New Player Outreach Thread
I thought that GW2 is a casual game and that world bosses are accessible to the masses and not only to the top elite.
I thought casual isn’t the same as being stupid.
Exactly this. Casual players can contribute to this event easily- it doesn’t take long at all to pick up on using/defending turrets.
Being a casual player is not an excuse for playing lazily and expecting the same rewards, and tbh I find it insulting towards the general casual playerbase when people say it. Just like not all hardcore players are elitist jerks, not all casuals are incompetent. And just as some hardcore players need to stop making other hardcore players look like jerks, some casual players need to stop making other casuals look incompetent.
Dont nerf it, make it harder is too easy.

The original quote:
Coordinate and win. Get 40 people organised and go to an overflow after it finished.
I think this boss is easy if organised well.If they nerf this, it’ll be the ultimate stamp on gw2 “casual game”.
Essentially if you’re not in a big guild and are not organizing with them some people think that you’re not entitled to ever beating it.
So it’s good to scare new players away? It’s a leveling zone for goodness sake!
Some will, some won’t. Those that want the challenge will not be scared away. Those that are easily discourged, well, if it’s not Teq, it’ll be Lupi, or it’ll be some jumping puzzle somewhere.
How about you cut out the pain and just put it in the instance? Remember the update that made The claw not Pew Pewable by just stacking in one area at part 2? Well I’ve still seen plenty of stackers there a few days ago.
Yes, they’re still there, but people that bothered to learn can compensate for them. As the same idiots will eventually be compensated for @ Teq.
Not a fan of instancing as that’d be potentially even more limiting. Perhaps if it’s an option in LFG, but not until.
I’ve carried level 29 trough AC P1 and 3 no prob. Teq is far worse.
Then you should know that scaling does work as intended, so, being 80/exo/asc isn’t necessary. Skill & knowledge over equip.

You do not need to be in a big guild to coordinate with others. Take stock of the situation and pitch in where needed.
I circle around the turrets and move over them to see their health. If I notice one’s dented, I grab a hammer and do repairs. If a gunner is low on health, I drop heals on them. If I see adds coming in, I run out to kill them and defend the turrets. If everything’s all right by the turrets, I run out to the boss and attack, while paying attention to chat and glancing at the turrets time to time to make sure everything’s all right. I do all this without being in a guild or even a preassigned group. It’s all about personal initiative.
In Ehmry Bay we’ve got the teamspeak going to help with this. So far we think we have a strategy going, but we’ll find out soon enough.
Underworld is full of players that want an easy time. This is fine with me. But instead of claiming that it needs a nerf is just defeatism. It’s supposed to take some time to defeat him, learn the ropes and kick some kitten .
The same thing happened to the Queen Karka the other day, which was left alone for a long time until one Commander thought it was enough and we needed to organize ourselves. and BAM it happened.
Tequatl is a step higher for our server, sure. But instead of sitting here on the forums crying that you can’t defeat him the first day is not right. Instead of sitting down and crying, stand up and fight. Get pummelled down, then stand up and try again. And again. Know that you will get defeated, but also know that you know where and why you did. Step up your game.
And, it might be a weak argument, but don’t fight Tequatl if you think it’s stupid, lame and annoying. That’s not the right spirit to bring to Tequatl. Don’t play what you don’t like. Instead join in with all the other world bosses. Those are still relatively easy to do, and give much more immediate rewards as well.
It’s an MMO, there’s multitudes of types content in the game, and some you like and some you don’t.
And to be honest, this really applies to all other servers and players that get demoralized by defeat.

To your post all I can say – I did stand up to fight. Again and again and again and again. And it was very costly. 40 silver is a big deal sometimes. So I simply won’t do it again. Now what if the rest of the player base will think so? How great is it to have a boss that nobody does?
stop being lazy and learn the fight? first challenge in gw2. Stop whining and start learning the boss
I know the fight. I was there for the stream. Other people trying it also knew the fight. When even Beta people can’t take the boss down, there’s something wrong with the boss.
Wouldn’t it be a bit arrogant to presume that just because certain groups can’t do it, that something’s wrong with the encounter?
Maybe a little humility and consider that there’s a learning curve, and perhaps you’re all not as uber as you may think?
There’s already progress happening. Latest thread had it @ 50% (~4hrs after patch). I would wager that at this rate (and excluding any nerfs/buffs) it’ll be downed before tomorrow’s reset, and be on farm before the weekend.
—second quote – same user—
PvE is for everyone. But success isn’t.
After a while, it’ll only be natural that those that aren’t up for it will naturally shy away from this event.
Then organized groups will start to work it. “Noobs” will slowly start coming back into it, get knowledgeable, and then be able to spread it.
It’s a natural process. And there’s no reason why it shouldn’t take some time.
And I have no doubt that if properly equipped, the event would be level appropriate (AC revamp anyone?).
This, this and this. It has made me warm. Great posts.

Not everyone is as easily discouraged as you. Go run CoF. You just made your 40 silver back plus some.

Because we all have time for everything in one day, do we?
Also I hope that not everyone is as easily discouraged. Else it will be yet another forgotten event.
kitten , we got him almost to 25% this time when time ran out. We’re definitely getting better…but again, 30 minutes instead of 15 would make this go smoother.
Mirta.5029Because we all have time for everything in one day, do we?
CoF takes practically no time at all, plus this isn’t a race. Nobody said you need to do it all in a day. Relax, it’s only a game.

CoF p1 takes less time than Tequatl. Infact its the shortest dungeon in the game. Its entirely possble to do CoF p1 twice in the same time as one teq encouter. Time constraint complaint rendered null and void.
Instancing would suck. Can you imagine being kicked 14 1/2 minutes into a successful fight?
Yak’s Bend got to the lazer events just now.
Guys relax teqtl is to easy i 1 shot him yesterday. I think they need to buff him more to make him more challenging.

Tequatl only got done by 5-10 people over two weeks ago before he gave dragonite ore. I had a friend doing it all the time saying “Oh hey theres yet again only 10 people at Tequatl.” Except in this state he actually serves a purpose, it serves that seemingly insurmountable challenge. Something that might keep you intrigued or something you totally don’t want to participate in.
Now he’s updated, people that don’t like raids won’t do him. You’re right. But I think that’s completely fine. You really shouldn’t do something you don’t like. You can’t just sit here and expect that everything the game is for you.
That and you might have overdone it a little. Take a break, think on your strategies (or listen to other people’s and try again another day.
I have to agree. 4 attempts and we’re only getting a few percent better each time. The learning curve is flattening out. I can understand not wanting to release soemthing too easy and then making it harder. It makes sense to ease up once they see how it goes when the patch is live.
I tried to talk strategy before each attempt, and I talked to others about how to learn after each attempt, but it isn’t working. The event should take into consideration human nature, and not expect human nature to adapt to the requirements of the event. Each map will have newbs and we can’t control them, as hard as we try. Nor can we control people who are unwilling to WP or those rezzing defeated. Those of us that are doing it right are meeting the same loss as those doing it wrong. That’s why we can’t have challenging things.
I am going to wait for a nerf before trying again. Either uncontest the waypoint or reduce health.
That and you might have overdone it a little. Take a break, think on your strategies (or listen to other people’s and try again another day.
Tried again just right now for the 3rd time. Someone almost got a heart attack from screaming at the cannoners to clean poison clouds. We got him to 85% before he flew away. Better organization, but I feel like Underworld will never make it :/
Yeah, this thing needs a nerf. I like difficult content, because I’m a really hardcore player, but after organizing about 200 people by dividing a certain amount for each turret/mega-laser, and then only getting him to about 80%, I feel depressed.
I even had 3 commanders on each turret, and 1 commander fighting Teq directly so people would know where to gather. There were still those genius’s that left the turrets to go and help fight Teq who killed them the moment they stepped into his poison rings after I repeatedly told them, “Don’t go there, you’ll die by the poison rings”. I laughed a lot during that fight.
All in all though, I still felt like we were organized and doing well until Teq wiped everyone out in one swipe and then flew away.
This fight needs to be difficult, not impossible. I even saw some Anet players that were standing and helping us fight. I could almost visibly see them shaking their heads when we only got him to 80%.

People on the turrets should be removing the poison, thats the whole point of #3 skill.
And Anet was there helping? Really?
Na, dont buy it.

“Wide Charr” was helping on the turrets. He said something to the effect of, “We need to take down the bone walls with the turrets, otherwise he’ll kill us and then we won’t finish for sure”.
And yes, I repeatedly told the turrets to cleanse the poison, but they instead decided it was best to help kill Teq directly by running to their death for some odd reason, and abandoning the turrets so there was nobody to use them.
it might not matter if you have 50 ppl who know the fight are there, if 6 ppl on cannons don’t. I think that is probably the issue.
This, so very much this, why should 50 or 60 or 70 people fail just because of 6 people?
Needs a nerf. World bosses should be somewhat challenging, but not next to impossible.
Think about it, whats going to happen when the fun wears off? This will never be downed…. and that’s just silly.
If they wanna make things hard, make it instanced and let guilds / hardcore players have that. From a solo players perspective, this is just silly and a waste of my time.
It’s kitten first day and you say it’s next to impossible. If any server haven’t beat him in month you can start to whine.
It’s kitten first day and you say it’s next to impossible.
Scarlet was beaten on the first day with concentration. Pretty sure that people managed to get to Liandri on the first day. Right now is the time that we have the most people doing it. We should be able to succeed.

Why should we waste a month? a lot can happen in a month.
I’m not saying it should be a cake walk, but eighty plus people should be able to scratch it, without having to rely on six people not mucking things up.

Thats because ;
Teq atm has mechanics that require teamwork and skill. Both of which are in short supply imo. With practice it will be done, in time the majority will win the event.
- Scarlet was a mass zerg event, with zero actual mechanics involved.
Yes, that’s why besides the first day barely any server has gotten to the actual Scarlet fight?

Because this is a PvE world meta event and not a instance or WvW scenario you will have bigtime difficulty organizing people to do the mechanics properly. On top of that there are servers that have done the mechanics properly and didn’t even get him down to 1/2 hp.
If this was an instance I could understand it being done but not in an open world meta..

What? Gandara has scarlet wipped the second time it ran on patch day. I dont know what server you were on or timezone but your statement is in no way accurate.

take note on the *besides the first day. First day people were focused, but it still took good commanding.

Eh? That was because of pirate farms, you could complete the event and get five gear bags, or you could get thirty five by failing it andjust spending twenty minute farming pirate champs.
Way, way too early to be talking nerf, though I can’t say I’m surprised. Just give it time. Enough people will get a handle on how Teq 2.0 should be handled, and once that happens the whole encounter should become more manageable. It is permanent content, so lets all just slow the heck down and not be in such a hurry.
Not even half a day old and some people already whine.
Believe it or not, but there are games where you’re not expected to beat the content on the very first try.

Believe it or not, but I do own those kind of games. They don’t depend on 80 randoms though from which 6 can make sure that you fail.

No it wasnt. People keep bandying about this myth that farmers made the event fail. The event was easily farmable AND winnable if people bothered to play the content. Those that didnt want to farm, went for Minions those that did went after aeithers and molten shaman. In between both groups would attack the minion groups.
Instead what actually happened was that people would turn up late at night, complain about people “farming”, then leave. In prime time the event was almost always finished to a victory in the first week. The second week was different primarily because the majority of people no longer cared about “winning” becuase they had done so multiple times already.
I’m going to give them some credit and assume that a big part of the failure rate right now is people don’t know how to play this.
Give it time. GW1 had a lot of high level content you had to either figure out or fail. It’s nice to see something like that.
There is a huge difference between open world content and instanced content
Give it a month and guilds and players will learn the encounter and like all encounters in every mmo ever, the fight will just end up like a choreographed dance and people will check out mentally while they go through the motions. It seems hard right now but I assure you even you will be able to do this fight simply through muscle memory in two months time.
And nerf the disconnects!!! I never had a problem before this update. I disconnect when rezzing someone, when using a waypoint, etc. Not every time, but often.
Worst attempt to far. This is what happens when dedicated guilds leave and you’re left with randoms. This is probably how it will look in a few weeks also.
I give to you – Tequatl at nighttime. Not damaged. In all of his glory!

Exactly this. These kind of challenges should be isolated to guild groups. I like a small challenge, not the Everest of challenges.
Whats going to happen when everyone gets over this? Wheres poor teq left then, and where are the people who still want to down it? Yeh, up kitten creek.
He doesn’t need a nerf after ONE day. People need to learn how each part works to help take him down. Keep him as is. Everyone else that’s complaining after ONE day l2p against him. Just fought him for the first time and yea we lost. Fought him up close and personal and did fine. Next time I’m going to learn the about how the lasers work and try for those.

You mean the cannons? The cannoners are responsible for keeping his stacks down with 2, cleaning poison, keeping bone walls at bay. By now Tequatl was up 6 times. For a lot of servers the learning curve has went down. Best try by Underworld – 85 health. Best try in total so far goes to Blacktide – downed him to 60% by having a whole guild coordinating and a few randoms just kitten ing and getting in their way. Beta testers did not beat him once in all the month that they got to test him.
In all honesty i am not one for jumping on the nerf bandwagon but i believe that he does need to be nerfed in this case.
Watch that video by skipping through, you’ll notice that the Dev’s and the people they have allowed to trial it who know the tactics get it to 75%, this is with cheating as a dev uses something to chunk massive amounts of HP off him at one point and then the timer runs out.
The problem isn’t with the dragon, it’s the timer. 15 minutes to do the whole fight is not long enough. It should be 15 minutes for each 25% of his HP, if you reach 75% then you get another 15 minutes added to your time and if not then you fail. But when devs have to cheat in a preview to show it off then there is a problem.
Hamidon Raids in City of Heroes required a significant amount of players and a similar level of coordination. When they revamped Hami Raids to be more difficult and engaging, it took some time for the players to puzzle out how to take him down. The players pulled together, worked together, kept at it, learned the new mechanics and nuances. And once they figured it out, they were able to take Hami down consistently and reliably.
The GW2 playerbase still needs a chance to puzzle Teq 2.0 out. Don’t let less than a day of playing dictate whether or not the new Teq is impossible.

I was part of that sneak peak. Please keep in mind the following…
*The developer intervention seemed to be only just enough to progress the event along so they could show off the whole event for the live stream.
*There were three groups of 20 people each participating who had never experienced the content before.
*The number of people we had participating was nowhere near the 80 players the devs said they though would be needed to take Teq down.
*We players were playing with a bunch of people we had never played with before and playing mechanics we had never encountered before.
*Many of us players didn’t have any time to digest the new mechanics.
*Many players didn’t have time to familiarize ourselves with the LFG tool and take advantage of it before we had to jump into the fray.
*We players were dumped onto pre-generated characters and many of us were playing unfamiliar builds. Most folks barely had a chance to swap out to different weapon sets.
*All the pre-made characters were on accounts with keybinds set to default, which very much felt like playing with your hands tied behind your back if you rely heavily on customized keybinds.
Due to the above factors, the Anniversary Bash sneak peek is NOT good support/evidence for nerfing Teq 2.0.

What you’re talking about is a raid. Were people enter with an organized group. Not a PVE mob where there’s lots of randoms upscaling it.
Please don’t nerf this event. For once content that’s not on farm an hour after release. This is refreshing! Failing and learning…what a concept. Open world coordination, communication, cooperation required. More like this ArenaNet!
If you’re on Blackgate ask about the BGTS in map chat
