[Survey] How do you feel about Tequatl?
Answering “no” to the first question nulls 2 and 3.
“How likely are you to repeat kill him?”
None of those choices matched what I would say which is, I wouldn’t do it again because it is content I have completed. I did it, its done, and now its on to the next thing.

Well the content is the Meta\title, I would assume after you’ve gotten it, there’s no other reason to go back, right?

For fun is one reason why I would go back. I really enjoyed the excitement of my first win. But then…. I don’t know how I will feel the second time around.
Those charts pretty accurately summarize the backlash from this event. There’s no way ANet didn’t predict turret trolls and AFKers ruining this for everyone, so I have to assume that these are all concerns that were brought up by the developers during the production of Teakettle 2.0 which had to be pushed aside for the sake of time constraints.
Since the Sunbringer title and all the various goodies associated with a kill aren’t going anywhere any time soon, I’ll wait til ANet gets around to addressing the glaring flaws with this event. Maybe by that time, I’ll actually get to see my home server again, instead of living in an overflow for 8+ hours, only to receive an invitation to a different overflow.

I’m in two minds about Tequatl.
I love the content. Dragon looks great, most do. Even is SUPER FUN when you have people organized and playing together on friendly terms and with the common goal of taking the beast down. Love it, Anet. Love it.
BUT, and it’s one motherkittener of a BUT, AFK players are taking up space that MUST be filled by active players to complete the event, turrets are depended upon far too heavily – leaving a great, glittering opportunity for greifing – and the attitude of players becoming frustrated when a 100 man zerg isn’t a hivemind ruins the fun. I made 6 attempts the other day, tried hard each time. Was on TS, offering instructions and advice in map chat. Had an internet slump in the household, got frozen while dead. Battle going on around me, map chat working, but I can’t WP or type messages that appear. I was immediately set upon by four people in area chat, with no means to defend myself. I had to turn off my computer to get out of the way. I did not log back in – kitten dealing with those kind of attitudes. This isn’t WoW.
I’d prefer to have been kicked after a minute. Much more helpful and will hopefully prevent the rageface.
Feel some of the questions were leading….
But that’s the case with most surveys, it’s really hard to construct well-stated options that all have equal plausibility behind them
I’m shocked to see how many players haven’t killed him yet… I personally loved this content, but I can understand some of the hate (afks have been a problem on our server, of course, but I haven’t personally witnessed any turret trolls.. luckily).
Dragonbrand
I’m sure the people that love this update are the ones that instantly get into their servers and defeat Tequatl during primetime.
I would be very suprised if people loved this update if they tried to get into their own realm after spending dozens of hours on overflows or played at weird hours.
I find it pathetic that ANET doesnt do surveys like these in the game.

I find the survey pretty spot on and something that should be looked at by Anet developers.
Content like this is appreciated by such few people because the glaring flaws: it extremely hard for the general level of organization in a open environment, too hard for smaller servers which cant hope to manage even if they organize, plagued by random people who either underperform and/or go AFK and harsh on any person who is denied a proper chance because they arent lucky/able to get into the correct server/overflow.
At the rate that this goes the “permanent content” will go unused and avoided in a worse manner than Karka Queen was once the hype is over (a.k.a once most decent players get the achievement and see that get terrible rewards for the level of dificulty)
You might add ‘not until condition damage is fixed’ to the list… :P

The problem I have with this fight is not the event itself, I love the challenge. I have a problem with the guesting and overflow system. I have been unable to do the fight on anything besides an overflow with total lack of organization and nothing more than arguing in map chat during the event. Leading to a fail on the event.
Overflow and guesting needs to be reworked. The fact that guesting players whom are sitting in sparkfly afk for hours on end has top priority over a native server resident is ridiculous.
I understand the guesting service and it’s a great service, but it’s being abused now. The way this event is set up has really shown how much this needs to be looked into again.

Your poll is extremely flawed. It assume the player have kill Tequatl, which many haven’t done so at all. I never did kill Tequatl after going through overflow for the past week.
Well I have not been able to kill it in overflow at all and once I get to main map, the organized groups took off to an overflow to avoid afkers that were in the zone. Could not get there either. Go figure.
Great idea! Anet should do such a survey after every patch. At least previous patch could use some survey too.

It is a steaming heap of cow processed vegetation.
Overflow is killing my love for the game…I would love to join others on my server but always get kicked to overflow. Then I get to hear later how my server won against the event but overflow always loses…yeah really fun ANET – cannot wait for another MMO that realizes that if 100 people are needed to kill the dragon then maybe the 101st person shouldn’t be punished for trying to join in and then kicked to the overflow.
I have not killed him yet. Tried for 2 days to get on my server then I had enough. Maybe I will try again in a week or so(hmm Zelda and Pokemon inc so probably no…). If the servers can not handle it properly make it instanced as a raid.

I do not intend to get the title/achievements etc. I just wanted to beat the dragon and I did. I’m not going back for some stupid wings.

Wings are completely unrelated to killing teq

They did for the Beta

What i don’t like about teq is his rewards scale. The hardest is to get him to the first 75% in my experience strait from dps. the fallowing 25% are relatively easy with the mega laser assistance.
did the survey and pretty much what I have to say is… those fraking AFKers and low level leerchers!!!!!! Seriously wtf! and why does the entire match relied on 6 turrets, which by the way I’ve seen players AFK on or just troll to not let the people who know how to use them!
If those two things are fixed, then the current difficulty of the dragon is doable. But until those are re-fix/re-visited, you need a whole active zerg to take the dragon down… I’ve tried on different servers ever since the update (roughly about 10 showings, I do have a life and can’t spend the entire day in one map) and the lowest I’ve seen the bloody thing was 75% to get 1 measly dragon chest with junk.
So.. that’s my 2 copper’s worth of a say in it.

Putting raiding content in casual environment always bring up headache. Probably there gonna need to be tutorial mechanic before the fight.
Especially turret guys need a certificate to operate it.
Small server. We rallied and planned on a big organized kill, only I ended up in over-flow. People all fighting with each other rather than organizing. Bunch of guest players took my place on my own server (PLEASE make guesting secondary in events, allowing server players first access), because they were trying to show our sad little server how it all works, which means I never had a chance to fight with my friends. I loved dragon fights. Now I hate them. Never again. I’m done. Feeling depressed. Not sure I’ll login for a few days. We’ll see…
Server residents do have priority over guests before the event begins, as far as I’ve been told. I’d be okay with active guests being kicked from the main instance, but not after the event starts (and bear in mind that this system will prevent commanders and other players with multiple victories under their belts coming in to instruct on the main instance).
1 minute AFK timer once the event begins still sounds great to me, and I’d be happy for main server residence to take priority when positions are opened after AFK players are booted out.

Err… they don’t have any priority, unless you’re talking “two players warping simultaneously.” Guests aren’t kicked just because someone on the server wants in.
They need to really fix the loot, IMHO.
Getting 3 greens for killing Tequatl is very, very, very disheartening.
Not gonna respond to the survey because it is inherently flawed.
Otherwise, I’ll post my thoughts. I had only two emotions when fighting Tequila. Extremely gratified and very, very, annoyed.
First comes from a Teq kill. Working together with so many others on chat, the feeling you are part of a team going towards a grand purpose, screaming into your microphone… this is why I play MMOs.
The second comes from the stupid circumstances surrounding the event. Overflows, afkers, trolls, people who refuse to work with the group, GREENS FROM CHEST, all serve to deaden this otherwise really interesting event.
All in all, I approve of the event itself, but hate the bad environment.
There’s a huge problem that isn’t on your list there: the server struggles to handle the level of dps stacking that’s needed to win. I’ve actually been in a successful run of Teq but I haven’t killed him because in the final burn phase I got massive skill lag followed by a dc about 15 seconds before he died.
I also tagged everything except the waves as being a problem with the event. Almost every facet of it is just a way for the failure of a small number of people to deny everyone a chance at victory.
Please Anet, don’t nerf or change it. Teq’s major contribution to encounter design in the MMO is in its value as a case study of a failed encounter. Please leave it as it is.

It needs to be repaired and improved. Becouse now it has horrible design.
What this survey tells me is its good….great direction for the game but afk’ers pose the biggest threat. That stems from open world design of the encounter. Now with that in mind heres my suggestion. Give Commanders an ability with a cooldown, grants an aoe targeting circle that places a ready check banner, it brings up a popup that asks if you are ready yes or no. If after a set amount of time ( 10 seconds? 1 minute? 15 minutes? ) if you have NOT responded either yes or no, you are flagged afk.
Thoughts?

That’s precisely what I meant. Thus why it was immediately followed by "I’d be okay with active guests being kicked before the event starts.’
:)
I’m a good player but cant even TRY to defeat it, because i dont have 24h a day to sit in front of my screen waiting to enter the server map, not a kittenty overflow.
The poll is bad imo, if you answer “no” to the 1st question, you’re screwd.
I try this event today for the 10th time or so. Offcourse a fail. Got it past 75% with afterward no reward or whatever.
I must admit that A-Net overdone them selfs this time.
It’s nice to have hard content in the game as a lot of players asked/begged for it.
But the difficulty scale is not of the dragon itself. Its Pugs all over the place, afkers, Achievement wh….s, Skills of the turret users etc. To many factors of loosing this fight with a time amount for no marge of error.
I realy doubt these posts are even reading by them, because it is more importend to give a comment on the lore and that stuff, than admit that they made a miscalculation of winning for this event.
I realy tried to help and try to defeat it, but in this case of scenario it is utterly impossible. Because hey 10 dedicated good players of 100+ with the good intentions will also fail. (given example)
p.s If there is a large group (guild) that realy want to nail him down i would happy to oblige and help out. (EU server)
It feels as if people think you should just be able to pug it…thats a misconception, you need organisation. As such find out when your servers prime time is and attempt to get in then…people ideally would know when their big name pve guilds intend to fight him, and I believe they changed it whereby home server players have priority over guesters now.
Me and my crew down teq 2-3 times a day last few days and we organise to meet up on an overflow, I promise if you look you will find, if you don’t or give up then thats fine I truly believe that this type of content shouldnt be for everyone similar to wvw or spvp…you shouldnt feel you deserve to down tequatl because your a player theres nothing wrong with a serious threat of failure just as there is nothing wrong if less than 100% of people completing certain content.
Really bad survey. I didn’t defeat Tequatl, so how am I supposed to answer #2 and #3?
Also, there should be something between “No” and “As much as I can!” on question #3. What if I feel like killing tequatl every now and then or only occasionally with my guild? Give it more yes options; maybe I feel like doing it more since I have a chance of getting the mini or the ascended weapons. The “no” alternatives currently explain why the user feels that way, but not the one yes option. Alternatively, make it a yes/no question and then ask us why we answered as we did.
Question #4 might need an “other” option where the user can specify. I, for instance, think one of the major flaws is something completely else than what is found in the encounter itself: the current overflow and guesting systems.
For the reasons above, I, like many others, am unable to answer the survey, and therefore the data collected from the poll is not something to be taken seriously by anyone.

I have to be honest. After I completed all the achievements as far as Boss Week, and got the Wings . . . I haven’t gone back. With guesting making it impossible to join my server, and I’m not waiting 9+ hours to get into the main area, my desire to try and kill Teq disappeared.
Yeah, that’s probably a problem.
So, maybe, the updated changes need to be addressed. Personally, I don’t think it’s impossible to do . . . obviously. But the guesting and AFKer aren’t helping the problem either.
A little tweaking may be in order. Again, personally, if they removed the timers, it would fix the issue. It may take overflow over an hour to achieve victory, but an epic battle doesn’t necessarily mean 15 minutes either.
Longer can be better.
“Overflows?”
Impossible to answer. Our guild prefers overflows over main servers, so overflows are a good thing.

Agreed, we deliberately seek out overflows by guest to a high pop server to get thrown in one. Then we taxi everyone in.
