Trahearne is not that bad a guy, why all the hate?

People do not like him mainly because they think he “stole their story”; that Trahearne is the main character of the Personal Story, not the player.

My only problem with him is the voice acting to be honest. He doesn’t sound inspiring, and as the leader of the Pact, he should be. I forgive him, though, because he loves the PC so much and he always make sure that we know how important we are for him. I used to hate him, but now I believe that there are characters that are worse than him (I am looking at you, Kiel). I am not a huge fan of Trahearne, but I don’t mind him that much anymore.

Ohhh! So it’s because people don’t understand that the Main character ISN’T them and never has been even since the original Guild Wars. The main characters of GW2 are Destiny’s Edge and to a lesser degree Trahearne. We’re just on for the ride.

Exactly. I really like the fact that the main characters depend on us, though. We are not just observing, we are supporting them, helping them. The DE and Trahearne see us as their friends, someone they trust and they know that they can count on. That makes me feel special enough, I don’t have to be the main character.

But I hate Kiel. She did nothing. Her little plan would be good for nothing if it wasn’t for Canach (he destroyed the copies of the contracts), Jory was the one to solve the murder case AND Kiel kept one of the Pact’s stolen ships instead of returning it. She is the only main character that I can not stand.

I totally agree. But that’s not the only problem with Trahearne’s voice. As the main character of the story, he’s utterly boring to listen to for hours. Search for Andrew Schlafly on youtube, he’s equally awkward to listen to.

Furthermore, it’d been nice if the orders swore allegiance to the players, with Trahearne as the chief advisor to the player. This would have made the story so much more enjoyable, without even changing much. As a scholar, that’s his rightful place and should make his voice less problematic.

I can’t agree with this. Trahearne is the leader of the Pact, so he is responsible for strategically planning the Pact’s movements, nothing more, and personal story does a great job of conveying this. Trahearne lays out the options, the PLAYER selects, in the few missions that Trahearne is present, he follows while the PLAYER leads. The PLAYER is the one who kills all the bosses, and if you pay attention to Trahearne’s commentary, he is not shy at admitting it. Trahearne along with all of Destiny’s Edge credits the PLAYER for their success, so how Trahearne is supposedly stealing the role of MC from us, is beyond me.

Trahearne is a supporting character, I don’t see how people cant understand this.

That’s not someone worthy of the title Marshall and supreme leader of the armed forces of the Pact. Such a person should be a mere advisor to the player. The marshal should make the choices or he’s not worthy of that title.

Julius Caesar, Alexandros the Great, Napoleon Bonaparte … these are well known leaders because of their own tactical insight plus they fought on the front lines, unlike that shoddy Trahearne on both counts. If he had the title Advisor, which is exactly what he does, people would have a different impression.

And yet Trahearne is the supreme leader and Marshall of the pact, who appoints you as his second-in-command. That’s not a joke, he does so explicitly when the pact is formed.

There are many adventure/action/fantasy/war stories where the main character is not the commanding officer, or in many cases, not an officer at all. This should come as no surprise. One of the greatest and most successful examples of a mid-evil fantasy where the main character is not a commander would be “Lord of the Rings”, but I never hear people hating on Aragorn for becoming the king, or Legolas for being a bad-kitten .

First of all, Trahearne does fight on the front lines, and secondly, modern warfare has deemed that stupidity. If the Marshal falls, the army falls, therefore a Marshal should not be in the thick of it… you’d think this would be common sense. Trahearne may not be a skilled fighter- but hey, that’s just about every npc in GW2; and for that matter, while it is true that Napoleon entered the field, nothing regards him as the greatest warrior of France either. So Marshal = greatest fighter; this is not the case.

Also, you’re thinking about this the wrong way, isn’t it the PLAYER who is the adviser, as we’re giving advice on Trahearne’s plans? Now I suppose you’ll want to say being the adviser makes us secondary characters, but I addressed this in the previous post, remember? You don’t think in the coarse of history, that there haven’t been advisers or generals who were more skilled, knowledgeable, or simply a better leader than the Marshal?

All of this aside, I find it funny, that the sum of your arguments point to why Trahearne shouldn’t be the Marshal, but in that same affect, they acknowledge how much more important the player is. So basically, you agree with me.

Making the player head of the pact would make too much sense.

Doesn’t really matter, as i’ve stated before, there are many stories where the hero or main character is not the leader.

Trey’s wyld hunt is over he cleansed orr, yet he’s still leader of the pact? What the hell do we do when Kralk decides to roll his sky-blotting kitten out and fight us.

Why shouldn’t he stay on after his wyld hunt is over, his life and that of the worlds is still in danger, right? Does that mean if your character is a sylvari, then you should likewise give up your position since you fulfilled your wyld hunt by slaying a dragon? Haha, Zhiatain is dead, all sylvaris please leave our army, you don’t need to help anymore… BS.

Also, his voice acting sucked. His dialog was pitiful

Opinion

and regardless of whether you like him or not it’s OUR personal story not leaf boy’s It was mis leading and pumped everyone up…

Once again, Trahearne and Destiny’s Edge always credit the PLAYER for their success and recognize the PLAYER as the true hero. The PLAYER is given all the options, and it is the PLAYER who does all the work, so personal story in NO WAY presents Trahearne as the main character.

Not to mention he comes strolling in RIGHT after our mentor’s die…. Way to take the character we grew attached too, yank him away and replace him with a literal stick in the mud.

Actually, if you play a sylvari, Trahearne comes in even before your mentor does. In comparison, you only play around ten missions with your mentor. Well, of course the mentors were more interesting (except for that annoying Priory hag) and I would have liked them to stay longer, but Trahearne in no way replaces them, appearing more as a partner than a mentor. Simply, the loss of mentors was important for character development, though, they didn’t really implement it as they should have; such as having to fight a risen Tybolt over a barrel of apples… regardless of this, their loss placed a hole as to who would be the heroes partner, and Trahearne filled this hole. But he did not, come out of nowhere.
