So if you beat Teq...
I say yes. Been trying this since it came out, well over 14 hours put into planning and prep before we finally killed it tonight. The rewards itself were nothing to brag about. Couple of blues, 2 rares, and someone got an ascended weapon. One person.
All in all the loot was crap, but as I posted in another thread, the server banding together and beating a dragon together, it was well worth it to finally see it die. Even if the tangible rewards were kitten .

I have mixed feelings. When I first killed him it was a ‘Yess!’ moment, but mostly relief. Like the relief of leaving the dentist/hospital after a long procedure knowing you never need to go back…
The reasons for me feeling like that is nothing to do with the difficulty or the mechanics of the fight. But it’s all the hoops and waiting needing to be endured by the player to get there, play with your friends and then dodge the whims of fate with AFK and griefers.
If it wasn’t for the daily or the achievements the place would not be as busy as it is.
How many people are going to want to sit around for 4-10 hours every day getting everyone organised so they can have a 15 minute fight that can be completely derailed by one person on a turret d/cing/trolling/etc.?
How about next week, still planning on spending all your time ingame sitting around doing nothing? Next month?
When a game becomes more boring than a job there is something seriously wrong with the content.
Are the rewards worth it? In those 6 hours you spent failing the boss I collected 30-40 ori ore, 35 ancients woods, did my daily, killed some temples, other bosses, completed another section of map and did some wvw and enjoyed my leisure time.
Standing around doing nothing for hours on end isn’t my idea of fun.
Ahhh no I can’t wait to run him again. My server is jazzed up about content like this that’s actually challenging and fun. Can’t wait for more. We will be doing at least weekly runs on Teq.

It wasn’t very rewarding.
You’re basically at the mercy of your server. All depends on how many people you have, and how much effort they put forth ( a lot of times none, since they’re AFK/dead ).
The strategy isn’t hard at all. It’s just frustrating watching the first shockwave go out and a dozen people die. . .
Standing around doing nothing for hours on end isn’t my idea of fun.
Nor is it mine. It’s only logical that this is one of the worst ways to spend your time. The more failures I endure, the less fun I’m having. Not even my favorite champ farming can cheer me up.
Nevertheless congratulations on both your Teq kills Shan and Pwner. My concern is that I would very much like to organize another attempt, but the removal of joining a party member’s overflow has shut our guilds out from organizing anywhere but the main channel. And of course the main channel is where -everyone- parks their kitten, crossing their fingers for an attempted kill. Having said that, it’s just too easy to exclude a major chunk of the server population (who want it) from getting the kill.
For example if two core guilds made up 60% of the map to ensure competent people on turrets/DPS, 40% of the randoms were just -extremely- lucky to camp out/get in. If you’re an unlucky fellow, you might as well wait a week for the campers to get their kill before you camp main channel yourself.
It wasnt rewarding.
Sure there was an awesome moment when I did kill Tequatl and got the Meta achievement….
BUT knowing that I spend the best of 4 days attempting to kill it getting little to no reward and then having to wait long hours in fear of losing my spot in the non-overflow at the chance to kill it again instead of playing makes me feel extremely bad. Heck just about anything else couldve been done in the time spent killing tequatl and It wouldve been less of a waste of time.
Yesterday was the first time since release that I managed to get in the home map, where there is the organisation needed to have any chance to win. Having got that spot I then spent most of the evening idling around as it took 3 attempts to get all achieves (win was 2nd attempt) and you dare not leave map between fights as you will not get back in. I had guildies trying to join me in the instance all evening but they could not get in.
Any attempt to just map in when event is due puts you in an overflow, and they don’t get anywhere at all. Hanging around after an event does not offer you home map transfer due to all the folks doing what I had to do and staying in that home map for next try. So I don’t see any point in ever trying Teq again unless I want to give up another Saturday afternoon to waiting around until I get in and then waiting around for the win event.
The rewards I got are no better than I get from any other boss event or champ farming, so I really can’t imagine wasting that much time again just to get a couple of rares and some champ bags. If there was a guaranteed worthy reward I would understand why folks might want to repeat, but with average loot only the time investment needed is too large. The loot may seem reasonable if considering it as a 15minute event, but it doesn’t allow for the hours spent trying to get in, waiting around, failing, till the win eventually comes.
I did really enjoy winning at least once. It was good to be part of that experience of so many coming together to achieve it. It felt good to be in that achievement. But that’s done now, won’t feel that good after the first time.
tl;dr – The lack of worthy rewards means I won’t be spending all those hours of time investment needed to get another win.
I killed him and still go back, the encounter is fun for me. I do find the rewards very slightly on the low side, would buff them with a few more mats and more exotic boxes, especially one for the blue dragon chest. I dont think any change like tokens or guarenteed ascended items are a good idea.
I expect to keep killing him from time to time (not every day, repetition of everything breeds boredom) and I expect that to get easier as the weeks pass, because the ratio of participants vs bystanders (afks, trolls, dead and not wp’ing) will change.
For me, when we got him down first time it was awesome. I didnt get anything except 1g and few greens. After few more Taco deaths it becomes boring and not rewarding. So yeah, if arenanet gives us more rewards for this it would be awesome. But reward wise this just FAILS. Not worth the effort at all
I do have to say… what I got in the boxes, was nothing special. My daily guaranteed yellow and some salvage-fodder. (Hey, at least I got some luck!)
But… I was there. I mean… I was there. Took my server until Friday to finally down Teq, and I was there.
Maybe it’s because I was late to the mmo-world, or because I wasn’t born for Woodstock, I don’t know… but it has a special feeling, being there when something brand new gets its butt beaten. All those hours I listened to my friends talk about “back in vanilla…” and other such nostalgias… and I think, 5 years from now, when Teq is so routine that the only people who kill him are newbies testing out their shiny pointy sticks, I’ll be able to sit there and reminisce on how I was there.
(It didn’t hurt to be able to boast a little in guild chat either, since I was the only one who happened to be there… muhahahahahaha!)
Will I keep going back, I don’t know. If Teq gets to the point where its truly a 15 (20, if you count the mega laser events which pause the main clock) minute event, instead of an all day hanging-out-in-sparkfly to get onto a main server event, I’d probably show up as often as I show up for Jormag. Because every now and then, stomping a dragon is just fun. But, it won’t be for the “rewards” (yellows are easy, greens and blues are even easier, and I already made my wupwup shield anyway) — not much that I do in GW2 is for the loot table.
Whats sad is I see it going much the way Scarlett did this week (no one shows up now that there’s no farming to be done — psst, I farmed my share of aethers, i’m not trashing the farmers) once we all get over the thrill of “Hey, I was there!”.
Sorry but if you see the rewards it gives and the difficulty of the boss and the wait time…..its not worth my time even going there.
They better put time and money into some proper dungeons rather than crappy events like these….
10 man or 5 man options maybe for dungeons…..or some new dungeons.
