Tequatl doesn't need VoIP
It doesn’t require coordination or VoIP if people know how they are supposed to do.
This doesn’t mean VoIP and coordination doesn’t make it a lot easier.
I kinda agree with what you’re saying. I think that a good commander and people that are willing to listen to what is being said in map chat are enough to beat it.
You assume that people need to know what to do. until then , VOIP is much easier and much faster way to coordinate groups of people who just showed up and haven’t bothered to get any info on the event and who don’t read map chat. And there’s plenty of those people.
I’m not saying that everyone will use teamspeak or whatnot, but the more ppl actually do it, the better results will come out. Same for WvW, same for dunegons, VOIP is an advantage. Typing takes time and can get you killed. Simple as that.

In other words, yet another event where it is better to stack and DPS than spread out.
I think the VOIP is just helping people do it on day one. I expect people will be completing it without VOIP within a month. Once people have learned the mechanics and the pattern, it’s going to doable without the VOIP. The VOIP advantage is basically just because people don’t yet know what they are supposed to do and having someone tell them it is sidestepping that problem.
VoIP makes coordination easier, but it’s not required.

I’m not saying that VoIP doesn’t make it easier, it really does. I’m saying that I don’t think it’s required. A lot of people on the forums are saying that Tequatl is too hard because you will always need a VoIP with 120 people to coordinate enough to beat him. I wrote this post to try to argue that eventually, once enough people understand what to do, we won’t need VoIP to succeed. I believe that in a week or so, we will see the amount of groups beating the event go up drastically.

I agree. I never said that VoIP isn’t an advantage (it’s a huge one and was probably the reason they succeeded) but I said that when enough people understand what to do (which will take time) we won’t need it. I think it’s the main reason why so many runs of Tequatl are failing, and why he seems so hard right now.
Probably won’t be needed in a month time, when many more people have been through the drill. But to get there, to get experience, i think servers will find VOIP very helpful, if not necessary.
