The "Please, DON'T nerf" topic.
Ci Assediamo Da Soli [SIGH] ~ Officier
agreed but please add a chain of events that triggers a summon rather than random times. <3
I support this. Tired of the same old cycle:
1) People complain that the game is too easy
2) Anet promises harder content – Aetherblade Retreat, Candidate Trials, Liadri, SAB, world bosses
3) Players don’t believe Anet “Bring it on, it is still going to be easy, GW2 PVE is so easy”
4) Players don’t finish the content on 1st try and cry for nerf.
5) Anet nerfs content.
6) Back to 1) and repeat cycle.
Tequatl’s difficulty is great where it is. HOWEVER, after speaking with multiple people who completed it on BG, I think the rewards need to be better for completing it. And by that, I mean that it should be a MUCH better chance of getting something good.
Oolune :: Engineer — Arrow Of Oolune :: Human Ranger -- Shadow Of Oolune :: Human Thief

Liadri, Trials and SAB relied on solo peformance. I did it quite fast. Liadri took some wipes but I made it eventually. AB was a 5 man content, it took me few days to find 4 other decent people but once I did, it was like a fractal run. New Tequatl? The problem is not about the boss, the problem is about the 100+ zerg which faces him. There is nothing I can do to make this zerg work. Best thing I can do is rage on map chat and that will fail as well. I wish I could play on Blackgate. But I cant. Only hope for me is that some decent EU server will emerge which can beat him at least once per day or two and then spam-guest it. Good design? I am not so sure.
For the first time, this event has brought together a lot of guilds on my server (darkhaven) to defeat this beast. We are all talking together and it is building a better community.

I believe that people will start to listen to commanders orders after the 10th failed try at killing Tequatl.
Just be a little more patient.

Commanders don’t mean anything. I just did the event on FSP again, and there were at least six doritos running around, none of which I recognized to have any authority.
Nameless Inversion/Ascension/Evasion/Ruination/Impression/Perdition/Compassion/Tactician
Guild Wars 2 will be an amazing game when it’s finished. Compare Prophecies to EotN!
Honestly it wasn’t having commanders that did it for Blackgate; it was the fact that we brought a huge level of coordination to the fight. If ArenaNet actually intends people to play their content, which I can only assume they do, the event needs a bit of fine tuning. The fact of the matter is that the reward is not equal the effort required to down him. It’s only marginally better than your typical boss, unless you’re obscenely lucky.
You can say you like the challenge all you want, but there will be a point—likely before the event ends—if the difficulty isn’t addressed. 130+ people coordinating on TS, and then another 50+ doing their own thing on the boss isn’t something you’re going to have every run. When you don’t? He doesn’t die.
But you’re right, he doesn’t need a nerf. He needs some tweaking to make the encounter more accessible—just another five minutes on the timer would make it an extremely difficult, yet still easily completed encounter if everyone does their job.
It is great that we have some harder content in the game now. At the present moment it’s tricky to defeat since good players are getting segmented between the main server and overflows, but once the majority of players start telling themselves the fight is impossible and stop clogging it up, that’ll leave the dedicated players who want a challenge to take it on for themselves. =)
Dear Arenanet,
you finally gave us an actual challenging world boss that can’t be killed with brainless autoattack in 2 mins.
That’s exactly what a good part of the community was asking for and you just did it pretty good, please don’t listen to the people asking for a nerf when they didn’t even try to stop that kitten autoattack, plug the brain and think about alternative ways to face him.Thank you and keep up the hard work!
P.S.
FYI, I’m from FSP and we could damage Tequatl just for a 20~25% of his health.
The timer needs to be tweaked.
1. Get rid of it.
2. When Teq reaches 25% the time resets.
3. Set it for the remaining time until the event starts again. So for example if Tequatl starts and there’s 47 minutes left until he spawns again set the timer to 47 minutes.

And then you will be left with not enough people to actually be able to kill him.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I did the event just a bit ago on Sanctum of Rall in a vent call with 50 other players and two Anet devs. We didn’t defeat him but we got him pretty far down, and it was honestly one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had in this game. It really brings the community together, every one was friendly and organized, and aided me in bringing the right skills and traits to benefit everybody. Getting to chat with devs and play with them was also fantastic.
Please don’t change the event. It’s really bringing people together and teaches excellent teamwork skills in pve, which we sorely need.
I find the calls for nerfs from the community very disheartening. A huge amount of content seemed quite difficult when we first played it whether it was the Aetherblade Retreat, SAB or the Queen’s Gauntlet encounters. However, in every single case players persevered and eventually succeeded and I am hoping it will be the same for this encounter too. Anet, please do not dumb down the content for the love of Dwayna!

Commanders don’t mean anything.
+1
Most of the people with Commander tags on are annoying useless attention kittens who just want to be on people’s minimaps all the time. They don’t turn them off even when they’re directly told that it’s interfering with an Event’s success. And Getting 100g is not a major accomplishment either. I’ve made 300g this summer alone and I don’t even farm in this game (I farmed some in gw1 but not here). No one puts stock in 99% of the commanders in this game except when they want to find a Champ-Train.
+1 Do not nerf
+1 Improve loot
Commanders don’t mean anything? You’re wrong. Commander tags mean nothing.
I bought the commander tag for wvw and for helping people in the new pve content as events gotten pretty difficult requiring a certain amount of people gathered.
Most fun I have had on this game in awhile, no need to nerf this content. People just need to learn the fight and organize.
No need to nerf this fight. People have already beat it.
As someone mentioned in another thread, the 15 min timer doesn’t make sense within the context of the game. A better mechanic would be for the event to fail if a certain number of cannons are destroyed, he hits 20 scale stacks too many times or a laser battery is taken out.
This would still give the required difficulty and need to co-operate without the need for a shoe horned in artificial time limit.

Looking at the number of players and the amount of coordination that were required for Blackgate to beat Tequatl once… do you think that is a reasonable requirement for all servers? I don’t think so. In the long run, you are not going to bring that many players together every single time (if at all), and you’ll have many large groups of players wasting their time for 15 minutes. Something needs to be changed about this encounter. Failing due to a timer running out is lame. I would suggest either removing the timer entirely, or making it reset with each new phase. If the server is making progress, then he shouldn’t fly off. Having a server fail the event when Tequatl is at 10% health is just dumb and unfair.

Man, do you realise that the update went up less than 24h ago?
It’s the most difficult encounter Arenanet ever put in the game so it was predictable that people couldn’t succed without organisation and knowing the new mechanics, can’t you (and all people asking for nerf) just try to beat it as it is now without crying if you failed the event at the first try?
Ci Assediamo Da Soli [SIGH] ~ Officier
Agreed. Do not nerf. Killing new Teq is supposed to be an achievement, a test of skill and cooperation. If people run around like headless chickens and try to zerg it and then cry for nerf, it’s not Anet that’s doing something wrong.
Oh the woe, oh the horror, the game actually requires you to play now, not just mindlessly zerg-farm with spamming 1 and standing on a safe spot. (New Jormag fight can be hilarious at that regards)
I agree on better rewards part though. Tough content needs motivation.

It’s not the most difficult encounter, it just requires an insane amount of DPS and players to beat the time limit. Besides, the mechanics are pretty simple.

Yes, Rob van der Sloot, I am alright with the current state of affairs. It’s been a mere 24 hours since the patch went live and already people like yourself are calling for nerfs to make it easier. How about waiting a little while for a change? Remember all the people that cried for nerfs to AR or Liadri? How many of them were steamrolling that very same content a few days later? Yeah…
The dragon himself? He’s fine, he doesn’t need a nerf.
His timer? Yes, give us double the time (meaning 30 minutes) to pull this off in. Actually, considering he’s harder than Jormag currently, 40-45 minutes total may be a better timer.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil

You do not argue with the Mad Queen.
All kidding aside the guys from Blackgate who are looking at this from their servers point of view, need to at least hear the constructive complaints from lower servers. I definitely agree that Guild Wars 2 meta/boss fights needed this in general, as spamming 1 and standing there is about as lame as playing with rubber bands.
From what I’ve seen from the BG completion, I do worry my home server will never muster the same enthusiasm or numbers.
Another point I want to make is after a month or so, will people still find it relevant to fight Teq? I don’t mean one server either, I mean on average. If an average amount of servers are running Teq and other major bosses (Karka) and winning, than It’s fine the way it is. But if it doesn’t get attention after a couple weeks I would say it’s not a good implementation.
I’m saying this without even considering my server, because in AR we don’t complete any temples either. The only one being Melandru.
Time will tell though.
So we got some hardcore elitist in here. Least you can do is give us advice if you want to keep him overpowered. So why do ‘pug’ tequatl attemps only get him to 90% health when we still do FULL FORCE player dps on him. Explain that to me and MAYBE i will forget my attempts to counterpost op. If the elitist in this thread can’t give advice (hey if you want it to stay hard you must be good, good enough to give advice), then it proofs you are trolls.

at Phoebe, regardless of what any one player posts, it requires teamwork and many, many players have to work together to complete this.
It doesn’t matter if someone thinks themself as a GW2 Elitist, he/she still needs others
Since it’s content that is actually impossible to accomplish on my server, I’m in the “Nerf it” camp. It should be something that a squad or two can do – not the current "jump through hoops, then do the watusi, while singing “sweet caroline” and juggling flaming chainsaws" that it is right now.

You can only control your own player skill, your impact on others player skills is incredible minor. And that’s where a lot of these people are wrong. The succeeders are INCREDIBLE LUCKY (nothing more just plain simple luck), that the other people they fight with are capable of fighting tequatl as they should fight him. Alone they can’t make a difference. And that’s where casual/pug/overflow servers have incredible shortcomings. They just never/rarely succeed.

This new challenge will improve the comunication and the cooperation between guilds of the same server, i think this is the only way to succed.
Too bad the players are probably already used to receive free stuff and they lost the motivation. I give this event about 2 weeks before no one tries it anymore in its current state.
If nobody tells me how the kitten to dps him 10x faster then now, then yes i will abandon him. Still no replies from the elitists in this thread. And just for the sake of mods reading this they are elitists because they want hardcore content, it doesn’t mean anything else.

The new Tequatl is a huge and epic battle that can’t be won with 20-30 people, you should deal with it.

I think this is a fair point. The Karka Queen in its current state has a similar issue, where there just aint enough players interested in gathering to meet the minimum requirement. And it has left the Karka Queen battle pretty much abandoned.

Guesting lol. Desolation is supposed to be a good pve server, and they still haven’t killed him as far as I know, i haven’t even heard of teamspeak gatherings to try attempts him. So the ‘supposedly’ leading EU pve server fails at it, where to do then? Guest to blackgate? Oh wait I can’t, and it would be to laggy (most full server on the planet).

It may improve communication between big guilds, but will create a rift between them and most of the server population (because, from the guilds’ point of view, having average players join in the event would be tantamount to failure. And of course they will be right, as this is a content that is geared for extreme minority. And placed in a middle-level open world zone where everyone can join.

Try to contact the guilds of your server and talk about a tactic, builds, and a fair organizzation with most of people in ts. This is what we’re doing here.
You can’t think to engage this fight jsut the wway you did till yesterday.

If telling people “suck it up and learn to play the game to actually work for your rewards for once” is elitist, then I’m an elitist and I’m kitten proud of it. However, by telling people to man up, I do not imply I have the recipe to beat the dragon (that’s simple Aristoteles logic. A equals/means/implies B, not half the alphabet). Yes, I do not have any more luck than you killing him, but the difference between us is – I’m willing to TRY.
People were nagging that every boss can be beaten by a bunch of zerging noobs poking him with sticks. Now they’re crying that they want to be able to poke the boss with sticks. Heaven forbid you actually need to use your skills, dodge and THINK.
If the promised “bigger, badder, meaner, leaner” Tequatl were just the same event but timed and with mode HP, we’d all be here, crying it’s “boooooooriiiiing”. And we’d be right. Anet actually followed their promise of a tough fight. Boo hoo, I guess?
I still say they should have found some happy medium between “makes dark souls look easy” and the old one.
+1 and improve loot please

To be fair, it’s not the toughness of the fight that servers are struggling with, but the insanely tight timer, along with the gazillion hit points that Tequatl now has.

I’m also willing to try, but i’m hitting a barrier of ‘ok, I dodge every single of his wave, i survived his poison traps, i ressed over 15 people on my own, i protected the turrents, i dps’ed the dragon for a while, ‘oh crap timer is out 90% left’, ok we did someting seriously wrong. But I do not know that answer.
You are like my friend, if a new game comes out he figure all the hard content out in litterally 5 secs. He doesn’t have to try even. He can somehow always predict what the developpers thought, and see true what was supposed to be very hard content, with easyness. But i don’t call him a good player. He’s just lucky to have this gift. Now you are telling people without this gift to suck it up and don’t ask advice? Kk, leaves tequatl
Might as well not play fractals right, cause without advice, i wouldnt have understood the ‘catch boss energy attack, and trow it back at him’ mechanic. Players advised me, I listened, and I became a better player in fracs because of it, now i’m helping others who don’t understand it yet.
Same problem exists with Arah. I would love to complete all paths of this dungeon. But it is hard. I’m all prepared for anything, but it always comes to this: The person who already did dungeon is to lazy to explain, and when stuff fails, he just ragequits party. Am i the one at fault for not succeeding the dungeon i don’t yet know of then, in your opinion?

Nobody is telling you not to ask for advice. You do alright on Teq, congrats to you. But it’s not a solo event. No matter how hard YOU personally try to get everything perfect, it rises or fails with other players being able to do the same. And the more people learn to do what you do, the better the result. Just do what most people with experience do and… well… crude as it sounds, yell at others to get their acts straight.
As long as people will run around like beheaded poultry, don’t listen to map chat/people telling them what to do to do it right, the event can’t be won. It’s a group effort.
As said before, I do support way better loot though, considering the effort you need to put into it.
The timer should determine the level of success until the 30 min mark and then you fail. Beat him under 15 mins you get a lot of shinies. Beat him under 20 and 25 and you get less and less loot until you inevitably fail at 30min. This would give a chance to those stuck on overflow and those on low pop servers to actually get past the first stage of the fight. Personally I would prefer the encounter to be harder and not have a timer but that’s just me.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
My question stands, all the turrents where used and most players did a similar ‘ok job in my opinion’ as me. Where did the 10x as fast dps boost come from that Blackgate had to succeed him compared to us? To make it clear YES i’m asking for advice, and i know a lot of you here know the answer.

I’m slightly worried this would cause people to quit after 15 minutes, if they see they’re not going to get their ascended loot/big shinies bag anyway, thus often by proxy failing the event for others way ahead of its actual ending.
Things I would do to “nerf” tequatl:
-Double the timer.
-Make the AoE circles actually visible, instead of the colourblind friendly, can’t-see-them-in-the-water, invisible death areas they are now.
-Un-contest the WP nearest him. Losing 1 minute travelling because people have been conditioned not to res downed (not dead, DOWNED) players is bad.
-Fix the blue wave of insta-death so it’s animation matches it’s location. Also make it only hit for the 2000 it’s claimed to be, instead of insta-gibbing people.
I’d also love to see him NOT have defiant/unshakable, and instead of the stupid turrets (I hate, loath and despise the environmental weapons in this game) make it required that some people are using CC skills on him. Matter of fact, remove all the gimmicky crap, and make it so that a mix of healing, CC, condition damage and raw DPS are all required to win – that would be interesting. Right now it’s just stupid.
