From the trailer, “It is more then a weapon.” This implies it is a weapon, not just a fortress of some kind. On the webpage it says,“A toxic seed has been sown. Guarded by magic, fed with evil, it grows.” This implies it is a biological weapon of some kind. From a distance the tower looks like a seeding bloom (0:43 in the video). Is the tower sending seeds out on the wind that infect where they land? (or the creatures that inhale them?)

The Krait in this update look different. They are icky and green. But according to the wiki, Krait have always had the ability to shapeshift. “When they come close to death they enter a frenzy which shape-shifts them to another form.” We never actually see this happen in-game.

An interesting fact: the lake around the tower is “Viathan Lake” as in “Leviathan;” the creature from mythology. The Leviathan is usually depicted as a giant sea-creature —kind of like Krait!

The webpage says: “The krait have been working tirelessly on a terror unlike anything seen before in Tyria.” I really hope this is true.

This game is not about out-DPSing you. It’s about out-flashing you.

The growth is in the shape of a thistle, which can sometimes be a weed. If you look closely at the weapons they are also thistles, and very similar to the Sylvari cultural Warden weapons.

I’m pretty sure the tower will spread the new condition ‘toxin’ which will probably have some sort of long lasting and accumulative effect, that means you’ll have to regularly use the new ‘anti-toxin spray’ skill to get rid of it.

As for their new form… It looks interesting! Can’t wait to find out more!

I suspect they are working with the Nightmare Court and that explains the thorns and thistles.

My Scarlet senses are tingling and it looks like they’ve done another “combine two different things to make them ‘better’” with the krait and sylvari magic.

It could also be Scarlet making her own Pale Tree

the silhouette of the tower looks nothing alike those, it certainly resembles a thistle a lot more than a smooth stone obelisk.

Thats exactly what I believe it is too, has OP pointed out
More then a weapon= it serves another purpose
A toxic seed has been sown= its creating some kinda lifeform
Guarded by magic= its vulnerable and need to be protected at all cost
fed with evil, it grows= it’s evil.

My theroy= scarlet’s science experiment also showed her where the cave is with the other pale tree seeds. Or she found that other tree’s location. and now the nightmare court is working with or for scarlet to do what they always wanted. Create their own tree and very likely a new blood thirsty sylvari race.

I like the idea, but personally I hope the it’s more about the Krait then Scarlett or the Nightmare court. As long they are a permanent threat though, and they do genuinely evil things, then I can live with whatever.

agree I’d be disappointed if all that destructions and the tower itself all suddenly disappeared and the land was back to its old self. I’d pretty much be WTF

They are not ‘icky’. They are bright. They are shining with nightmarish power. They are like shadows with a core of bright yellow power.

It’s like the lines nightmares (aatxes, shades and chaos beasts, Shadow Behemoth) have in their bodies, but brighter. More intense. More solid.

It looks to me they are either turning themselves into nightmares, or summoning nightmares that look like them, or imbuing themselves with shadow power, or bringing back some sort of lost ancestors who were in the shadow/nightmare realm and were affected by it or something like that, to fullfill their profecies about some ancient power of theirs destroying or enslaving all the other races and whatnot.

and if you think about it didn’t Scarlets clockwork creation also have the same kinda green glow.

Yes, it did. But within a wood and metal base.

These ‘nightmare kraits’ have a shadow black base. It’s not as if they got that greenish power in their flesh, but more as if their flesh got replaced with or turned into shadow, and the glow came from within the shadow.

In any case, I really hope it’s not scarlet again, or at least tha the krait do not know it. Nothing can explain krait collaborating with anything other than what they think it’s krait, as krait are too xenophobic for that. For then anything but krait is to be killed or enslaved.

They do in GW1.

And they didn’t transform into green ghosts.
