So, where have they confirmed that Scarlet is behind it?
I would love to see that post, because based on what we currently know there is NOTHING that confirms Scarlet being involved.

And please don’t speak for others than yourself.

I second this. After being underwhelmed by her in the living story I checked out her wiki page to see if there was anything interesting about her. Just a character that went crazy just cause. Give me something interesting. Give me the mursaat, give me margonites, or better yet, give me a complex character for an antagonist and not just another “joker”.

I just saw on other threads that people discovered that it is Scarlet through datamining. I’m not certain, it’s just what I heard. /dissapointed

Datamining is not at all the same as a confirmation. However I would like to see those threads. Where did you see this?

Well Scarlet almost definitely plays some sort of role in this release for several reasons:

- She is the main villain of this Living Story arc. Most if not all of the non-holiday/SAB updates will be connected to her.
- Tower of Nightmares
- The videos voice is same person (I think) as the one for Twilight Arbor
- Can see a giant portal/dimensional rift above the tower

However, the krait being super xenophobic doesn’t mean that they can figure out a lore-compatible reason why they are listening to her.

For example, there is a giant mesmer viel covering the tower, likewise a mesmer could be influencing the krait leaders. Or Scarlet could simple make them an offer so inline with their goals even they couldn’t refuse.

Their goals are to kill all land dwelling creatures and hope that their prophet returns to sink the land under one giant ocean which they control… I don’t see how a “land dweller” could give them that…

It’s ok, at this point I’m used to disappointment. Sorry for setting my expectation bar too high.

I’m just wondering how they can kill her without actually bringing her back. They would at least need a final story arc to close off the Scarlet saga. If they don’t include Scarlet in a patch it just means she’ll appear in a later one.

I haven’t seen much discussion on the possibility that Scarlet will be involved, but in a different way. What if Scarlet is not allied or working with the Krait, but instead will be making a move on this new Tower of Nightmares. We could end up with a 3 way battle here between the newly empowered Krait, Scarlet and the Aetherblades, and us (in the forum of the Pact, Lionguard, Sylvari)

Consider that around the lake here in Kessex Hills there are multiple faction’s bases. We have a Sylvari Warden Outpost to the southwest, Lionguard Haven to the southeast, and the Seraph Fort Salma to the northwest. (also I guess you can count the centaurs and bandits, but I don’t see them having any interest in getting involved)

Also, what about Caithe? If Scarlet is really going to be involved in some way, I would assume that Caithe would have incentive to come investigate. (This isn’t too far away, after all, from Twilight Arbor dungeon)

Anet needs to build us a Walter White antagonist, not this Disney villian Scarlet.

Looks like we’ll need to get a Searing Cauldron to do some proper cleansing..

I don’t know man. If they released one of those backstories on the website titled How Scarlet Dies, most lore fans wouldn’t get past the third word before they jumped from pure joy.

I still wish they would’ve kept Kudu alive long enough to be what Scarlet is supposed to be…. as much as i love Scarlet he was much more awesome… God rest his tiny little soul…

That being said i’m not seeing anything Scarlety about this patch, if anything i see Faolin, or other Nightmare Court members, being involved in this, i mean they have tons of mesmery magic, which the krait seem to have lost over the 250 years since GW1 (as well as their frills), not to mention it’s called the tower of NIGHTMARE, and that there’s vines and stuff growing off of it which fits with Nightmare Court, and the Krait are using plant weapons and look like they’re glowing like those Husks in TA do…

If scarlet was directly behind this it’d be more steam punk, not to mention Scarlet doesn’t get anything from helping Krait, Nightmare Court do, they just wanna cause pain and agony and torment, what better way to do that than cause every land dweller to drown? They haven’t given a kitten about who they helped in the past, why start now?

I’d be fine with that, actually.

If she was just one random crazy with delusions of grandeur who’d managed to scrape together a following who crops up occasionally… that’d be one thing.

But ArenaNet seems to have decided that she can sustain the entire Guild Wars story from here on out and everything must be connected to Scarlet in some manner, and she just can’t sustain that, especially in a world that has such a rich background from which much deeper and more interesting stories can be made.

This becomes particularly bad when you consider that at the rate things are going, in a few years she’ll have united EVERY enemy faction under her banner, however little sense it makes. So much for evil not being monolithic…

Seriously? Scarlet? That is severely disappointing.

The woman in the trailer says “whispered promises…” which could very well be how Scarlet is luring the Krait into perhaps believing she’s the Prophet, she could perhaps appear to them in a different form – maybe a holographic Krait resembling a Krait Prophet – so even if the Krait are xenophobic, they might not be aware it’s her. And of course, the prophet comes with armies and weapons (Aetherblades + Nightmare Court and their twine-tech technology) so to them that prophecy is fulfilled well enough to buy in on the ruse.

Scarlet is like the female version of Trahearne. Everybody hates them yet they’re the ones who get all the attention. Sheesh.

It’s possible ANet left random files in the client as bait for data-miners, a red-herring of sorts.

Developers are smart like that, they can actually use data-mining against the community.

I remember a few years ago, Nexon had files in their game that suggested certain upcoming RNG-ish cash-shop items would produce in-game items that would lead to great profit/benefit; week of the event, people quickly realize the item wasn’t dropping the items as foretold by the data-mining and that they had been duped into invest loads of their money into a useless cash-shop item.
That’s the extreme side of the spectrum of course – Nothing quite that obvious ever occurred again.

Most data-mine bait is used to mislead players or tease players.

I am still waiting for that supposed data-mined proof that Scarlet is behind this.

Eh. Me too. But not because of Scarlet but because I thought they would finally start using some of their great lore from the original game for once. “Tower” and “Kessex Hills” – I seriously thought they’d do the Floating Wizard Tower that has been there since forever.

It just feels so random. No connection to the GW1 lore at all. Can we please go back to dragons or something?

First of all he said “majority” so he doesn’t claim to be speaking for all, obviously you Scarlet fangirls are not included. Secondly I assure you that there are enough players that hate Scarlet and just wanna see her wiped from Guild Wars 2 history and that they will never stop complaining as long as her story continues.

You can speak for me if you want OP. My only experience with the character is that she is a failure of an invader who has her forces invade but her definition of invade is spawn on a map and wait in place to be killed or for time* to run out. I played GW1 for years and would like to see some sort of continuation of it instead of muppet show characters.

*Why all the timers now? Are all these events now just time killers while the bosses wait for their other half to get ready before they go out to dinner or something?

Why do people keep moaning about how Krait working with others breaks the lore?

Who says they are joining forces by choice? Yes it may not be in their nature to ally with others but if you are being forced, manipulated or under some kind of spell/infection then you have no choice.

The Krait shown in the images are clearly not normal Krait, so they have obviously been corrupted with this Poison/Toxin, or whatever is going on.

Just because Scarlet is behind it, doesn’t mean she went to the Krait and said do you want to team up? and they said yes.

Well they may have said yes, but I’m more than positive it was either 1) a deal way too good to pass up 2) due to them being forced into it by a Mesmer or some other sort of trickery or 3) they had a small armies worth of guns pointed at their heads if they said no.

Actually the way things are presented in game it is a plausible interpretation. Since the writers don’t like to tie up any loose ends. Only for years latter for one of the writers to say: “yeah, your interpretation of what happened is completely off from what we intended it to mean.” However by then it’s too late and they have completely botched it up, and created a massive plot hole.

If Scarlet does “team” up with the krait, I doubt they are going to make any sensible reason to do so. I actually been hoping for awhile they would prove me wrong. Especially how she can motivate hostile racial factions like the Flame Legion, Dredge, Nightmare Court, and now possibly the Krait. I think the way the writers want to present it as she has unlimited knowledge, and she can use it as means of consulting leverage via temptations of power to these hostile factions. However this is never presented in game or outside the game. Only the vague interpretation of this is because of where Ceara traveled, before she reemerged as Scarlet Briar.

I think it’s funny because of their lore outside of the game like this before the game was really interesting even before the game shipped: Dream and Nightmare. This is what I thought their in game representation would be like; with some of their internal character conflict. No, instead we get nothing like this in game. The Cycle of Night section I found that really interesting to contrast the possible upcoming event. By the way Cadeyrn was the original founder of the Nightmare Court. The same person we kill in TA (story mode). Where we never learn how the roles reversed between him and Faolain.

I love how people seem to think that NC and the other hostile factions are above alliances, the Sinister Triad is kinda a big deal (NC, Inquest and Bandits), not to mention Bandits and mother kittening Centaurs have an alliance yet NO ONE has kittened about those 2 races who have completely hated the other and wanted mass genocide of the other for well over 250 years are in an alliance yet god forbid some of the dredge and flame legion teamed up…

Nightmare is nightmare court right? scarlet isn’t nightmare court. she’s on her own. The only credit I can lend is that the order of whispers does use a disguise to trick the krait into thinking it’s risen messing with them for one of the task hearts.

She probably knew the setback was coming, because even in the Scarlet Playhouse instance she was not trying very hard to kill us. She was merely toying with us, because in someway she got what she wanted. Attention, and the clockwork mechanisms she hijacked from festival. The problem is you can’t tell that she is actually doing this or not. Only vague interpretations of it.

Yeah, she is not apart of the nightmare court at all. However she was allowed by them to build in their Territory in Twilight Arbor. How did she make that deal is the real question.

Only this line in the short story: Twilight Preparations provides some clue:

“Though I can’t say why the Nightmare Court is,” Sparki added. “I’ll never comprehend how she got those poisonous peonies to let her have her way with this place.”

It’s not so much that their joining together is blasphemous in any way to the established lore. It’s the question of how is this deal being made. I understand it might be from an opportunist stand point. Where they can make great strides for their own fanatical ideologies. However it’s kept overly ambiguous in game on how these alliance deals are coming down. They never really go into any detail about it. It just happens. That’s where the real issue is.

Spot on! If scarlet (an outsider) has somehow managed to bend the Krait to her will then the Anet writers are basically giving GW1 lore the middle finger.

GW wiki – "These intelligent creatures are vicious and xenophobic, attacking and enslaving all other species on sight. "

“Krait are vicious creatures, completely uninterested in the needs or well-being of others. The krait have never felt threatened by any of the land or other sea-dwelling races. They believe other, lesser races have nothing to offer them, so the krait never bother to communicate with them.”

They wouldn’t stop to listen to the mad rhubarb, then actually do what she wants like all the other dumb races she’s bent to her will.

It’s not just GW1 lore. GW2 lore on the blog stated the EXACT SAME THING about the Krait. On top of that, unlike the dredge and flame legion who we’ve pushed to the edge of doing something desperate, the Krait have NO REASON to. We have done very little except take away their magical resistance to the Risen corruption, and you know what? After that we killed Zhaitan so new risen can’t be made anymore anyways. So we’ve done very little to “destroy their society” and “push them to the edge of desperation”, so what exactly can Scarlet hold over them that would make them drop EVERY SINGLE belief that they hold and ally with land dwellers.

I was just about to make a thread saying I had high hopes for this event until I saw Scarlet. So this event is nothing to look foward too other then to ruin another human area >.>

I don’t know nor do I care, my points still stand 100% because they do not relate to any specific event, just her. It will show Anet how much we hate her even if the info is wrong just because we hate her that much the mere thought makes us angry!

How many living stories have not had something to do with scarlet?
How many times have they said all the stories will tie together after the “big reveal” they think they are building up to?
If it isn’t a holiday = Scarlet did it.
