When I saw the male preview, I prepared 800 gems to buy it for my female Norn guardian.
Very disappointed by the female version, it’s really subpar.
It doesn’t seem to belong to the same set, that’s weird.
Any chance to have a Phalanx II modelled, for the female version ?
Why didn’t they implemented it like the Primeval armor, which is basically the same design for male / female ? More costs for Anet on the phalanx one, and finally less cash for them :S
Why can’t we get some nice plate-covered armor for females… I had really high hopes for Phalanx one and the male is great… but female is just annoying… not spending gems on this…

Good god, yes. What’s wrong with just having sensible body armor that is pretty much the same between genders?
We don’t need breast window plate. Or even plate fitting the countours of breasts, which is nonsense of another league. Just… just have the armor be functional.
The male set should have a revealing alternative. And the female a full-plate alternative.
I would love that, I would love it if the Phalanx set was a heavy heavy armour set and they brought out a chainmail speedo/bikini next set. I think people are mostly disappointed at the huge difference between the sets, at least I am.
If the preview picture had shown the female version of the Phalanx then I wouldn’t have been half as bothered, I’d just have disregarded it completely and moved on with my day but as it was it got my hopes up but they look nothing alike.

This of course blithely ignores how utterly horrid most of those look or the fact that mix and matching them often creates unacceptable clipping issues, because for some reason the art asset designers aren’t being held to some standardization of where to place the seams at, and we have no real way of altering the texture shine levels to make different set pieces not look out of place.
So seeing how well done the male version was then seeing what was foisted onto us as the female version is just insulting.
By all means make what they had for the female version as a separate armor set; just give us something that actually resembles the current male version without having to reroll Charr or Asura (both of whom also tend to look like crap outside of very specific sets)
Edit: And actually, most of those armors look so bad I don’t even consider them an option for my male Norn Guardian either.

Judging by the massive floating shoulders in the medium set charr will look pretty crap in these ones too.
I mean you’d imagine that by now they’d have learned to reduce them, rotate them a little and fix the floating equipment for charr (like they did for the aetherblade armour) but they seem to constantly forget to make sure that they don’t look completely idiotic on charr. But that’s a separate issue.

I think some people are confused. We know that female characters already have fully armored sets. We want that awesome fully-armored Phalanx set! Specifically that one because it looks awesome!
Yea, no. I threw my money at the screen the moment I saw the female armor. I’m not a fan of full body armor or bikini armor. This was a good balance.

Really Anet? We’re going down this road now? I mean kitten i thought with all the Bad kitten heavy armor skins in GW1 (for female) that at least -some- of the really awesome armors in GW2 would be the same for females…

I can’t help but agree. Chain-mail bikinis are sexy the first time around, but I’m thinking they’re way overdone now. Give us something unique to look at, both as male and female!
Don’t get me wrong, they should have chain bikinis (i mean some people like playing that berserker character who is dressed in very small amounts of armor), but if they do that for an armor it should be for both male AND female, not Male being some knightly juggernaught armor where they’re clad head to toe in 12 inches of steel, and then the females are essentially dancers for jabba the hutt.
YES, THIS, THANK YOU. Why can’t I put my male sylvari in some skimpy armor that shows off his glow? There’s only one light piece that does this for a male (it has an open chest front, forget its name). Get us some male 1970s basketball short-shorts up in here because, as I’ve said in the past, I wouldn’t mind designs showing off the skin if it were an option for both sexes. The male and female phalanx shoulda been two separate designs. I don’t understand how the male armor wouldn’t translate easily to a female. I saw a picture of the male phalanx armor on tumblr and nearly lost my mind because it was so beautiful and then I saw the female version and was heartbroken. I guess I should be used to this by now.
ETA: I see people are saying they like the female phalanx. Which is fine! It is definitely nice looking and I love the detail. But looks totally different than the male. Again, I wish they would have been two sets with much similar aesthetics for male and female.

Same. People just overlook those in ACTUAL armor because it’s easier to do so. They want to just see the bikini stuff because it is what they like or what they are used to seeing.
Either way once again this is why I roll races like the Charr to avoid this kinda stuff. Course in WoW they did the skimpy stuff even on female Tauren… what a surprise that was for me years ago.
I don’t mind when the female version of an armor set is skimpy, as long as its translated the same on the male version and they really look like they’re supposed to be the same armor set. The barbarian set is a good example of it being skimpy, but it’s skimpy in both genders and stylistically supposed to be that way. This set just seems off because either the female or the male should be different. Though with a name like “Phalanx” you would think the female armor would be heavy like the male armor.
In short, I agree with many of the complaints here.

I loved the new female armors, I have a female human thief and she’s been wearing tier 3 cultural which, while I like it, is way too skimpy for my taste. This armor is the perfect balance. I keep seeing people say “chain mail bikini” in talking about the heavy phalanx female……but…………but……….but do you people even know what a bikini is? Besides showing off a little leg there is nothing bikini-ish about this armor.

I love both armors. The design is very detailed and fantastic looking. Seriously though, they should be two seperate types of armor. Make a male version of the Female Armor and a female version of the Male Armor. They don’t even look like the same armor. I was really looking foreward to the Male big boots and the winged looking helm. I’ve got a Valkyrie themed Guardian that would fit perfectly with the Male Boots/Helmet and the Female Top/Gloves. I’m also sure there is a lot of people out there than want there men to show some kitten skin.
Too bad this set, the helmet in particular, looks like total trash on the charr. Thank you for making the head enormous. /sarcasm. Seriously, I can give it a pass on town clothes like the mad king costume, but did anybody even CHECK how this would stretch out on a charr’s head? Ugh. No gems for you.

and to think i used to love this game and actually recomend it to people who were tired of the usual crap we get in mmos.

It reminds me of some of the conservative armors for females in TERA, I actually really like the heavy and medium armor, it’s really stylish and compliments my pixel curves.

They do so much work to differentiate male and female armor yet the can’t even get the ONE set of armor that asura/charr male/female characters wear to look good. I can’t understand these people. The logic is disturbing and kittened up.
Every time there’s a new armour set released on the gem shop people plead for parity between male/female sets, and every time we get ignored. I’m very disappointed that this keeps happening. Yes, there should be a mix of revealing and not-revealing armours in the game. No, that mix should not happen in the same armour set.
Please please please please please please keep the design between male/female versions of armour consistent. Please?

No, no, where is the male “sexy” version of the light starter armor? Where they have a tiny skirt and a garter on one leg. And where are the ball windows? The thongs? The stockings and man panty shots? The only thing that comes close is the Seraph armor you can get in Kessex Hills.

I don’t see anything wrong with the female heavy armor.
It’s a step back from the full cover-up sets (which happens to take up the majority of female heavy armors) and gives people some more variety.
Now if Anet decides to follow this theme, then we’d have a problem. So far they’ve been rather good at keeping it more realistic than the stereotypical nonsense you might see in other MMOs. So kudos to that.
Frankly, this upset behavior over something as minor as one set being so different, is indeed faceplam worthy.
