want things handed to you
2) you want to just press 111111
3) you are a crybaby
4) you don’t know how to do the simplest things in this game

No I assure you, Greatest Gamers to Ever Live, we know how to play, and we know how to play quite well. We simply don’t feel the need to try and convince people how great we are by insisting this entire game has been soooooo easy up until this point, and that only if the entire rest of the game was this hard would it be worth our time.

No see, we possess this thing called “reasonableness”. We want challenging content. We just don’t want it mixed in with content that should be playable by everyone at any time.

3rd Teq attempt on UW. We just can’t get any further. Solved the turret problem by sitting on them for hours, but we just don’t have that zerker DPS to take him down fast enough.
I think I’m just about done today. Wasted all the time that I ever had. Really it needs a nerf.

Enough already. It’s time for games to stop holding everyone’s hand and people actually start learning how to play. I am so tired of seeing zerg spam events go constantly.

People are just too used to Akitteng at the dragon’s arm-pit and auto-attacking. Give them time to break the habit and eventually you’ll see success.

3rd Teq attempt on UW. We just can’t get any further. Solved the turret problem by sitting on them for hours, but we just don’t have that zerker DPS to take him down fast enough.
I think I’m just about done today. Wasted all the time that I ever had. Really it needs a nerf.

You guys have made some pretty solid progress from your previous attempts and you guys should be really proud of the progress you’ve made so far (not sarcasm, totally genuine). Have you taken a look at the videos from Blackgate and Desolation for ideas on how you guys can refine your strategy? There are probably some nuggets in those videos that may help you guys out.

The TIMER has to be nerfed, not the actual FIGHT

Nerfing the timer would be nerfing the fight.

Except it wouldn’t be. He’d still be hitting hard and you’d still be fighting against the timer. Making it 30 minutes instead of 15 wouldn’t change a kitten thing. Hell, it still may not be enough time, considering for those that get him down to 80% in 15 minutes have 15 more minutes to maybe get him down just under 50%. Those of us getting him just at 70% at 15 minutes now have 15 more minutes to possibly get him below 25%.

You get what I’m saying? It wouldn’t make this fight any easier, it would just give you more time to do it in. Though I want them to change failing the battery defense to an automatic Teq boss failure. That way you can’t mess up on defense.

4th try. Morale by now is running low. Very low. People are getting frustrated and end up blaming each other. Some decide to leave mid fight because “we can’t do it” making it even harder for us. It’s borderline nighttime by now. Though I guess it’s somewhat an achievement that UW is still doing about the same amount of damage at nighttime as we did at day time. This time one of the mistakes was that the zerg was too far away for 3 out of 6 turrets to buff them.
If anyone has nothing to do and is on EU, you’re free to guest, join my party and get into the regular map (if you can), though we would appreciate helpful active people. We have enough AFKers on our end as it is.

Black Gate server has done it, so it can be done. I think a Nerf at this point would be useful if applied correctly. Increasing turret stats/Dmg or reducing Teqs output Dmg would be good suggestions. The fight is very hard, but should scale to the number of people at the fight.

I would also like to see some drops from Veterans and Champs that you fight while defending the turrets. Seems like it would draw more people if there was more reward to the activity.

Not a good idea. They’d farm the champions and not kill Teq. Frostgorge Sound and Scarlet’s Invasions have proved this.

Not a good idea. They’d farm the champions and not kill Teq. Frostgorge Sound and Scarlet’s Invasions have proved this.

Maybe, but something in the way of a “Runner up” prize would be nice.

What if you don’t have half the map willing to change their armor just for this event?

Bad idea. You don’t want many people defending the cannons. This actually increases the chances one of the cannoneers will be killed/cannon destroyed, and lowers DPS on Teq. 5-man defence group per one cannon battery should be enough. They can be bunker builds, because it doesn’t matter whether they will be killing attacking mobs (those respawn right away), as long as they keep them on themselves and not cannons.

It counts for a lot if you’re defending turrets which is what you should be doing as a zerker. Trying to do that in PVT gear is a quick way to fail the event.

But yeah, you want PVT on Teq himself. Problem is that most people aren’t willing to grind out another set just for one event.

After the 5th try. After 8 agonizing hours. You know what? Screw it. Tequatl just isn’t fun when you fail his as often as you do. Thank you all that tried with us though.
