Overflow Fiasco
It’s probably harder than it sounds even though the game knows how many overflows there are, knows where your friends are and also allows you to jump to them.
It’s not at all technically “hard”, it’s just a (chosen) design implementation.
Arena Net wanted overflow servers to be like they are. The idea behind that is that you shouldn’t take care of where you are. You just TP to that area, there you are, being on the “main map” or an overflow server is not supposed to be of any concern. It’s the concept of “open world” vs “instanciated servers”.
(of course, any players that already have been put in an overflow server for Jormag or Tequatl knows that those assumptions are totaly wrong in game)

Yes, you “shouldn’t” take care of where you are. Which is why you would automatically put in the lowest-populated district. But let it be an option for large groups of players who actually want to organize.
I guess they are so mortally horrified of people turning this into a quasi “instanced raid” and creating WoW 2.0 that they’re deliberately crippling user experience.

What, they are doing this except it takes extra effort to get the system to create a new overflow and once they got one person in the new overflow they use the /join and get only the people they want in for the try. Once they leave the other overflow anyone else who comes in that is not part of the coordination will get stuck with all the AFK’s left in that Overflow.
Why not just make numbered and selectable districts for overflows, like in GW1? Is it really that hard?
And if the district you want to get in is full, you can’t get in. Overflows are working as intended.
the overflow system is extremely bad. Frankly the district system from GW1 provided for similar interactions that GW2 has: you can teleport and be on the “main” area without any problem, if its full you go to the next available overflow.
If we had a system similar to gw1 we could force an instanced overflow where you could get cooperation. This would be extremely beneficial if more tequalt type events are being planed; this would allow far easier planning than having to abuse the party join system to force your way into a overflow.
I’m tired of getting into overflow, overflow, overflow then fail, fail, fail. I have 3/10 for this event and without beating teq even once i have no chance at progression. This is compounded by the overflow problem. At the minute, i am camping sparkfly fen on my home server with over an hour to go, just so i have a chance at doing it in a vaguely organised manner.
Is this really what ANET wants? How can they have an event like this (requiring lots of people, coordination etc) and not increase the map size to compensate for the inevitable login rush as most of the server tries to get the LS achievements?
I actually don’t have much hope of finishing this event as my expectations have been hammered into the ground.
