Why Open World is Good

Anyone can join? My overflow disagrees. A problem which would have been avoided had they introduced instanced raids instead.
You realize GW2 has non-English speakers playing, right? People who can’t “hop in a voice chat, meet people and discuss”, because they don’t speak English? These people can’t coordinate with their whole server – they can only coordinate with smaller groups of people who also speak their language.
You realize some people have hearing disabilities? Impaired speech? Can only coordinate through text? Some people have social anxiety and would never be able to just hop into a stranger’s voice chat and start talking?
And that even if these people just hopped in and started fighting, they could end up getting in the way due to the inability to coordinate? What if one of them took control of a turret?
The “don’t like it/can’t do it don’t do it” mentality that would apply to an instance can’t even be applied here, because a person who is doing map completion and just happens to be there is actually taking up the spot of someone who wants to do it. By not doing it. So not only would they have to not do it, they’d also have to remove themselves from the map, which is open world, so as to not get in the way of everyone else.
Yeah, some amazing community building you got there.
That’s wonderful that you got a great experience out of it, but assuming your great experience applies (or could apply) to everyone else is naive at best.

It’s about your entire server. It’s about building up the community by teaching each other and planning out a strategy.
Is that how it works when people from TC and BG can’t actually get in because of guests?
Because that’s the situation now.

Sea of Sorrows, a server never before so appropriately named.
Great post, OP!
That’s definitely the feeling I got just watching the videos! So awesome! I can’t wait to be a part of a success one day! In the meantime, my skills will only continue to increase.

Yeah, I get the feeling that the people who are praising this are clueless in regards to the technical issues it brings. Sure, it would be cool in an ideal world but this isn’t an ideal world. When designing content you have to design it around the limitations of the game.

I don’t think they’re clueless. I imagine most if not all would fully acknowledge the issues and probably struggled a lot to be able to play with whoever they played with. Limitations and issues shouldn’t be a reason to ignore the awesomeness they’ve experienced in spite of said limitations though.

Fixed that for ya.

Yeah, because the players are totally to be blamed when their server boots them due to everybody else trying to get in.
Case in point.
Completely agree. It’s incredible to see an entire server come together to coordinate and strategize. It’s something you used to only see in wvw. I think it’s a great addition to the game and something that gw2 has been lacking for a while: pve content that’s challenging and fun.

Did you read his post? That it isnt instanced is the great part.
Now, overflows suck and hopefully the issue fixes itself (or Anet changes the caps) simply because this week this particular encounter gets too much attention because it is new. Invasions at first had multiple overflows, now it is only one overflow if any. Will be the same with Tequatl.
