Ranger pets can not survive
I would suggest chilling back with the turrets and keeping the risen / fingers off them. I’m using the spiders and my pets weren’t even in a situation where I couldn’t swap to keep them alive.
But yeah, I can see that being a problem down at Teq’s feet.
In case you didn’t get the memo yet, they don’t care about rangers or their pets- otherwise there wouldn’t be a cooldown before you can summon one when both die within seconds.

Just so long as the developers don’t think that ^ is all rangers want to do in the fight.
honestly i would say make the pet perma stowable, whether my ranger gets back that horrid dps nerf or not, there are many situations where the presence of the thing, living or dead is a problem, while regaining that 1k+ every 2 seconds that most of my pet choices seem to do would be excellent, i really would prefer not even look at the limping animal in fights like this…least we don’t have to position him (mai trin..fufufufufufufufuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu)

If a ranger can keep a jaguar alive and runs the right build, the DPS can reach roughly warrior levels.
If a ranger pet can survive while the ranger uses a bow then you’re still looking at some high DPS from a safe range. (This works really well in PvP)
Both would be very useful against Tequatl.

doesn’t help the poison aoes and mass foes wipe the pets out pretty fast. I said the same thing in my earlier thread and have been saying that since, what feels like the anti ranger design of these various dungeon/boss encounters. Molten Facility. Aether Pirate dungeon etc.. Pets are a liability not a strength.
On a related note so is the fact that rangers get 1 source of stability and it’s an elite with a long refresh. If encounters are going to be designed with stability type things in mind (all the numerous stuns and junk) then EVERY class needs more then 1 stability utility and not an elite. Warriors have it great, Rangers get the end of the stick that was swirled in dog crap. Necro’s arent’ much better in that department either as they have 2 elites with stability and that’s it.
Back to Pets. They do need to be immune to boss aoe damage or at least take a huge amount less of said damage. They don’t dodge, they don’t respond well, they put you in combat if hit by any foe, they don’t attack inanimate objects half the time, the ranged pets run up to the enemy to fire off their abilites….LIABILITY!
Mesmers and Rangers are just unwelcome in this fight apparently.

See this is a huge problem in the basic game design. If 2 or 3 classes basic class mechanic makes them unsuitable for the new design mantra for boss encounters then there is a larger issue at hand here that needs to be addressed.
I just put them on passive and use moa for protection and pig for forage. Don’t even bother sending your pet in to fight.

that still nerfs our damage because we give up damage for having a pet….something like 40% or so.
Ah. The curse of playing a ranger in PvE. The extreme squishyness of the pets to boss attacks they cannot avoid and AoE circles they stand in the middle of.
Main: Caeimhe – Sylvari Ranger
Alts: Charr Guardian, Asura Elementalist, Human Thief, Norn Necromancer
Stick with defending turrets. I’m on one all the time during the new Teq fights, with my pet on passive so I can give myself regen when needed.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald

again with pet on passive you lose all it’s damage and all you get in return is a piddly buff on a longish refresh timer (f2).
ON TURRET. What part of ON TURRET don’t you understand? It means I’m not the one attacking, I’m the one throwing support skills on the zerg from far off.

There’s more than 1 ranger in a zerg, ^

just how are you on a turret and defending a turret with a pet on passive? you make no sense whatsoever and the chance of even getting on one of the 6 turrets is pretty kitten small and still doesn’t address the issues rangers have in these kinds of fights. “oh just get on a enviornment weapon and your ranger is ok.” that’s not an answer.
Given that the ranger LB actually does a ton of damage to Teq, (a lot more than the SB for some reason) I think rangers are plenty valuable up in the stacks.
So pets should have been balanced accordingly.
