The new boss, designed to be significantly harder and replace the previously waaaay-too-easy boss, should be killable in 3.5 minutes? Are you absolutely sure you want to stick with that story?

IMHO the dragon should be killable with 3:30 seconds available on the timer. and this is not the case.
He was killed with a bit over 2:00 to spare on BG during their first kill. This was with massive amounts of death in Phase 1, and also a Bone Wall going up.

Not killable IN 3:50, Killable with 3:50 LEFT ON THE TIMER

I know, but do you know how organized that attempt was? They had nearly everyone on TS, people that care enough to actually listen. Things that I have not been seeing with the general populous in the overflows, or even on my home server.

Everyone being on teamspeak is quite regular when you are part of a large guild. It’s not that difficult to organize a group.
I think many people are forgetting that both BG and Desolution had almost everyone in Team Speak. These are servers that frequently have high co-ordination due to the fact they do a lot of WvW and is always in the top scoring teams. Very few servers have that kind of community base were it’s common for everyone to be in teamspeak and organising under ‘high commanders’.

The fight does not require much to survive: Don’t stand in red circles and dodge the Shockwave. Players also don’t need Commanders telling them when to leave the Battery Events; just look at their health and judge accordingly. VOIP is only there for guidance, but eventually a meta will evolve once players are more knowledgeable.
It’s only been 24 hours, folks. Many players, along with myself, were dorking around behind Tequatl trying to get the Tail accomplishment.
Things will coalesce with time. Expecting elite-level teamwork from public players after just a couple attempts is unrealistic and naive. Try to be real about this and keep it all in perspective.

99.9% of the content in Guild Wars 2 is Easy Mode
For over a year now those of us that like a challenge have not found it in Guild Wars 2. Since this patch .1% of the content in Guild Wars 2 actually is designed for us that like a challenge.
If you don’t want challenge you have 2 options. 1: Play the rest of the content in Guild Wars 2, or 2: Play FreeRealms. That might be more your speed.
It’s about time that we have a HARD dragon to kill. The fact he died in the first day actually means he’s not only killable but he might be too easy. I spent 2 years trying to kill the Glimmerking in DAOC before we finally killed him. A hard fight is a remembered fight.

I don’t know yet how critical it is for the 6 turrets to be involved in beating Tequatl, but assuming they are, that seems to place a lot more responsibility on 6 players to actually use all the right skills which in my opinion gives those players way too much control over victory or failure. As mentioned, afker’s on turrets could really hamper the efforts of 80-90 other players. I also understand and agree with why there is a time limit, however I think that limit should be increased to give the less dedicated and organized worlds a chance to still beat the bosses. Then Anet could make the chances for rarer drops and end event rewards higher for those that defeat the bosses faster, while still allowing the ‘general’ population the opportunity to still win. From my first and only 2 experiences in this battle, I can honestly say that it’s much more fun than before, but that I was also disappointed that even with as many players we had actively fighting, we couldn’t get Teq. even below 90%. Both times were overflow, which I have to say, good luck in getting into your main server. I’d also suggest that the nearest waypoint be uncontested during the battle. I know that is a bit contradictory, but so many dead players for whatever reason thought it would be faster for others to res them rather than porting to a much further waypoint and running back.

I misread it the same as you. Assumed “killable with 3:30 seconds available on the timer” meant able to be killed with just 3.5 minutes available to kill him. instead of 3.5 minutes remaining on 15 minutes.
Sea of Sorrows
From observation the turret users are essential. Not only do they have to keep removing the scales, they need to be cleansing and buffing the DPS groups in order to keep the rate of damage greater than the amount of time remaining.
This is what the Zhaitan fight should have been, difficult, lots of coordination and strategy. Now one of the fights I think they ‘revamped’ successfully was the Mark II golem in Mount Maelstorm. All the world bosses should be like the new Mark II.

If 99.9% of the content in the game is too easy for you, might I instead suggest that YOU’RE the one playing the wrong game? I hear there are a bunch of ‘bash your head against the wall in frustration’ type games out there these days…

Let me make this simple:
If you find 99% of the content too easy perhaps a harder game is more for you than having the Devs create content that less than 5% of the players can actually beat.
Instead is being a condescending priq ill just suggest that if you wanted harder content you could run around naked or something. Instant challenge.

I have to agree with Rizzo. I like challenges and epic battles, but if a boss takes 2 years to beat that’s ridiculous. I never played DAOC so I looked up a youtube video on the glimmerking battle, and from what I could tell you have a much smaller group of players battling him, which at least lends itself to having better chances to actually coordinate efforts among such a small group. But GW2 has way more players and getting them all to do what they need to do is nearly impossible. And since you’re in the open world rather than a dungeon, you can’t even pick which players you want with you in this battle so even if you wanted to go with your large guild, you have to be lucky enough to all get into the same map in the hopes that the other players already on the map aren’t off picking their noses, or sitting on turrets shooting fireflies. The easiest solution I see is increasing the time limit to allow more of the player base time to kill him while increasing the chances for better rewards for faster victories to those worlds with better coordination. That way it would still be challenging to the .1% to beat him in under ‘x’ minutes for that increase chance at getting high rewards, while still appealing to the 99.9% of players who still want challenging epic battles with a reasonable chance for victory even with the random players they end up fighting alongside. One event I actually saw a commander go off into a corner and use the /sleep emote and was there for at least a minute. >.< It’s not like in a group where you can vote to kick players out that aren’t performing.
Im okay with challenging content. No problem, bring it on.
But this isnt challenging its frustrating. You are basicly throwing up the outcome of the fight in the air. Hoping that the few people on Turrets know what to do, if just 3-4 dont they will screw over everyone else. Ow boy thats just the first phase. And everyone can just join in, its not a controlled instanced environment. How is that “challenging”?
And lets talk about the technical limitations of this game? A massive clusterkitten of people all in a small area. Gee, i wonder what effect that will have on the gameplay. If only we had a way to anticipate this… Oh wait, we do!
Just ask anyone that ever seriously played WvW what thats like. Skill delay, lag, and missing effects from the AoE’s you should be doding. And goodluck spotting a red ring amongst that mess in sodding water.
The difficulty from this fight doesnt come from learning the routine, thats easy. just takes a little time and you’re done.
It comes from utterly unreliable “allies” and big performance issues.
The reward isnt anything good either. So once people did this fight once or twice, or just quit out of sheer frustration, they will have no real reason to ever come back again. The rush from the initial kill will never be experienced again, and that much work, effort and frustration for so little reward. Dont think so. Tequatl will end up as an ignore boss before long.

Instead of you trying to do content you can’t win, why not stick to killing Bandits in Queensdale?

This pretty much sums up my entire feelings on the Teq2.0 encounter.
