I was mainly wondering if the Obelisk Shard is going to be a standard place of power that’s only good for the one skill point (and for fusing Quartz and anything else that might use the fusing mechanic later) or if it will “refresh” itself each day and be a source of an extra skill point once per account per day. Could be a good way to get new characters to get some skill points aside from Scrolls of Knowledge.

I’m certain it’s one skill point per character only. Having it give out a skill point every day would trivialise skill points out in the open world. As you pointed out, Scrolls of Knowledge is the way to get skill points onto characters who need more. (Heck, I’ve got a stack of 150 of them sitting in my bank!)

I don’t think they’ve said one way or the other, but I would like to know the answer to this as well. If it’s just a one-time thing, that doesn’t really seem like much of a reward to me.

It’s most probably a 1-per character thing.

Its main purpose is probably letting people visit their own home instance, as currently the best home instance for a daily charged crystal is Hoelbrak.
They probably saw that mostpeople isited Hoealbrak, used the nodes there, then want to the Issomir place of power to charge quartz.

With a place of power in your home instance, players can go to the home instance they want instead, and so ore people would visit their own home isntances.

Still a way to go until it’s a really useful place, though.

Another reason why the Champ trains need to be hit with diminishing returns.

They must give champions node flags. “Harvest” 1-3 times and they no longer drop champion bags. Same with events and meta events that spawn champions. Remove the drops from the enemies, give them upon success for events, and at the end of the chain with meta-events (success or not), giving extra ones for those who participated in more successful events.

That way all the countless champions all over the would would be visited, instead people sticking to two areas. I can’t count how many times I’ve seen people killed by Bandits like Robbari or the Krait Witches because no one would go there to help when they call “Champion event” because there was nobody to listen. Because most people in the world map is endlessly looping around 4-6 champions in Queensdale or Frostgorge.

The zerg would just switch to giving a waypoint and starting in another area after they are done with one, but at least people who want to do group events in that other area would get help. And at the same time another zerg would spawn there as new people enter. Giving birth to several smaller zergs all over the world sweeping thrown many champions instead just two in two areas repeating the same champions again and again.

Probably a skill a point a day seen that If you don?t have the quartz node it would be pretty much useless.

Anet please consider giving a way to earn the instance nodes for the people that missed it. Thanks

I couldn’t agree more. Champs dropping better loot is a good thing, but ANet needs to encourage people to visit Champions all over the world, not just stay in one map farming a rotation of the same 6 – 8 Champions over and over. If Champions had diminishing returns so that, for example, the first two times you kill him, you get an Exotic loot bag, but after that it turns into a standard loot bag for the map’s level for another 2 – 3 kills, and after that it stops dropping loot at all, it would encourage people to move on to different maps.

There’s probably well over 100 Champions scattered across the open world, so I think that’s still plenty of Champ bags people can acquire if they’re dead set on farming Champs.

New characters have no need for other sources of skill points and unless they come up with some additional end game items that need them I don’ think many LVL 80s are short on skill points either. Redundant.
