It occurred to me last night that this might help the servers which are struggling with this fight (like mine). Some professions will naturally be more efficient at one of the fight’s roles than others.
I’ve been leaving my mesmer parked at Splintered Coast, and running over there when the notification pops up. Unfortunately all too often she lands in an overflow, or gets there too late. The mesmer is pretty handy for buffing others, DPSing the tendrils, or throwing down Time Warp on the main zerg.
I also have an 80 thief and a necro who will be eighty very shortly. Haven’t really tried either of them in the Teq fight yet, but I may to see how helpful they can be. Those of you who have succeeded in downing him…any pointers?
Doesn’t matter. A good commander will find a place for everyone during the event.
I wouldn’t go with my thief if you have a different class available, unless you want to go defense. Same story with ranger. They are good on turrets and defense, but not really that great in the zerg.

I have no issues with my ranger in the zerg, in fact, I typically have better survivability with him than I do with my warrior. And so what if you play defense? Someone needs to. The first couple of times I took down Teq, I was on turret defense/finger killing. Someone has to do it, all jobs are important.
I agree with Ivonbeton about the thief not being good in the zerg(I have tried a couple times, you can use it but they are squishy and don’t have aoe heals/buffs).
He is wrong about the ranger, we have a easy time in the Zerg and have water fields and aoe condition removers and revives. Not sure where he got this ranger Info from
Rangers are so-so, pets are dead and useless………….
(I’m a Ranger by the way, and haven’t managed to kill Teq yet, can’t get out of poxy overflow).
Any class in full soldier (including thief) has good survivability in zerg. Thief can spam blast on everyone and refuge is a good aoe heal, especially when people get downed.
I preferred roaming though on Thief and going back and forth between zerg and killing fingers and sometimes wiping mobs off turrets if they were having trouble.
When I stayed in zerg full time I used; 0/0/30/20/20 for extra ini and defense. CD reduced Refuge and Gain stealth when reviving allys. I never got downed entire fight.

All professions are used and useful here, even though in different numbers ^^ Necros, which are best deffers, should be less than for example eles, because we need a really hell lot of ice bows for tequatl.
If you ask for ppl you don’t really need to 100% against Tequatl, then it would be
Necros (Best for defending but not 100% needed. Still appreciated)
Ranger (Really cool as Cleric stat in zerg with healing elite or as tower user (because of pet as decoy))
Engineer (Hard grenade aoe dmg, better than many others in that regard)
Thiefs (statted as soldier, they probably deal most dmg with shortbow, but possible without)
even though it would be better with them. For example Mesmer and Guardians can take most of their positions.
Mesmer, needed for Feedback,
Warriors, needed for Banners,
Ele, needed for Conjuration Weapon,
Guardians, needed for reflect walls
Basically, it is doable without some of those, but it is always helpful to have all of them.
Can also throw in that people also love Necros for their resurrection signet.
